We arrived at 11am on a Monday because that's when we thought they opened. They actually opened at 11:30am, so we were 2nd in line at 11am. Once 11:30am rolled around, the line was very long. It's an old house that was transformed into a restaurant. It's pretty big in there and they have an upstairs as well. It really feels like you're eating in a Caribbean home, from the colorful tablecloth to the things on the tables. The menu is on a board, and they have a Spanish and English version. They give you a cup of complimentary plantain soup which was amazing. We also ordered the fried cheese app which came with a delicious guava sauce. For mains, I had the fried pork with tostones and my husband had the mamposteado (corned beef, fried eggs, and rice). My husband cleaned his plate, while I took leftovers back to the hotel (which we actually ate later because it was that good). They were out of tres leches that day, so we had the coconut pudding for dessert. It was my first time trying coconut pudding and it did not disappoint! For drinks, we had the passionfruit sangria. When we left, there was a very long line outside. Despite the line, they did not rush us out. Definitely recommend and would go out of my way to come back next time I'm in PR.

Keepin' it a buck! Eating here is like eating the ultimate home-cooked Puerto Rican meal…read more Rating places in Puerto Rico is tough. There are so many spots that are authentic and incredible, but La Casita Blanca stands out in its own lane. It's gotten more popular and touristy over the years, but that's because they've stayed true to who they are. The authenticity here hasn't changed, and that's exactly why people keep coming. This is the kind of place where the menu brings you right back to your upbringing. You'll find dishes like corned beef, tostones con bacalao, and other classics that just hit differently. And the vibe? It feels like family. Someone who looks like your aunt might be cooking your food, your cousin might be serving it, and everyone treats you like you belong there. Food-wise, everything we had was fire. One of the people I was with is basically an "aguacateologist," and even he said it was one of the best he's ever had. That alone says a lot. Chuletas fried to a perfect golden crisp. The pollo fricasé (pollo guisado, if you know, you know) was on point and even came in a little pot that made it feel extra homey. Arroz con gandules? Off the hook!!!! And to top it all off, they had salsa playing in the background... which honestly had me sold the moment I walked in. Disclaimer/Warning; There will be a line!!! And if you're lucky enough to get a table, sit back and enjoy every second of it.

Unfortunately for my husband and I, we had a place to be and didn't plan on losing 3 hours of our day to Casaju. We were stuck at Casaju for so long, I got a sunburn... in the shade. I wish I was kidding. We waited about fifteen minutes for a table, and then were escorted by a very friendly manager to our table. The wait for service was proper Island time and was to be expected... but after the wait of almost TWO HOURS after ordering to get our food, Casaju put island time to shame. During our wait, my husband realized that he hadn't seen our waitress in quite some time. So long was our wait that I wondered if she went home and the restaurant forgot to make sure we got our ordered food. We didn't want to be those idiot Americans who complained about the Island time wait (we all have seen those reviews), so we sat and smiled and waited... and waited... and waited. Finally, our waitress reappeared and brought our food. At this point, I had gone beyond hungry, hangry, and then starving, and had now reached a full blown loss of appetite. Typically, when food is SO late to arrive, you would anticipate that it is freshly cooked due to a delayed kitchen trying to catch up... our plates were burning hot, like they had been sitting under a warmer for the last hour. Yikes. The ribs I ordered were very good, but pretty fatty and oddly missing the bones- my sour stomach could only handle three ribs before I had to tap out. The rice and beans that I ordered on the side were the worst I had in PR. Two wild dogs joined us on the patio, keeping us all company as we waited another thirty minutes for the check. We left running to the car, very sad to have lost the day to a mediocre meal... but I was even more sad to realize that I had been sitting in the shade for so long that the indirect Puerto Rican sun had burnt my entire body to a bright red crisp. This is a spot to skip.

We stayed at the condos a couple minutes away so we decided to give them a shot based on the good reviews. Our waitress gave us all the best suggestions on the menu. I ordered the monfongo y camerones (shrimp) with the cilantro sauce. It was so good i almost ordered it twice just to take the second order home. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want some amazing Puerto Rican food.

My partner and I…read moretraveled from New York to Puerto Rico to visit his family for Thanksgiving week, and we decided to take his parents, siblings, and nephew out for a nice pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We saw Kalizo , thought it looked upscale and promising, and chose it for what was supposed to be a special family night. Instead, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was disrespectful and careless. We were a party of six, and the host simply pointed to a section and told us to "sit over there" -- no greeting, no walk-through. He dropped the menus on the table and walked away. We sat for over 20 minutes with no one approaching us for drinks or orders. We had to stop multiple staff members just to ask, "Can we please get a waiter?" Each time we were told someone was coming, but no one did. When the waiter finally showed up, he acted rushed, uninterested, and dismissive. He kept telling us that several items we wanted were "not available," rushing us to pick something else. I ended up ordering something quick because I honestly didn't know if he'd ever come back. Meanwhile, there were only about three other tables occupied, and we noticed something very uncomfortable: The English-speaking white customers were getting A1 treatment -- constant refills, servers checking in on them, drinks delivered correctly, food synchronized -- everything. Our table, where we were mostly speaking Spanish with my partner's family, was basically ignored. Our drinks came out wrong. Refills took three or more requests. Food came out one plate at a time, so half the table was done eating before the rest of us even received our meals. My plate was missing the sides and sauces it came with. I had to physically get up and find someone to ask for them. At one point, after asking three times for a Sprite refill, I just stood up and went straight to someone and said, "Can you please just bring me a Sprite can, a to-go box, and the check?" because I had enough. The food itself? Not good. Definitely not worth the price. And the service? Terrible. A woman who worked there quietly apologized to us and said she saw everything happening, but she couldn't intervene because she wasn't a server. That says enough about the environment. Overall, it felt like we were treated differently simply because they assumed we were locals or because we were speaking Spanish. Meanwhile, the tables of English-speaking tourists got excellent service. What was supposed to be a nice family dinner turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place, especially if you're expecting fair service or celebrating something special.
