Wonderful experience on the tour! **Make sure you buy on their site before you get here... we did but they sold out for a lot of people! ** You take a mine cart into the middle of the mountain, and your tour guide will show you what they did in the past to get the copper out of the mine. It was a very unique tour as the others around Tombstone do not have this same type of experience. The only downfall I had was the extra information when it came to questions. Our tour guide seemed agitated even though he asked if others had questions and honestly didn't seem to know the answers more than what he was told to say. Other than that, well worth the tour and the money (also some cheap bottles of water in the store inside)
What a great adventure to learn about the mines. It was easy to find. Our tour guide Steve had amazing information to pass on. I'd recommend anyone in Bisbee to go see it.
We arrived and immediately used their restrooms found in the parking lot. I've taken this tour several times, but this one was probably my best yet. Parking has always been easy to come by. We checked in. They made sure we were all wearing closed toe shoes. If not, they give you a cover cover, not so attractive. We signed a waiver. We took a little time to browse their wall of minerals and their gift shop. Then we lined up and got ready to gear up. We were given a chit coin to attach to us, got a safety vest, and then a flashlight. They were mindful of those who could potentially have claustrophobia. We stopped slightly inside the mine to give those the option to leave. Joey and Steve were our guides. Joey answered every single question thrown out to him. The rail ride was fun and so were the stops. We had 40 people in the last group of the day. Thanks Queen Mine Tours.
Great experience! Our tour guide was amazing and very informative! Definitely some tight spaces in the mind, so if you don't like tight, dark spaces be ware of this tour! Overall great experience!
Did this tour when I went to visit Bisbee. I knew it would be fun, but I had a great time. David, our tour guide was simply an Encyclopedia Brittanica on everything about the mine. It was so interesting & he seemed to literally know everything about it. The little train ride was fun & the stops with Davids narration, coupled with the 9000 questions we all asked him made for such a great experience. If yiu are thinking abiut going, dont hesitate. You'll love the tour
Such a fun unique experience!! Before the tour begins you are given a hard hat, safety vest, and flashlight! Then you board a tram into the mine! Our tour guide was excellent! Extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions! Very reasonably priced and a cool outing to learn more about Arizona history!
A must when in Bisbee. Buy your tickets and book your time in advanced. Well worth it for the price. You get to tour some of the mine on a train, and you get to walk some of it too. Your tour guide will cover the history as well as the parts of the mine and its purpose. Very educational and interesting. We enjoyed this. They mined copper, silver, and gold here.
This old mine was operational from the 1880's until the 1970's and was responsible for the development of Bisbee. Today, you can tour it via a small train that takes you through the mine and makes several stops. You'll see a "stope," which is a hollowed out area of the mine, an explanation of how blasting worked, the old elevator system, mule carts, mine shafts and more. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. They also made safety a priority and if anyone lost a personal item they would retrieve it for you. It ran for about an hour and a half. This is an essential stop in Bisbee if you like history or sightseeing that's off the beaten path.
Had the best time touring the Queen Mine while visiting Bisbee! The booking/check in process was easy and efficient, and the staff were all very professional and kind. Have to give a special shout out to our guide, Neil! Having worked in the mine, he was able to share so much insight and history about the mines. It was so interesting to learn about the history and hear some of his stories from back in the day. I felt very safe the entire duration of the tour, and would recommend this as a fairly inexpensive attraction to do while in Bisbee!
This is a must tour if you're visiting Bisbee. The hour tour - traveling into the mine with multiple stops - and learning about the history of copper mining in Bisbee is well worth it, particularly considering the reasonable prices, $16 for adults and $8 for children.
This is one of the most popular attractions in Bisbee, and I can see why! Open seven days a week, The Queen Mine Tours allows you to ride a train inside the mountains of Bisbee and learn about how the miners conducted their work. The minimum age requirement to go on the tour is 6-years old, anybody younger than that will not be permitted. This attraction can be dangerous for young kids to explore with the dark atmosphere, tight spaces, & literal rock hard walls. Even some adults would feel claustrophobic & unsafe. Fortunately, the staff are aware of this and make it known that if anyone needs to leave the tour, they are welcomed to do so. My ticket was ordered online, and then when I approached the ticket booth to confirm my spot, I was given a consent form to sign and a blue metal tag to signify that I was in the blue group for that day. Someone will announce when your group is ready to board, and from there, they will hand you a vest, helmet and flashlight. What I didn't expect when entering the mines was that I would have to GET OFF of the train and walk around. I was under the impression that we'd be riding the whole tour, but I guess in hindsight, that doesn't make much sense (Imagine the aching in your legs from sitting so long!) The train ride goes on in the beginning of the tour, but then you'll be instructed to step off and roam with your tour guide to specific areas that they will teach you about. You're encouraged to ask many questions by your guide too. I'm all for learning new things, so this tour is fun for people who want to gain a better understanding of the town they're visiting (or you're just really into rocks). I also give bonus points for the tour guide getting the rest of the group to sing "Happy Birthday" to me when he found out it was my birthday. Being sung to by a group of strangers underground is more exciting than it sounds. I also got myself a sweater at their gift shop as a birthday gift. If you're interested in visiting Bisbee, then this MUST be on your to-do list. How can it not be? The mountains are right there, in your line of sight all day. Why not hitch a ride on The Queen Mine Tour and have a closer look? Just make sure not to wear open toe shoes or heels!
Didn't think it was going to be my type of thing but our guide, Neal, made it so interesting and fun. He was truly a well of knowledge.
We used our Arizona Adventure Bucket List card for Bisbee and it directed us to do the Underground Mine tour. So glad we did- our guide was a former mine worker so he had great insight. So much history and a really great time. We'd do it again for sure.

I think I could've really enjoyed this tour had it not been so over booked that I actually felt claustrophobic in some situations! They packed so many people in on a tour that if you're in the back you can't hear what the guide is saying and if you do have the chance to move forward to see what they were talking about you only had a second because the group was on the move. The little people mover they put you on is so loud and the wheels let out a high pitched squeal that makes your ears ring for a few minutes afterwards was nearly unbearable. They should really recommend hearing protection! If you want to get intimate with a stranger then I guess it would be a positive... My wife had to scoot so forward that she was as they say in the military "nut-to-butt"! with the person in front of her just so I could squeeze in. I even looked at other cars to see if I could simply ride separate from my wife and son, but they were all packed. I would love to give it a second try when not so crowded and management should really cut about 10 people from the max allowed (appeared to be about 30 or so of us). read more

Such a fun, historical experience! The tour guides are all former miners, Benny was awesome, funny and very educational. His stories were very interesting and gave insight into the miners who worked at this very location! Highly recommend this tour, it's worth the stop! read more

This is an incredibly interesting tour. If you enjoy history, or riding small trains, or journeys of an unusual type you will love this tour. We reserved in advance, but our tour was only 7 people since we were in the first ride of the day. It looks like the second tour was MUCH busier. So if you don't have a reservation, I recommend going early. Our tour guides were former miners, and they were informative and kind. Very willing to answer questions. I was surprised at how few children we saw (usually our train adventures are full of kids). Our 8 year old got a little bored on occasion, but it generally kept his attention and he definitely enjoyed it. It is COLD in the mine, granted it had just snowed when we visited, but it seems like it would be cold most days. Both my hubby and my son had feet so cold that they were going a bit numb. We are from SoCal, so we are definitely not accustomed to the cold other visitors may not be affected like we were. But I would strongly encourage jackets and long pants... brrrr. read more
Ever been underground? Ever been underground at 47 degrees Fahrenheit??? Well, this is the tour for you! I had such an amazing and fun experience going on this mine tour when I was out there for a running event with group of friends. =) You're dressed in hat, miner's headlamp and a yellow slicker...and be ready to head underground back in time. You're 1,500 below the ground to experience how mining was like back in the good o days. You get to learn about the techniques, the dangers, and the history of the Bisbee Mine. This mine is one of the greatest copper camps! Such wealth back then! I truly enjoyed the tour and getting to know the rich history of the mine and copper. It was freezy (47 degrees Fahrenheit!!!) but so much fun! Tour time (7 days a week!): 9 am, 10:30 am, noon, 2 pm, 3:30 pm Tour duration: 1 hr 15 min $13 Adults $5.50 for ages 4-12 Kids under 4 are FREE Definitely a place to check out if you're ever in Bisbee. =) Bisbee is a neat little town. Aside from the mine tour, there are places to dine, reasonable accomodations, art galleries, coffee hourses, book stores & speciality shops....and fun events throughout the year. read more
I did not think I would like this tour but I did. This was like a Disneyland ride but the big difference was, this was the real thing. How cool could it to be, to able to have the miners' experience. "The mines at Bisbee produced metals valued at $6.1 billion (at 1975 price) one of the largest production valuations of all the mining districts in the world. This staggering amount of wealth came from the estimated production of 8,032,352,000 lbs of copper, 2,871,786 ounces of gold, 77,162,986 ounces of silver, 304,627,600 lbs of lead and 371,945,900 lbs of zinc!" The reasons the mine was closed was due to the grade of the copper ore dropping from 25% in the 1880s to 4% in the 1960's. Then there was a strike in 1975. The miners were paid $17.50/ hour with healthcare and housing benefits at that time. $17.50/ hour equates to $36,000 a year. An average house price for 1975 was $39,500. Comparing to today's wages and housing cost, that salary was more than reasonable. Phelps Dodge could not make a profit at a higher wage rate and a declining ore grade . So the mine closed its doors in 1975. With so much wealth being produced at the Bisbee mines, not much of it has benefitted Bisbee. It is a quaint little town with historical charm and has seen better days in the past. read more

Amazing, Awesome, best thing ever. OMG this was the best tour I've been on my whole life. 1000 feet in the mine on an original miners car. Lots of history and a ton of fun. Bring a sweatshirt as it' gets really cold. Wish the tour kept going. read more

Wow, what an amazing tour that transports you back into the mining days of Bisbee, guided by an ex-miner that actually worked in the same mine over 40 years ago! It really doesn't get more authentic than that. The tour starts with everyone wearing hard hats straddle-seated on a little train. You go through a long dark tunnel that takes you back 100 years into the past... imagine hardworking young men working very long 10 hour days in the darkness - lit only by sparring candlelight - drilling holes, exploding dynamite - risking their lives to earn their American dream.... It was surreal to get a glimpse of the history... I highly recommend going on this tour if you are interested in American history and mining culture. The gift store has many cool minerals you can buy too! read more

My boyfriend and I had such a fun time on this tour! It was very interesting to learn about the history of Bisbee that we were so unfamiliar with. Our guide was great, he was super knowledgeable about the mines and very friendly. The perk of going in a COVID friendly smaller group was that the tour was a little more intimate and we were able to take a closer look at some of the stops than guests normally would. read more

On top of a hill next to visitor's center. Easy walking distance from downtown. Nice, toasty fire in the lobby to keep you warm while waiting for the tour to begin. Check in 30 minutes prior to tour. Wear something warm as the mine is cool, 50-52 degrees. Tour lasts an hour or so. Our tour guide Ken was great, he was full of good information and had a great sense of humor. A must see for visitors to southern Arizona. Bisbee has so much to offer, you can't do it justice in just one day. We'll return soon and stay at one of the local hotels so we can take advantage of everything we missed in our day trip. read more

Great tour, lead by Doug, who shared his personal wealth of knowledge on mining. Especially enjoyed the explanation of how to open a passage with dynamite. Well worth the time and price. read more
It will take your breath away. No really climbing those steps, so worth it thou. My parents in their 80's could I should not complain. Amazing I loved the steps up and each station of jesus death. The church is so touching and spiritual, we were the only ones there on a Thursday morning. I would like to visit durning Easter to get the entire feel and emotion. read more

In a word...humiliating. They first dress you up like a miner, heh. I have a silly sense of humor, so that part I didn't mind so much. But this is a requisite of the tour, and if you are too cool to don a yellow slicker and headlamp, this is probably not where you should blow your $13. Next they take you to an area where you have to scrabble around to straddle a tram seat. I was the last one out, and a la musical chairs there wasn't any seats left for me. Oh wait, there was! But NO one moved so I could get one. What? No one wanted to have me ridin' dirtay behind them? Visibly disgusted, my BF's mom relinquished her seat, as she has been on the tour before. But at that point, I didn't want to journey to the center of the earth with any of these a-holes. The tram is a little janky, and that is not as fun as it sounds when you have your body pressed up the back of a complete stranger--unless you are a perv. And although I was sort of interested in the content, I felt nothing but boredom. There are plenty of chances to get off and on the tram, so the BF, BF Brother, and I dominated musical chairs after the initial boarding incident, by leaving certain stages of the tour earlier than everyone, hopping on a car, and spreading way out, thus guaranteeing that karma had made certain that someone that didn't want to me squished by me earlier, was certainly uncomfortable now. I recommend doing this if you hate everybody too. I continued to be pretty bored throughout. I wished I was the lucky one smoking cigs in the parking lot, which is what the BF's mom ended up doing. I'd say, skip the tour unless you are with people under 21. For the 21 and over set, I'd highly recommend visiting one of the multiple saloons and having a local tell you about the mines over beers instead. read more

Love this mine tour. We've been on the tour three times and Bennie always does a great job. He used to work the mine so he knows what he's talking about and although he's been doing the tour for years it isn't stale. We do the mine tour every time we visit Bisbee. read more

My only disasppointment of this tour was the attendance by several children in the age range of 4-8 with parents that were oblivious to how much their brats were annoying everyone else on the tour. There was a very well behaved infant, and a couple pre-teens that were completely into the whole experience. I'm not opposed to kids going on tours like this, but I am disgusted by parents that let their kids run around, talking over the tour guide, whining, etc and just act like everyone else should have to put up with their crap. The tour itself isn't "exciting" as some of the people that are reviewing it obviously were expecting. This is an educational tour, not an amusement park ride. It is a revealing window into the daily life of a copper miner, the equipment they used, etc. If you want exciting, go to Disneyland and ride Big Thunder Mountain. God forbid you actually learn something from a tourist attraction. read more

This place is so awesome possum, I need to do this tour every time I am in Bisbee. I really love Bisbee and if you do too, or just want to know more about the history of the town, you definitely need to take this tour. Tickets are reasonably priced for the duration and quality of the tour, there is also a mini museum and gift shop inside to pick up souvenirs. The mini museum is very interesting in itself and is a must to see before you take the tour, ditto on the video. Everyone was so friendly, they put on most of your gear for you which includes: a hard hat, heavy rain slicker (you may get wet, but this doesn't happen very often), belt, and a light. You then load up on the trolley that takes you into the mine. For the love of all that is sweet, DO NOT go on this tour if you are very claustrophobic, are prone to severe anxiety attacks, or otherwise may need to exit in a hurry. The tour that I was on had a woman that freaked the hell out on the tour halfway into it. Once you are down there, it's pretty much a big hassle to get back out because they have to take you on the trolley back out of there, and it is a little bit of a ride. It is very dark of course so you will be using your lights most of the time, but there is some lighting at the designated stops. The tour guides are awesome, especially Benny. Tips: *You can take photos on the tour, so bring in those DSLR's. *Wear a sweater, people may ignore this but it's pretty cold down there. *Use the restroom before you start the tour, I believe the tour itself is about an hour. *Wear comfortable shoes like sneakers. There are tracks, dirt, and some uneven areas down there. High heels and wedges ARE NOT your friends here. read more

So fun!!! Do this!!! We had a blast. They do such a good job moving people through and educating about the history of the mine. You enter the mine on a slow moving rail car. Super exciting. One of the best things we did in Bisbee. read more
The Queen Mine Tour is an amazing opportunity to venture into a real mine. While the mine stopped operating in the 1970's, it appears just as it did. Ok, there are mannequins instead of miners. The train still works and transports everyone 1500 feet into the mine. There is equipment still there to see how mining worked, and what it would have been like. read more

One of the most fun activities in Bisbee, AZ! It's only $13 a person and lasts about an hour a half, going 1500 feet into the mine. Visitors board a "train" geared up with a hard hat, light and safety vest riding into the cool darkness with a tour guide. You learn about mining in Bisbee, tools utilized over time, and how life worked underground. The gift shop has some great souvenirs and it's a quick walk from Main street. Make sure you call ahead to reserve your spot! read more

Had an absolute blast learning about the old mining town of Bisbee! It was very educational and enjoyable. Especially thankful for Rochelle at the ticket counter who was very accommodating and lent me her long sleeve shirt, because it gets cold on the tour. Highly recommend! read more
