If you are look g for a dark, not well lit, quiet dingy brewery, this is your place! We prefer well lit with lots of life! It's in a basement and very dark. I will say we lived the beers we ordered , the bartender was cool and down to earth. They have lots of merch ranging from stickers to hats, hoodies, shirts and mugs! What a great stop for a flight of beer! First off this place is in an old building, down the stairs into a basement area.. but once you get down there it goes from exposed brick of an old building to a comfy living room atmosphere. We ordered up a flight of beer to try some different styles, and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Our bartender was great and a wealth of knowledge about the local area, restaurants old buildings and such.. All in all it was a great experience.. and we would return for more beer. read more

Great atmosphere and beer! Stopped in during an overnight stay, passing through Butte while traveling I-90. Had the opportunity to meet the owner/brewer, Chris. I used to enjoy this place until I had a really strange encounter with the owner. I was showing a friend a video on my phone and suddenly this guy walks over to the table and starts yelling at me, accusing me of causing a disturbance. I can understand asking politely if something is bothering you, but the only real disturbance that evening was this guy losing his mind over nothing. I haven't returned and I never recommend anyone be a patron at this place. Butte Brewing has a much better atmosphere sans a knee-high Napoleon with anger management issues. read more

This was one of the best brewery experiences I've ever had. Chuck has a great personal story and he has all the time in the world for his customers. And his beers are all excellent: such a great IPA (big, but also subtle, lots of layers) and his bock beer really stood out. I was just passing through Butte and staying one night, but I will go out of my way to visit there again to come back to Quarry Brewing. Truly a gem. read more

Quarry Brewing was high on my list of bars to visit when in Butte. Not easy to get to the actual bar, but once in, the owner, Chuck, will take great care of you. Terrific beers with plenty of lighter ones to accompany your mandatory IPAs, etc. Once you make it downstairs, the brewing equipment is on the left and 6-7 booths on the right. Some high top "tables" surround the support beams. There is also a door to the rear, but I'm not sure there is parking. Much easier to get in & out. The bar itself has a bright, lacquered wood top without much of a rail that rests over a corrugated steel bar face. No stools during COVID, but the railroad tie makes a quirky, fun footrest. The back bar is simple with the beer taps and the glasses of regulars. Opposite the bar are framed windows (really look like picture frames) that highlight the bar's rock bed. There is also a cabinet past the bar that holds various samples of, I assume, rock you can find in the local quarries. I wish Chuck and his wife the absolute best and hope they find riches in their quarry. read more

The Quarry has re-opened on August 2, 2024!! It is under new ownership, and there have been a few welcome changes made. The seating arrangements have improved, and they've got popcorn again. One thing that hasn't changed is the beer. They are using the same recipes as before! If you want a vibe of old Butte history, this is a good place to come. read more

Nice little brewery in Butte. It's the smaller, more laidback of the two in town which is typically my preference. The service is great and they are able to talk about beer. They've got a solid selection of rotating seasonals in addition to a few regular offerings. They also have mixes where the mix two different beers which is unique. Pretty good beer. read more

I'm a fan of beer. I track what I drink and I've sampled more than 3500 beers. I know, quit your bragging. But I want some credibility when I tell you that this is a wonderful brewery with fantastic quality and variety of beer. The brewer has spent 25 years mastering his craft and was a lovely conversationalist about his product. Less typical neo-industrial vibe (the norm in most breweries now) with great service. What is it with this town and deadly Eff you up stairs!? Quarry is another that to get to you have to navigate a scary set of stairs or get dropped off at the back door ( no parking at the alley door) After finally finishing my quest to get to the brewery I was a little disappointed in the variety of the beer and the service. She was... Stoic. Thier light beer is easy drinking and a 4.4, with thier heavy at 6.5. No big crafty beers here, but lightweights and Bud light drinkers rejoice. I recommend the open cab copper, it's a smooth Carmel and peppery light red that you can drink all day. I hear the live music is nice, it was a quiet place but hard core craft beer drinkers will be dissapointed. read more

I initially went in here not having looked ahead to see whether they served food. I decided to stay for a pint because I like trying as many different breweries as I can; even and especially the ones that don't serve food so they can focus on their craft. The ratings did not disappoint! Tried a sample, was a little to hoppy and bright for me; tried another sample and ended up getting a pint. I love going to breweries, and I don't like beer. I will get a cider or seltzer if there are any on the menu, otherwise I'll drink water and enjoy the atmosphere. Quarry is in a really nice location and the building and atmosphere is wonderful. Everything was great up until my interaction with the bartender/owner. He basically told me I had an attitude and talked too much. Now I will 100% own that I can have an attitude and do talk...a lot. But on this day I my attitude was 100% good because I had just come from Headframe Spirits and Pissser's Palace. And when the owner told me "that doesn't tell me anything" when I told him I don't like beer, and after trying to articulate to him what I didn't like about it, he looked at my husband and said "I'm just waiting for her to stop talking so I can say something", I'd had enough. He was rude, condescending, arrogant, and flat mean. It's unfortunate because everything else about this brewery was appealing to me. (And per my husband, who does like beer, none of the beer was good.) I would post zero stars if I could, but the building is worth at least one. We won't go back. read more

When craft brews grow up, they want to at least be related to the beers at Quarry. Yeah, these guys make a great brew that has not let me down in any way shape or form. There is a such a smooth flavor in every beer I have from them that I my mouth misses for the long periods of time I am away from Butte. Moreover, they have a great tasting room that really compliments the beauty that is Butte, America (it really is a big deal). Lastly their staff is nothing short of stellar. They make it their business to know the business of craft brew and it is quite obvious to me that they take the art and science of craft brew very seriously. These guys are a big deal in Butte. Ahh. So far another local fave of mine. Great beer! The IPAs are both delicious. Very light in comparison to the California IPAs that I'm used to. These ones are very refreshing and not overpowering with the hops. The service is very good! Extremely friendly :) This is walking distance of my house, so I'll be here often ;) read more

Walking down into Quarry Brewing was like walking into a really cool basement bar. It's not flashy and obnoxious, filled with neon signs and Coors Nascar flags, mainly because they don't sell that crap here, just good artisan beer. I'm in Butte a few times a year and this will make it into my normal rotation. The beers are all offshoots of your favorite beers but with their own little touches. The tender at the time was very knowledgeable and we talked about California and West Coast brewing as he showed us his selection. It's great to see their brewing equipment right next to the main drinking area. There's also a fairly large kids play area right at the bottom of the stairs. The varieties of beer on tap were pretty basic, but I'd rather have a beer here than a sports bar up the street any day. Their growler service seemed pretty solid two as we saw a few groups come in and replace their empty jugs with fresh new ones. Oh! and free popcorn. I will be back. read more

Stopped in from out of town and wanted to sample some of the beers. The brewery is located on the bottom floor of the building down a flight of stairs. We tried 10 beers (5 "favorites" and 5 seasonal/experimental) as well as two of their "mixes" (2-3 beers mixed together). The IPAs were heavy on caramel which is unfortunately not my preference. Their seasonal sour was good, and their darker beers were decent. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I might be biased because I'm a local, but I've traveled to a lot of breweries throughout the Northwest. The best thing about Quarry (besides the beer!) is the owners. Chuck is there most days and is more than happy to explain how he makes his beer and what makes it special. They've just moved, so make sure you go to the Broadway location. Sometimes they have live music and parties just for mug club members, or special events, so check their website. Your best bet is the sampler tray; awesome beer and a knowledgeable pourer who will explain it all. it's also really kid-friendly (and they have awesome root beer!) so don't worry about bringing children. Came from California on a road trip to see my family and stopped at this place. What an awesome vibe and good service. On top of the good beer, they serve complimentary popcorn, how cool is that! Stopped in a trip from Glacier NP back to Denver in Aug 2011. Cute brewery, incredibly knowledgeable bartender who served our delightful flight. I can't remember now which beer was my favorite, but we did like them enough to leave with two growlers. Owner said they had just bought a building and were going to build a bed n brew - one of my dreams. Hotel meets microbrewery - how very awesome! We will stop in and stay the night when we head through MT next time. read more

Great brewery in downtown Butte! They could use a bigger sign... we drove by the door a couple of times before locating it the first time we went. But we've been there 8 or 10 times now (moved to the area recently) and are quite pleased! Solid beer with a good variety of rotating flavors. Free popcorn & games if you want to relax awhile. Very friendly staff who will visit with you if it's not real busy. Wish it stayed open later & wish they had more food offerings (fries etc) but I hear there are laws about that.
