I have not found anywhere cheaper to get a wax in Leeds that appears professional and clean. I visited it after a recommendation from a girlfriend who said it was easy to get an appointment quickly and she was right. Even during what I would imagine to be a busy period for beauty salons such as weekends over the Christmas party season, I was able to call up in the morning and be hair-free by the afternoon. A half leg only costs £9.50 and the most you will pay for a bikini wax is £18. There are plenty of other therapies that I haven't tried yet such as a Swedish body massage, tanning treatments and a few facial treatments that I am not familiar with like the 'bio-ultimate platinum non-surgical' facial. Maybe something I will let someone else try?!

I received a Skin Therapy voucher as part of my anniversary present…read more this looked very good; a full body massage and a facial; i was really looking forward to it. The mobile number provided went straight to voicemail but this wasn't a problem for me. I know that these companies often don't use receptionists but the therapists do ring back. Unfortunately not this time...... or the next time I left a message,......or the time after. The fourth time I rang I got one of those messages which tell you the number is unobtainable. Not to worry, I can always check it out on the internet! So I did and found a land line number. I rang it but it was engaged......several times a day....for three days. After that I got the message.... " the number you have rung is unobtainable" Ever an optimist, I was undaunted. Since I had to be in town today I thought I'd pop in and make an appointment. When I arrived I found four people sitting in a very attractive reception area and after a little while i was followed in by a young lady who turned out to be one of the therapists. I explained that I had a voucher and had been trying to contact them for some weeks to make an appointment. Her first assumption was that I wanted a refund; this struck me as odd since A) I'd talked of wanting to make an appointment B) I hadn't mentioned a refund C) Refunds come from the voucher company She also volunteered that the lack of response to my messages is because Skin Therapy only employs the therapists and has no reception staff. I know that this is common for beauty therapy services but other companies do manage to respond to voicemails. During this conversation therapist #2 arrived, overheard my part of the conversation and told me that there was a huge backlog of voicemails as the receptionist is on holiday. At this point it became clear that I couldn't have an appointment since the next available one is six weeks away and the voucher will have expired by then. I'm afraid that when #2 continued to expound on he subject of the absent receptionist I did laugh out loud. Perhaps I have warped sense of humour but there is something very comical about two people who expect to be believed while telling different stories to the same person. I may be jumping to conclusions here but I suspect that one or both of them might have been lying; the alternative is that either #1 isn't aware that they employ a receptionist or #2 isn't aware that they don't employ a receptionist. I suspect that the real explanation is that they don't check voicemails because they already have as much business as they can deal with. This is very nice for the company but then it is dishonest to offer vouchers under that situation. In short, I'm sure they are marvellous therapists and probably very nice girls but they really need a hand with their organisational and people skills. Not worth bothering with unless you can pay full price, make an appointment in person and want to wait six weeks for an appointment

My two housemates and I found an offer on Groupon for here - my housemate found one bad review and…read moredecided to go check the place out before buying anything... She came back and said she saw one of the staff having an argument with a customer and didn't like the look of the place (she's well accustomed to salons), so decided to leave it. My other housemate and I checked the place out (beauty salon newbies) and thought it was OK, so decided we'd give it a go. My advice, honestly - don't bother. While the beautician I've had is sweet, two in particular have absolutely NO bedside manner (which you definitely need when you're dealing with intimate areas - I'm having my bikini lasered). I was horrified when, on the day of my patch test, a man walked in and one of the staff called across the room (there were me and a couple of other women waitin - probably quite intimidating for a man wakling into a feminine environment) "You're 'avin' laser treatment, yeah?" Poor bloke. My housemate also heard one of the pair slagging off an 'awkward' customer outside her treatment curtain the other day. I was told my treatment would be a Hollywood, which means *everything* off (bikini line & front to back), but the beautician basically gave me a bikini laser - she was clearly too shy to get me to assume the positions that would allow her to give me the hollywood I thought I was getting. And I was too shy to ask. I also had to wait an HOUR to have my booked appointment today. After a 45 minute wait, I went into the treatment room, took my bottoms off and got up on the bed. The beautician went through what treatment I was having, but missed out my legs, so I just added to confirm, "And legs, yeah?" - she left the room for a minute, and then returned to ask me to put my bottoms on so that she could get the other two women in the waiting room done before me (they were bikini only). They did explain when I went in that they were running behind because there was a fire alarm not long before, but that they were only running 15 mins behind. Not a whole hr. ... But what made it worse was that last time, I'd had to wait 40 minuites (my appointment was 10:30am - the first or second of the day!!), and a few days ago, my housemate had to wait 45 minutes - and neither of those times did they at any point mention there was any delay. Honestly, this place is a stressful mess, and the staff aren't nice to deal with. Steer well clear.

I nipped in here one day as I was having a wander through town as I noticed that they offered spa and beauty treatments too. I went in only with the intention of picking up a few leaflets to take away and read but the lovely manager offered to show me the treatment spaces! We walked through their salon, which looks to be extremely well kept and high end, and wandered down the stairs into the area where the massages and such are held. As soon as you enter the space a wave of calm envelops you; everything is painted over in a deep chocolate, almost black, and there are dimly lit spot lights around to keep the space as relaxing as possible. There was an area sectioned off by these dangling chains/links which created a little separate sofa space. The lady explained to me that this is the relaxation area for after treatments - no one is rushed out after their appointment, and they're free to chill out in there with a tea or a coffee for as long as they like! Then she showed me one of the massage rooms. It was a little parlour of heaven! The room was also painted in the deep chocolates, but with little arrangements of candles and minimalistic decoration, all of which blended in to create a lovely space. I couldn't imagine anywhere being more blissful to receive a massage! I thanked her as we went back up and took away some leaflets to browse over. The prices seem to be a touch higher than I had hoped but in any case, I have my Mum coming to visit in a few weeks and I think this is definitely going to be on the 'to do' list! From hair cuts, dyes, re-stylings, beauty massages, facials, eyebrow shapings and much much more, Russell Eaton seems to be the high end beauty specialist of Leeds. A beautifully designed and decorated space, with lovely staff and a huge range of different services!

Oh and are we spoilt for choose in Leeds Russell Eaton though has become somewhere that I need to have more of in my life. Maybe it's because they use the quite simply divine Aveda products. I've always been a fan of Aveda, ever since it cropped up in Harvey Nichols and alas the salon went away a while ago. The products remain on sale there though and now you can have that experience in salon form once again. Cutting edge cuts if you so wish funky premises and stupidly cool staff (as always in top end salons). Yep it is quite like many a salon in that description and it isn't anything ground breaking or new. What it is is quality. That's what you want from a hair cut and that is what you'll get. Oh and it's heavy on the organic, nice!

Somehow I'd never actuallly been in here, and the promise of freshly made soup drew me in from the cold. As you enter you'll find an almost supermarket style presence, with freshly fridged produce, all manner of rice, pasta, nuts, dried fruit and a host of other healthy looking delights. When you reach the coconut you'll know about it, it smelled divine! It also maintains a country house kitchen vibe, as you move further back, with rustic wooden furniture arranged at the very back. Next to that you'll find the deli counter where all sorts of freshly made treats await you, from cakes to breads to this home made soup which enticed me in. The chap who served me was lovely, I was a little concerned about the cheese in it as I'm a blue cheese wimp, but he assured me it was no that strong. Though I only purchased a small cup to take put I couldn't finish it ad it was so filling! The cheese was still a touch overpowering, as I really am a total wimp for the strong flavours (I'd never venture to a vindaloo either, to give you some context on my tastebuds!) but I happily filled up on it before I was full. Although I didn't check out their beauty product range or spa upstairs I'm aware that they cater to those aspects too, making this sweet little store a one-stop-shop for most goods. Being a health-orientated store, the pricing reflects this in their range, but as they say you get what you pay for and the higher quality is evident. Nonetheless, it's certainly worth taking a nosy and checking it out for yourself!

As someone who works in the city centre, Millies has become a regular haunt at lunchtimes for it's great range of sandwiches and hot meals at the deli-counter down at the end of the shop. If it's sunny, sit outside. Raining? Seating inside too, where you can chat to the lovely staff. The cheeses and meats at the large deli counter in the middle are great too! Go for the Stinking Bishop if you like Brie and are brave ;) Before long, I was doing a fair bit of shopping here. Their fresh produce (as you walk in) is taste, really good value and as far as I know is all locally sourced, which is a huge plus for me! I've even ventured into the hand-mixed bags of cereals, dried friuts and general "I'm pretending this is healthy" snacks! Some things are a teensy but more than your average supermarket, but it's fresher, nicer and local! I've not used the beauty salon, but if you're into fitness and working out, the supplements upstairs are great value and the staff that I talked to know their stuff. Give it a shot, and if you do use the deli in the back, promise me this - go off the menu at least once. Pick a combination you want, rather than sticking to the (really great) stuff on the board. Sausage & chilli jam for me, please!
