Discovery Preschool

Choosing a preschool for our son was challenging until we came across Discovery Preschool. The best…read moredecision we made. We had taken tours in different preschools but my son gravitated to Discovery as soon as we walked in. He felt so comfortable and knew right away this was the school for him. Since day 1 he enjoyed going to school every day and always talked about all the fun crafts he made. The teachers were always super nice and greeted you with a smile. My son was introduced to different types of foods that he really enjoyed that we didn't think he would like. One of the things that I think set aside from other preschools we toured was that they taught Spanish twice a week. He learned the days, weeks, months, and numbers in Spanish and started to practice his Spanish more at home. They also had a gymnastics coach come in twice a month and would do fun physical activities that my son would look forward to. My son would love it when the school sent out the monthly calendar news/event at the beginning of the month because he always wanted to know when Pajama Day would be or what silly outfit they would need to wear. One of the best things we loved was receiving his weekly worksheets and seeing the progress he was making. He learned how to write his name, count to 100, learn the shapes, learn the seasons, the days of the week, the months, sing positive songs, sight words, and much more. Discovery Preschool has helped my son so much that his Kindergarten teacher was AMAZED by how advanced he is with his curriculum. She explained the curriculum Kindergarten students are to know by now and by the end of the year. She expressed that my son already knows his capital letters, lowercase letters, consonant sounds, number recognition to 100, his math (addition), high-frequency sight words, shapes, writing his full name, and much more! We can't thank enough this school for nurturing, teaching, and helping my son become an amazing student and rocking Kindergarten from day 1. We appreciate the kindness, patience, support, and the love they provided my son. The impact they have made in his little time at this school will forever be everlasting and for that, we thank this school from the bottom of our hearts!!!

Highland Preschool - Our art area with giant chalkboard wall

We feel incredibly blessed to be part of the Highland family. We follow respectful parenting and…read moreare big believers in child led play based learning so Highland was the perfect fit for our family. And the teachers are what make Highland special. They are the most loving authentic human beings on the planet and they love all the children. Each of them treat each child with love and respect in every interaction. We couldn't be more thankful to their impact on our little loves lives. Our middle child entered shy and a little guarded and left transformed- confident and happy. She is now 6 and is thriving beyond our wildest imaginations at kindergarten. Our youngest is in his second year at Highland and he loves school so much so he doesn't want to be picked up until closing and when he is an adult he wants to teach at Highland. Thank you to all at Highland for loving, nurturing and supporting my kiddos so well! PS Highland staff is also diverse, and likely as a result, student population fairly diverse too, which is also of high value to our family. PPS Love that the kids spend so much time outside!

It was actually an old draft that had been sitting in my account. I realized I never posted before,…read moreso I went ahead and posted it now. I'm not carrying anything. All good here. Just thought I'd share my experience with others so they aren't surprised. I've had people ask me what I thought about Highland and I've told them, so it seemed fitting to make it public to warn people. Now you are making things up. No profanity was used. How did you even come up with that? You weren't there. Did she make that up or did you? And what disrespect are you talking about? Me being mad? Yes, I was mad, but there was no disrespect. Raising my voice a little out of frustration that I had just told the teacher about my kid's reflux, then less than an hour later I had to pick her up for what you even confirmed was spit up? I missed my deadline and had to rearrange my whole week because of that. You told me I could bring my kid back that same day once you confirmed that the teacher didn't even know what spit up is (yet she is watching 10+ kids all day long). But I refused because I had been called so many times to pick up my child in the past. My kid has since been at another preschool and I haven't been called a single time to pick her up. If anything, your school and the teacher had a clear disrespect of my time and my job on many occasions when you would call me and require me to pick up my kid for silly reasons. Can any other reviewers confirm that this has happened to them as well? I am sure there are some that would say so themselves. I totally understand what I committed to when registering. I didn't know that my kid would be sent home again, and after so many times, I just had enough. I asked for a refund of the deposit, but you refused despite the mistake on your staff's part. That's ok. I figured since that is the case, then an honest review is fair.

This was my daughter's first time in a school environment, and I was naturally a bit nervous. The teachers (Mrs. Marks and Mrs. Saldaña) took the time to walk me through what to expect and gave helpful guidance on how to navigate those first couple of weeks. They reassured me that the transition period was normal and they were absolutely right. With their support and encouragement, my daughter adjusted beautifully. By week three, she was excited, happy, and eager to go to school each day. The teachers are attentive, caring, and truly invested in the children. I really appreciate how they take the time to provide daily summaries at pickup, so I always know how my daughter's day went. It gives me so much peace of mind. The school also does a great job of keeping parents informed about upcoming events and activities, which helps us stay involved and better support our daughter's growth and development. Overall, I'm so grateful for the positive, nurturing environment they've created. It's clear they genuinely care about the children and their families.

The teachers are always there to discuss how her day went and responsive if I have a question on the chat to them during the day. She loves all the outdoor time and has been making and maintaining close friendships since she arrived. The school let me throw a foam party for the kids for my daughter's birthday. The teachers organised it, notified the parents, managed clean up. Simply because they knew the kids would love it. They accomodate my requests for her food and keep special treats seperate as I am specific about what she eats. The teachers do things weekly not just for $$ but because the kids will adore it. It's all so very fun and wonderful, growing caterpillars, learning about dinosaurs and the world, planting things and trying science experiments. The experiences kids should have. We love, love, love El Camino and as she is going to Kinder soon we are sad to have to leave. I trust the teachers completely and have a happy daughter coming home everyday. Can't recommend highly enough.
