    Three rows up from homeplate.
    Ian C.

Went here yesterday afternoon to see the Bandits get beat by the Kane County Cougars. Despite the loss, it was Irish Day at the park, and it was a blast. Food: It is typical ballpark food. Overpriced and overly greased (for the most part) but I highly recommend the Philly Steak stand. Great quality and quanity of food in your sandwich and one of the better places. Atmosphere: Typical minor league ball park with a great view of the bridge and the Mississippi. Searing is plentiful and it's great for kids as they have activities for them after every inning. Lots of giveaways and very friendly staff make it a lot of fun. Price: Almost unbeatable. For a ticket, three rows behind home plate... $15!!! Maybe that's the Chicagoan in me, but those prices are a steal for some minor league baseball. If I'm back in town and the Bandits are playing, I'll definately make an effort to go a d check it out!

The Rivermen are the AHL farm team for the NHL's St. Louis Blues and they play at the Peoria Civic Center. These games are community and family oriented. When you enter the center, there are activities for the kids (face painting, balloon animals and bouncy castles). Between periods, there are contests and more stuff for the kids. The concessions are pretty standard and the prices aren't exorbitant. Street parking isn't too bad and there are several parking garages in the area. Go Rivermen!

For $25 I received an on the glass seat for an exciting game against the Oklahoma City Barons. Best $25 I have ever spent! Multiple times players would smash into the glass a foot in front of me and nearly knock me out of my seat. The beer selections were good and cheap. I did notice that I was the only person in the arena without Rivermen gear. I immediately went to the pro shop for some apparel. $60 for an adult sweatshirt!? Holy cow. Luckily, I can fit into a child's size for $30. My only disappointment was the false representation by the mascot. The pictures show a tough ship captain after a long day on the river. Then, out skates a fluffy overweight bear? Why not change the team name to Peoria Overweight Bears? Does Peoria even have bears?

The games are really fast paced and entertaining, but we haven't yet seen a win. Tickets are relatively affordable and there's a good chance you could sit somewhere better if you sneak around lol. They get ya on the snacks though $$. Bathrooms are a little janky and you can expect a line. Standard good time sports outing for a winter evening in CR.

If you've never seen a hockey game, or you're just looking for something different to do, I highly recommend visiting. I've always loved that CR has been home to minor league sports teams for so many years. We're lucky. Uber family-friendly atmosphere. Roughriders ticket prices have increased by several $'s since my last review in 2014, but those extra dollars are worth it. I believe there are six different ticket price points now ($13-$25), and if you're really into hockey you may even consider season tickets. Roughriders season ticket holders are a hoot...I always seem to be seated next to them. :) From what I saw, staffing has definitely decreased over the years. I didn't notice any employees except for those scanning tickets, working in the concessions stands and those manning various booths along the concourse. Back in the day (10+ years) they used to have ushers that would help you find your seats. I don't know if these ushers were volunteers from the Roughriders booster group or if they were actually paid, but it was SO nice to have them there. Within the next 5 years or so the seating in the ice area might need to be evaluated (in the very least all seats could all use a deep clean). There is very little leg room and no cup holders. I saw many patrons using the seats as steps to get from one row to the next. Yikes. Talk about wear and tear. I also agree with another Yelper's statement (see Cedar Rapids Ice Arena reviews) that if you're paying for premium seats it would be nice to see the plexiglass cleaned more regularly. Also, the men I was with stated that the men's room near sections L & N was absolutely rank. After I heard this I opted not to use the ladies room. Concessions: stick with the cheese curds. They desperately need a new soft pretzel supplier. Bar: above average selection of beer, etc. available. Expect arena prices on all food and drink. Overall, 5/5 stars. You won't have perfection across the board given how many guests go through here on a nightly basis. Expect to spend at least $50-$100 per couple (dependent upon ticket prices, drinks/food). Parking is free! Recommend.

The team is quite good at home, too, boasting a 271-85 record between 1982 and 2007. If you can only go to one of the games, go to either the Illinois State game (the rivalry between those two schools is called the "War On 74"), any of the non-conference games against the top teams, or any post-season NIT or CBI games. Michigan State came this past year, and people were standing on their feet for most of the game, making a ton of noise. Even though we still lost (66-61), it was still fun. Butler (a top 25 team) is coming to Carver in the 2008-2009 season since we played there last year, and it should be loud during that game, too! Of course, the CBI games this year and the NIT games last year had very energized crowds. The only thing that makes this a 4-star and not a 5-star entertainment option are the crowd-quieting promotions that occur during the timeouts. Seriously, we don't need to see two people in the upper bowl get escorted to courtside seats, or see someone answering a trivia question for a $15 dry cleaning certificate during EVERY GAME. Granted, there have been worse promotions (including the Par-A-Dice dice throwing promotion, where people threw six big oversized dice on the court for a chance spell "B-R-A-V-E-S" and win prizes) and the basketball-related promotions are decent, but most of them are only there so Bradley can charge less money for the seats. The only promotion that actually got the crowd active was the longball competition, and that occurred during most of the women's basketball games and only one of the men's basketball games. P.S. I marked this under "Professional Sports Teams" because there is no option for "College/University Sports Teams".
