Solid business. I get my fix' here. In most situations, one has to deal with the "red tape" of any business. These guys won't BS you into spending more money than you should. They have "how to" videos on YouTube under "shiftless bastards" and they can flail out a tune-up in under a half hour. They'll also tell you how to save money. At any other bike shop, the salesmen don't even ride their own products. I saw the techs at other places in town (when I was still new to Springfield) walk in from the parking lot. QC staff RIDE in. Some of the bikes on display in there belong to some of the employees. Those fixies look nice, huh? They'll help you build one of your own! If you ask, "hey, what's the best one?" they'll tell you straight up. I can't tell you how many times I buy stupid things that are cheap but necessary that break because the salesman doesn't know what he's talking about or makes me buy the expensive crap. QC employees will show you what they carry when they ride, tool-wise. Even more so, you can go out on a ride with them! In downtown Springfield, the cruising around of bicycles is becoming an increasingly common and welcome sight. This small but bustling downtown area wouldn't be complete if it didn't have the obligatory cool bike shop. Queen City is definitely cool, as the dudes that work there are young, tatted, and hip. They are also extremely knowledgeable and eager to help you out... even if you have no money and a shitty bike. (No bike snobs here)!! Sidestory: I once had to develop instructions for a specific bike repair for a school project, and I went in for help. The guy working not only answered my questions, but he showed me how to make the repair and allowed me to photograph the process! I walked out with half of my assignment done, and no bill in hand. I have also frequented QC for standard repairs and parts even for my sub-par, barely hanging on machine ("blackie"). They never make me feel like a loser bringing in an eyesore amidst a sea of dreamboat cycles. They always get the work done quickly and are very up front about costs before they even begin. In a time before I found Queen City, I tried to go to another local shop for a repair and they told me it would be 2 weeks before they could even get to it. Luckily, I took my business to Queen City and they had my repair done in about 2 hours! Based on the service, the vibe, and the convenience of this place, I am definitely a fan! If there were a negative it would be that QC doesn't buy used bikes anymore... Evidently there have been some problems with people trying to sell stolen bikes... Even though it does suck for the less financially endowed patrons, I totally understand this policy. I guess I'll just have to save my pennies for that far off and distant dream machine! read more

This isn't just the best bike shop in Springfield, MO. This is absolutely one of the best bike shops in the nation. I've been in literally hundreds of bike shops over the years, and few if any are as cool, laid back and friendly as Queen City Cycles. There's no ego here, just awesome service and an obvious passion for what they do. I've seen them help out homeless folks just so they can get up and rolling again, and also sell $3,500 custom mountain bikes all in the same hour. Queen City has the best service in town. Period. They've done so much to keep my bicycle functioning. This includes ordering individual parts and incurring the shipping costs, as well as taking parts off their floor models. My family has bought 5 bikes from Queen City so far, and we've never had any problems. They keep all of our bikes working perfectly. Actually, of our 14 bicycles, only the ones that Queen City services are the ones that work 100% of the time. Additionally, the guys working there, as hipster as they can be sometimes, are really good people. I frequently see the owner fixing homeless peoples' bicycles for nothing in return. read more

My experience with Queen City Cycles was excellent. Great looking shop with lots of selection and friendly staff willing to help. They are one of the only Rocky Mountain dealers in the area, which is what initially brought me to the shop. I came in on Black Friday, and was able to get an incredible deal on a RM Thunderbolt, and out the door within 20 minutes. There were no frivolous attempts to up sell or pressure me into buying extra accessories. I'll definitely be back to QCC in the future. read more

I'm pretty knowledgable about bikes and take care of most of my maintenance myself as the need arises. But, every 5000 miles or so (about once per year), I take my bike into a bike shop to have a full tuneup performed, to get everything lubricated and adjusted properly all at once. Not having been in Springfield long enough to have allegiance to any particular local bike shop, I took my bike to Queen City Cycles for a tune-up, since their location was convenient. When I left with my bike, the adjustment was worse than it had ever been before. As soon as I got the bike home, I had to readjust my rear brake pads so that they made proper contact with the rim when fully engaged. One of the pads had even been adjusted to hit the rim at an angle so that only the edge of the pad contacted the rim. I had to reroute a brake cable that was replaced and misrouted during the tuneup. My chain had been left much looser than it should be on a singlespeed bike, so I had to tighten it. I also had to tighten my headset, which had been left dangerously loose. I contacted the owner about the poor service with a polite email. I didn't ask for or expect a refund; I simply thought he would be interested in knowing that a bike went out of his shop after a tuneup in much worse adjustment than when it came in. In his reply, Miles, the owner, told me about his shop's years of combined experience and how QCC stands behind their work. He also told me he performed the tuneup on my bike himself. He then basically told me I was out of luck and proceeded to justify the poor adjustment with claims about bicycle component adjustment that were contrary to some well respected sources, such as Park Tools and Sheldon Brown. Finally, he invited me, unnecessarily, to not ever bring my bike back to QCC. To put it mildly, I was shocked by the combination of arrogance, incompetence, and rudeness displayed by the owner of Queen City Cycles. It was by not, by any stretch of the imagination, an example of standing behind his shop's work. If you are more concerned about a shop's staff looking hip and trendy than being knowledgable about bikes, then QCC is the place for you. If you want your components adjusted improperly so they will wear out and require replacement prematurely, have your bike serviced at QCC. If you simply have too much money and hate your bike, give Queen City Cycles your business. On the other hand, if you like getting value for your dollar and prefer to have a competent bicycle mechanic work on your bike, avoid QCC and take your business elsewhere. There are at least four other bike shops in Springfield from which to choose. read more

I'm just now relearning to ride a bike, and I'm awful. Deeply awful. I know nothing. But, every time I go to this store, they treat me not like the moron I am, but like someone who deserves answers to her deeply stupid questions. It's a nice store, and it's run by people who unabashedly love what they do and are happy to discuss it with everyone, including those who are learning from scratch. Absolutely awful. I had a flat changed and an inner tube a full size too small was used; a 700x23-25c tube was put in my 700x28c tires by Zack, one of their mechanics. Zack also 'adjusted' my disc brakes, which resulted in them being much looser than before. This bike isn't exactly a Walmart-level beater; the quality of the parts were definitely not at fault. I only had to use the barrel adjuster and an allen key myself to fix it, but why should I pay them to make stupid mistakes that I have to fix myself? STAY AWAY, ZACK CANNOT FIX YOUR BIKE! read more
