Some of the shoes needed new heels put on; others just needed the little heel protectors applied. They saved me so much money by being able to keep my favorite shoes instead of throwing them away. I have been coming to Gem shoe repair for decades. I feel really proud to support a wonderful family-owned, local small business. Clearly the word has gotten out about their good craftsmanship, and now everybody wants to go there. I had to wait a few weeks on my order, but they were totally upfront about that. They don't have all the same brands and household items you may find at one of the bigger mall based department stores, but they make up for it with friendly employees and a really good selection all at some really good prices. Layout is really crowded, they have so much stuff crammed in here you'll be turning side ways to navigate some of the aisles. Really good shoe selection with some brands you won't find at other department stores (good brands - as well as the other well known brands). Sign up for email alerts and you'll get 20% off one item coupons and things like that. Really good deal when you can stack that with the already good prices they have. Great location and great service. Highly recommend if you've never been to one of their locations.

Malls always bring in the younger crowd, too, as a hang out. I took 3 of my 4 kids with me and ended up at the "new" arcade. The A/C was bust so it was hot. The big departments stores here are JCPenney, Sears, Dillards, and Goody's. There's also American Eagle, Aeropostale, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Hallmark, Rue 21, Payless, Spencer's, Avon, Icing, Claire's, etc. Campus Spirit sells a lot of Alabama & Auburn items if you're into that. You can get a haircut at Mastercuts or Regis. Regis is more expensive and busier, but there's a reason for that. Moon Day Spa offers eyebrow threading & waxing for $10. You can also catch a movie at Amstar Cinemas, which is the only movie theater in the area. The food court doesn't offer a lot to choose from. Sbarros shut down recently. There's still a Chick-fil-A, Great American Cookies, Max Orient, and American Deli. I usually eat at American Deli, which has decent gyros & a really yummy peach punch.

I couldn't find one of those leather masks with the zipper mouths for my husband. It was a lot more than Spencer's but the select is better. I think the Hoover store is a little better.

Too much good stuff to list here. I purchased a summer weight yarn to knit a summer tank top. A free pattern is available and Pat's expert tips have given me a good start.
