One of the last honest, independently owned liquor stores in this part of Marin…read more I was on my way to a friend's BBQ in Kentfield and I didn't want to show up empty-handed (after all, my momma taught this boy some manners). Since I didn't want to pay premium price for booze at Woodland's Market (which makes Whole Foods seem cheap), I swung by Colonial Liquors on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. I hadn't been here in 15-20 years. There's plenty of easy/free parking right in front of the store. They had a vast selection of wines & spirits. I wound up purchasing a 750 ML bottle of New Amsterdam Vodka for just $12. Hard to beat that price! I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. The guy behind the counter was helpful and friendly. FYI, they also have a deli (which I can't speak to) and plenty of munchie options (chips, candy, etc.). All in all, this liquor store saved the day. Kentfield is lucky to have it.

I love that I can get taster size glasses at about $4 each so I can try a good variety. I love rice lagers so it was a plus the night I found Hanamachi there on tap and I took a can home to share. James and Alicia are always helpful with their suggestions to help those, like me, who have no clue but are learning, what I like. Now I know I also like Strata hops, like in the DDH Strata Salad. Onward to new learnings! Thanks for a great party!

I also loved how much natural light flowed into the store. But what I love to do most of all is look at all the art on the wine bottles, so cool! I found this rosé at a really good price ($12+ tax)! Some restaurants offer glasses at this price lolol. The checkout process was really fast and easy, I opted for the email receipt option (better for the environment). I would check out more of their selection another time- maybe after I finish my first bottle :)

Kermit Lynch's new Marin Country Mart outpost is a beautiful, boogie little addition to the North…read moreBay wine scene. The space feels old world and elegant, like a European wine shop. I read it's his first expansion beyond his Berkeley HQ in 50 years, a milestone for a man who helped define Bay Area wine tastes. Since 1972, Lynch championed wines with authenticity, character, and a sense of place, focusing on smaller European growers. His shop in Berkeley, considered one of the best wine shops in the U.S., has a particular bent towards Burgundies, Rhone reds, Loire Valley wines, Provencal roses, and small Italian wines, and that seems to be true here as well. One thing worth mentioning, my service experience in the Berkeley location has been a more friendly one. I wasn't greeted or acknowledged during my Marin visit. My love of AppleTV's Drops of God (well, definitely Season 1) has only added to the mystique of a place like this for me. I grabbed their brochure and the reverence for the artistry, history, and human stories behind smaller production wines stands out. This new shop feels extra fancy, but that's probably part of the charm. Despite appearances (and yes, many bottles are expensive) we found a few bottles at a lower ($13-$25) price point that encourages dabbling with new styles, without that cavernous, "left to your own devices" atmosphere at many of those corporate big box wine shops. Check it out!

Some folks in my group wanted fresh coffee, sodas and juices from the cold case, pre-packaged deli items, bbq from the grill, and to use the restroom. Don't let the size of this market fool you into believing they are a one trick pony. Besides groceries they have alot to offer. The bbq stand (outside near the back parking lot), plants, gifts, groceries, fresh seafood and meat counters, sandwich and deli counter, self serve hot prepared food bar, coffee and pastries bar, bar ( in the back patio facing the marina), and individual cold case drinks... and that is not everything. They have a backyard patio area and a small indoor seating area. During the summer, live music is held out in the patio. Everyone enjoyed the food items they purchased. Great offerings, prices (normal and comparable to simple places in the area), clean, organized, and beautiful simple decor and aesthetics. Plus they have the BBQ stand out front. It is open daily 11:39am-2pm. Serving up chicken (thigh $8.95, plate $18.95), Miller hot dog $8.95 and tri tip. I have yet to try the tri tip, but the chicken and hot dog are fantastic. Mmm. And I have to give a shout out to the houseplant selection. It caught the eye of some family members, so much so they bought a couple. Beautiful, healthy plants that cost nearly 40% less than the cheapest big box store in our hometown.
