I received a Skin Therapy voucher as part of my anniversary present. this looked very good; a full body massage and a facial; i was really looking forward to it. The mobile number provided went straight to voicemail but this wasn't a problem for me. I know that these companies often don't use receptionists but the therapists do ring back. Unfortunately not this time...... or the next time I left a message,......or the time after. The fourth time I rang I got one of those messages which tell you the number is unobtainable. Not to worry, I can always check it out on the internet! So I did and found a land line number. I rang it but it was engaged......several times a day....for three days. After that I got the message.... " the number you have rung is unobtainable" Ever an optimist, I was undaunted. Since I had to be in town today I thought I'd pop in and make an appointment. When I arrived I found four people sitting in a very attractive reception area and after a little while i was followed in by a young lady who turned out to be one of the therapists. I explained that I had a voucher and had been trying to contact them for some weeks to make an appointment. Her first assumption was that I wanted a refund; this struck me as odd since A) I'd talked of wanting to make an appointment B) I hadn't mentioned a refund C) Refunds come from the voucher company She also volunteered that the lack of response to my messages is because Skin Therapy only employs the therapists and has no reception staff. I know that this is common for beauty therapy services but other companies do manage to respond to voicemails. During this conversation therapist #2 arrived, overheard my part of the conversation and told me that there was a huge backlog of voicemails as the receptionist is on holiday. At this point it became clear that I couldn't have an appointment since the next available one is six weeks away and the voucher will have expired by then. I'm afraid that when #2 continued to expound on he subject of the absent receptionist I did laugh out loud. Perhaps I have warped sense of humour but there is something very comical about two people who expect to be believed while telling different stories to the same person. I may be jumping to conclusions here but I suspect that one or both of them might have been lying; the alternative is that either #1 isn't aware that they employ a receptionist or #2 isn't aware that they don't employ a receptionist. I suspect that the real explanation is that they don't check voicemails because they already have as much business as they can deal with. This is very nice for the company but then it is dishonest to offer vouchers under that situation. In short, I'm sure they are marvellous therapists and probably very nice girls but they really need a hand with their organisational and people skills. My two housemates and I found an offer on Groupon for here - my housemate found one bad review and decided to go check the place out before buying anything... She came back and said she saw one of the staff having an argument with a customer and didn't like the look of the place (she's well accustomed to salons), so decided to leave it. My other housemate and I checked the place out (beauty salon newbies) and thought it was OK, so decided we'd give it a go. My advice, honestly - don't bother. While the beautician I've had is sweet, two in particular have absolutely NO bedside manner (which you definitely need when you're dealing with intimate areas - I'm having my bikini lasered). I was horrified when, on the day of my patch test, a man walked in and one of the staff called across the room (there were me and a couple of other women waitin - probably quite intimidating for a man wakling into a feminine environment) "You're 'avin' laser treatment, yeah?" Poor bloke. My housemate also heard one of the pair slagging off an 'awkward' customer outside her treatment curtain the other day. I was told my treatment would be a Hollywood, which means *everything* off (bikini line & front to back), but the beautician basically gave me a bikini laser - she was clearly too shy to get me to assume the positions that would allow her to give me the hollywood I thought I was getting. And I was too shy to ask. I also had to wait an HOUR to have my booked appointment today. After a 45 minute wait, I went into the treatment room, took my bottoms off and got up on the bed. The beautician went through what treatment I was having, but missed out my legs, so I just added to confirm, "And legs, yeah?" - she left the room for a minute, and then returned to ask me to put my bottoms on so that she could get the other two women in the waiting room done before me (they were bikini only). They did explain when I went in that they were running behind because there was a fire alarm not long before, but that they were only running 15 mins behind. Not a whole hr. ... But what made it worse was that last time, I'd had to wait 40 minuites (my appointment was 10:30am - the first or second of the day!!), and a few days ago, my housemate had to wait 45 minutes - and neither of those times did they at any point mention there was any delay. Honestly, this place is a stressful mess, and the staff aren't nice to deal with. Steer well clear. read more

I was extremely disappointed with Skin Therapy. Having booked in for Shellac hands, I almost walked out when I was shown the extremely limited range of colours (9 in total). My treatment took place in the reception area, where I witnessed the manager (Paul) mistreating the women who work there, including saying things like "If I find out who has been unplugging the phone, I promise you they will no longer be working here." The atmosphere he creates in his salon is not conducive to helping clients feel good. The Lithuanian therapist was excellent at her job, despite being made to use a faulty lamp by the manager, who is obviously cutting corners to try to make money. read more

Wasn't going to post a negative review but seen that this place is back on Groupon so decided to warn others I had a groupon last summer for 4 treatments and I rang up to book and was booked in no issue for the day before my holiday When I arrived a very rude woman told me I was only booked in for half an hour so would have to pick 2 of the treatments to have done - the day before my holiday!!!! I told her this was unacceptable as I had listed the treatments over the phone and they booked the time slot The woman then more or less had a go at me and left me feeling very uncomfortable They then dragged a bed into the treatment room (it appeared they were sharing it) I was having a bikini wax in a room that leads directly into the waiting area and the corn exchange and staff kept opening the door, wandering in and out!! The woman was unprofessional throughout, swearing etc and was very common She missed half the hairs on my leg wax and I could of painted my nails better myself (after being given a choice of 3 colours) since when was a manicure just polish?! Overally it was a horrendous experience and one that has left me terrified of going anywhere new! read more

Went to this Salon in December 2013 - wouldn't go back. Had a OPI Manicure, well it was supposed to be a OPI Manicure but there was only about 3 OPI varnishes to chose from, the rest were a much cheaper brand. Beautian was very chatty & polite but seemed to concentrate more on talking rather then making sure my nails were done. When she finally finished, nails chipped straight away (didn't last an hour) :( All I can say is could of done better myself & will not be returning ever to the Salon. read more

Bought a Groupon voucher, great service, lovely job by a good therapist. Re booked for same again, hands and feet shellac plus a course of laser treatment. Confusion over the time for the hands and feet, i had it in my diary as an hour later. Missed the appointment after rushing into town, money not refunded and no offer of a replacement session. 2 emails, 2 phone calls later and still no response. I had to physically go in and ask for a refund for the laser treatment. Its a shame as some of the girls are lovely however the management is terrible. Would steer clear - they run the whole business from Groupon which means the staff are booked out solidly and there terms and conditions are completly unflexible. Some of the staff are downright rude. It appears that there is never a manager in the shop, only on the phone and the staff are scared to talk about anything without 'calling the manager' Better places to visit in Leeds with much better customer service and just as good deals. I went in for a shellac mani/pedi. The appointment system has some problems, my appointment was delayed and then when I arrived for the second time they didn't have the right details so I thought I was going to get turned away again! The woman who did my nails was really nice, I liked her a lot, but there were a couple of issues. Some of the other members of staff were a little abrasive. There are, as said by someone else, only a few colours to choose from. In the middle of my session one of the bulbs on the UV lamp popped and made a really bad plastic burning smell which doesn't look good! After 5 days one of my nails on that hand has started to lift, so I think maybe because of the wait after the light breaking it messed up the application. I only really gave two stars because I liked my therapist. (the same Lithuanian woman mentioned by another reviewer). read more

Tuesday 24/2/15 phone call to say machine mended. Appt booked for following day. arrived to be told this was my last appointment which was incorrect. Told I was wrong it was definitely my last appointment and I had signed to confirm???? turned out it wasn't me at all she was looking at someone else's card. Correct card retrieved to be told I had booked 3 appts. No I had booked 6 via groupon but because I had already had a groupon I had to book directly and they would match groupon offer. Receptionist rang Paul (manager) on his mobile to ask if he would honour agreement but apparently he was driving and asked the girl to text him instead???? The return text said no he would not honour the agreement. I asked to speak to manager but that was not possible, he was driving. I asked for my money back which was duly refunded and I left never to return ever again. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS FAKE OFFER! I have received a voucher for a Full Body Massage and although was a bit shy, was very excited for the upcoming pamper. I tried to call SKin theraphy Leeds ten times leaving the messages at various times of day, still hoping someone will call me back.. How naive I was.. I thought they must be very busy that they do not have time to call me - a simple customer - back. So I googled the place and went there by myself. Was initially impressed by the location - having a massage done at Corn Exchange - what a good idea! When I entered the studio, the girl sitting at the chair was eating the sandwich, reading the newspaper. It was quiet, no one else coming in/out, no busy atmosphere of a professional studio. She did not greet me either. I apologized for disturbing but the girl show very little interest. When I kindly explained why I came she briefly said that there is no receptionist. When I asked if I could make an appointment she just looked at her screen (which I could not see) and said that the system is currently down. She told me to go back home and book appointment online rather using the phone. And that's it for customer service. She did not show any sympathy, was not helpful, I felt like I disturbed her sandwich and this is why she was so upset. There was no sorry, no advice, no help. I still had a hope though.. I was trying to arrange an appointment via their website but every time after I finally managed to find an empty slot in their calendar (in 3 months time!!!) and clicked book now the system... went silent... No response, just buffering. Now, bear in mind I have an unlimited a fibre speed wifi and a very fast router and never have wifi issues. Until trying skin therapy web booking system. Webiste was nor responding at all. I was trying various times a day/night, including 4 am to avoid traffic and leaving my computer on all night to allow sufficient time - but it was the same all the time. Until my voucher has expired. And that's it for my One Hour Full Body Massage. I did not enjoyed it at all. Please go somewhere else so you can enjoy your pampering and not waste time, money, energy and trust in business... Went there for an hour body massage, the treatment "room" is actually a large room separated by curtains, so not a huge amount of privacy. This didn't really bother me. What DID bother me was that because there were other customers having treatments, one lady was being waxed and yapping the whole time, so my "relaxing massage" was not relaxing at all. Waxing there is fine, but if you want a relaxing treatment, don't go there! Also, I got there on time, was waiting patiently to book in whilst the receptionist dealt with a client in front of me. It was taking a while. Then when it was my turn, she had the audacity to tell me I was 5min late, shocked, I explained that I was here on time, and had been waiting my turn. NEVER AGAIN!! On arrival I was greeted by a dirty, grubby, un hoovered salon waiting room with several unhappy/ moody looking receptionists/therapists sat behind the old, broken and dirty counter - on their Phones may I add. The treatment room I was taken in to was no better, again dirty with grubby marks everywhere and what looked like cigarette burn holes in the lino that was bubbling away from the floor, plus exposed wires hanging out of the walls and ceiling. The treatment I paid for was a brazillian & leg wax from Groupon for £17... What a waste of money!!! Even though the girl who did my treatment was nice and chatty, knowledgeable about treatments and made me feel very comfortable, the waxing itself was messy, I have wax everywhere and was only given a Aloe Vera lotion to remove the excess wax and sooth my skin, not what you want when you have an afternoon left in the office and your legs are sticking together at the top!!! Also to make things worse the treatment room I was in opened straight out in to the waiting room, I was asked to take my kit off, knock on the door and sit on the bed - but was given no towel, paper or pants to cover my dignity to the full room of other customers staring in(Embarrassing). The Brazillian was self painful as expected but what I didn't expect was the wax strips sticking to parts that shouldn't be waxed due to the messyness of the wax everywhere. Then after I questioned why there was still hair in places it shouldn't have been after a wax, I was told it was because the hair was too short - It wasn't too short at all - I am now having to go home and shave anyway due to the worse wax of my life! Oh and to top things off as I left the treatment room the door handle came off in my hand. I left feeling robbed of my money and hugely disappointed with the result!! I will never scrimp on waxing and always pay a good quality salon more money to do a much better job. read more

I booked an appointment with Skin Therapy over a year ago and have finally decided to post a review only because I am reminded by the scars. Quite literally. I booked a Brazilian during the summer, and little did I know that the Corn Exchange does not have air conditioning in the building for 'historical preservation' reasons. I can understand that- it's city mandated. However, why should that mean you do not have fans, and that you leave your customers sweating in a stale room during a fairly intimate beauty procedure? The appointment involved full leg waxing and a Brazilian-style waxing. My "full leg wax" was cut short, stopping at half my thigh because, "that is only what's covered in a FULL LEG WAX"? I asked the esthetician if she would be able to remove the rest of it, since I wanted to have all of it done, and while she contested that it was not typical procedure, but did it anyway, again stopping far before my legs were completed. The most egregious issue of the whole visit was the pain, discomfort, and damage left to my skin. The esthetician (and company, I assume) are using soft wax for Brazilians, which means a much higher chance of burning, skin lifting, pain, and scarring. During the entire waxing, I was cringing repeatedly, wondering why my skin was so unusually sensitive, I figured it must have been the heat and my fatigue commingling. I told the esthetician, who was very nice and conversed with me the entire time, about this really unusual pain saying, "I don't know why it hurts so much, sorry if I am making a fuss." Instead of seeing directly in front of her that my skin is being lifted and that it is doing clear damage to my bikini area, she brushes it off. Upon leaving, my bikini area was extremely sensitive and stinging for the next 20 minutes until I returned home. Then, after changing, I see the astoundingly awful sight of my skin enflamed, bright red, and (sorry to be graphic) lymph covering the area, as the skin was trying to heal the broken areas. I had made a follow-up waxing appointment at the end of this visit, buying into their promotion for a waxing deal. The next day after this experience, I called in and cancelled, asking if I could get a refund. They paid me back for the follow-up appointment by the next week, but nothing can really change how upsetting this experience was for me. read more

I live in Bingley, Bradford and so the train ride to Leeds was quite expensive, just to make an appointment! I went to the business address, which was empty, no-one on reception, no-one to talk to. I waited 25 minutes for a beautician to finish a massage and then double up as a receptionist. She neither knew I had an Groupon voucher nor did she ask for the number when I finally booked an appointment! I explained that I had a voucher and had been trying to contact them for some weeks to make an appointment. Her first assumption was that I wanted payment for the voucher, as if she was quite used to the act! She also volunteered that the lack of response to my messages is because Skin Therapy only employs the therapists and has no reception staff. The train cost £4.80 because they didn't have someone to answer the phone and had to go in person. While I was there I booked the next appointment. Got a call to say that another therapist had called in sick and they were "spreading the work" and if I kept the appointment it would be for 45 minutes instead of an hour. I went because I had booked the afternoon of workf. While I was there I booked the third, and final appointment for 11am. On the morning of the appointment, and whilst driving to the train station for the appointment, I received 3 calls from them. No voicemail was left as to why they rang. When I reached a place to return the call, 3 times, no-one answered. I left a message saying I had received 3 calls with no explanation and wondered if it was still ok to come through to Leeds for the appointment. No reply. No-one answered so I didnt go for the train. At 12.30 I received a call from someone who couldn't speak English very well and she basically said that I hadn't turned up for my appointment and so that was it, no more treatment. We argued, I tried to explain what had happened. She didn't understand. Eventually, I received a call from someone who could speak English who explained that the boss would see a missed appointment and wouldn't allow the booking to go ahead. She explained that there was no receptionist, therapists take calls in between sessions but if they are not there when someone rings then the call gets missed. I asked for the owners name and email. I emailed him, complaining about what had happened. I have not heard back from him, and Im not interested in going back there. My present cost £69 for 3 sessions. I had 1 full session and a 3/4 session. It should have been a relaxing birthday presented. A complete waste of money. I feel sad that my daughter paid that for my 40th and I didn't receive it. Don't waste your money. The man that owns it doesn't care about the experience your looking forward to, hes just interested in the money it brings! read more

I checked availability for shellac appointments before purchasing my groupon and there were quite a few late afternoons and weekends free within the next three weeks. I bought my Groupon and booked a slot that was available for the next night at 5.45pm. Next morning I received a text advising therapist had called in sick and inviting me to reshedule - fair enough. Booked just before midnight on the wednesday, got cancellation around 8am next morning, tried to reschedule by 10am and there were next to no appointments available left for March and no late afternoons or weekends until April. I failed to understand how almost all the appointments for a month can go in a few hours but they supposedly did. Ive just responded to a feed back request - same as this one. Owner has just responded (obviously for the benefit of the wider audience) patronisingly sfating the the time I wanted was popular and went first. What time was that then? Any late afternoon or weekend appointment between last Thursday and April would have been fine. 10 night time hrs before there had been loads. I will say once again, and someone elses review here also confirms, your treatment of customers lacks integrity. read more
