We met a niece for a long lunch during the week. Comfortable and casual vibe, and a nice menu selection. Breakfast available, so one in our party went with that, and that was the right choice for the day we were there. My wife and I each got a salad - I got the California Chicken, and she got the Chicken Harvest Apple Salad. The menu says they are each spring mix lettuce, but there wasn't much spring in either of ours - pretty much iceberg with a touch of darker greens. The chicken was thin and tasted fine, but didn't have a lot of seasoning. The bread was good, and if the lettuce had been closer to what we thought we were getting it would have made a significant difference. We just chose poorly. The breakfast platter looked amazing, and we saw a couple of wraps and sandwiches pass by that looked really good. Service was very pleasant and efficient, and our food came out in good time. They cleared our table as well and even though it pretty much counter service, there was more service provided than you might expect. We will try again and just stick to the sandwiches or breakfast. I am not from the area and was looking for a place to work for the day. After purchasing a cup of coffee from another establishment (who did not have ideal seating), I visited Queen Beans and asked if I could bring my outside coffee in if I purchased breakfast there. The staff member assured me it was no problem at all, so I bought breakfast and worked for the day. The next day, I followed the same routine (since I actually really enjoyed the other places coffee and I was already told it was no problem if I bring in outside drinks). However this time, a different staff member informed me that outside beverages were not allowed, but said I could stay if I poured my coffee into one of their cups. I completely understood and complied without any issue. 30 minutes later, the owner approached my table in an aggressive manner and began berating me for not following their rules. Despite explaining that I had received information from two employees allowing me to stay, the manager continued to reprimand me, stating it was common sense not to bring outside drinks. While I always respect the rules of any establishment, the owners disrespectful tone and demeaning language were shockingly disgraceful. I would not recommend dining here if you expect courteous and professional ownership or management. read more

Last day in Iowa visiting husbands family before we head back home to Scottsdale AZ. Decided to try this place for breakfast (husband has not been here before) Husband had 2 eggs w/ hash browns and I had a bagel w/ ham. It was delicious. We sat outside as it was a bit warm indoors (we are from Arizona lol.. enjoying the cool county air) Staff was great and super friendly. read more

Every time we visit Carroll we have to get our Queen Beans fix. The food is always top notch and the staff are always happy to see us. We're there fairly irregularly but they seem to remember us from our last visit every time! Almost feels like we're stopping in to see family at this point! read more

Hooray! Carroll has a coffee shop! I'm not from around here any more, but it's great to see non-chain places open up. I stopped by here to do a little work and enjoy some coffee. Also got French toast, and admittedly was pretty good. read more

Ambiance is cool calm and relaxed. Love going in before work... Well if I get there in time. They close at 4:00pm, quite a few people the work night shift in town love getting a fresh cup of joe. But they are not able to make it to queen beans. Other than that the friendly staff and great freshly made food keeps us coming back for more. read more

Our food was not fresh...tasted like it came from freezer and warmed up in microwave. Coffee was great though!

We stopped yesterday morning for breakfast. They are still doing drive thru only, so we walked up and gave our order and then sat at the tables out front. Our coffees were good and so were the breakfast sandwiches. We will eat there again the next time we are in Carroll. read more

Very cute local coffee house & eatery. Fun ambience. I ordered Belgium Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. They were good, but not great. I think their prices are a bit high for the quality. But I still like supporting a local small biz. I'd go back, but order something else. read more

First time in Carroll and was looking for a coffee shop to work for a bit. The coffee shop appears to be a refurbished house which may explain the comfy atmosphere. This place reminds me of the cafe's when I was a kid; ladies bible study group meeting in the corner, three elderly couples enjoying coffee and each others company and good mix of other customers. The coffee was fine, atmosphere nice and choices of munchies impressive. This is a community hang out and fits what I have in mind a coffee shop should be. Thanks. read more

What a surprise discovery in a small Midwestern town in the middle of Iowa! I wanted an alternative to the "free" hotel breakfast and logged on to Yelp to find this incredible coffee shop. One of few visible restaurants in Carroll (i.e. easily found by visitors), Queen Bee provides a decent option for breakfast. I got the French toast with strawberries- the toast was fine, but the strawberries were not fresh. It meets its role as a small town haunt, not to be compared to a trendy city café. My dining companion did not have rave reviews for the coffee- again, no frills. The menu did boast a small variety of options for ordering. The cafe itself was cute with a nice patio for a morning bite. Overall, a relatively good option for the town. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars for its relative strength. read more
