I was feeling a bit lost and lonely in town the other day, mostly since I was feeling hungry, and found myself exiting the Grand Arcade and passing by Millies. Somehow I'd never actuallly been in here, and the promise of freshly made soup drew me in from the cold. As you enter you'll find an almost supermarket style presence, with freshly fridged produce, all manner of rice, pasta, nuts, dried fruit and a host of other healthy looking delights. When you reach the coconut you'll know about it, it smelled divine! It also maintains a country house kitchen vibe, as you move further back, with rustic wooden furniture arranged at the very back. Next to that you'll find the deli counter where all sorts of freshly made treats await you, from cakes to breads to this home made soup which enticed me in. The chap who served me was lovely, I was a little concerned about the cheese in it as I'm a blue cheese wimp, but he assured me it was no that strong. Though I only purchased a small cup to take put I couldn't finish it ad it was so filling! The cheese was still a touch overpowering, as I really am a total wimp for the strong flavours (I'd never venture to a vindaloo either, to give you some context on my tastebuds!) but I happily filled up on it before I was full. Although I didn't check out their beauty product range or spa upstairs I'm aware that they cater to those aspects too, making this sweet little store a one-stop-shop for most goods. Being a health-orientated store, the pricing reflects this in their range, but as they say you get what you pay for and the higher quality is evident. Until the middle of last year, I'd only walked past Millies and never actually noticed it, despite the multitudes of chalkboards outside - I didn't realise I was just walking past a genuinely good shop. As someone who works in the city centre, Millies has become a regular haunt at lunchtimes for it's great range of sandwiches and hot meals at the deli-counter down at the end of the shop. If it's sunny, sit outside. Raining? Seating inside too, where you can chat to the lovely staff. The cheeses and meats at the large deli counter in the middle are great too! Go for the Stinking Bishop if you like Brie and are brave ;) Before long, I was doing a fair bit of shopping here. Their fresh produce (as you walk in) is taste, really good value and as far as I know is all locally sourced, which is a huge plus for me! I've even ventured into the hand-mixed bags of cereals, dried friuts and general "I'm pretending this is healthy" snacks! Some things are a teensy but more than your average supermarket, but it's fresher, nicer and local! I've not used the beauty salon, but if you're into fitness and working out, the supplements upstairs are great value and the staff that I talked to know their stuff. Give it a shot, and if you do use the deli in the back, promise me this - go off the menu at least once. Pick a combination you want, rather than sticking to the (really great) stuff on the board. I wouldn't say I'm an expert when it comes to cheese, but thanks to my Yelp connections I now know where to go: Millies. Excellent customer service, staff took time and advised me on various selections of cheese and what was on special offer also. Cost wise per 100g wasn't cheap but due to the expertise and specifics involved, it was worth it. In closing, just go and purchase some of the red devil Now! God Bless you Millies. read more

Millies, What can I say? This health food and sports nutrition shop, with deli and cafe with undeniably the best cheese counter in Leeds (the latter of major importance if you're Swiss!), is amazing. The cherry on op of all of this? Their upstairs beauty room! I have been visiting their beauticians since recommendation a few years ago and have never looked back. I'm not one to write reviews, but I figure this hero of a beauty salon deserves some well earned credit. Booked in every 5 weeks for waxing, (the best wax i've ever had) I often find myself staying for more treatments, if there is available appointments of course. It is the perfect place to unwind after a stressful week. Last week I booked myself in for a much needed facial, after the grime and stress of London finally took its toll on my skin. I went in with a face pebble-dashed with blemishes and after a consultation with the lovely Emily and a prescription facial, I came out feeling like a new person, (after as well of course, an impromptu back massage which also did not fail to impress.) To say that my facial was a success is an understatement! A stickler for the perfect brows, I know exactly what I want, and unlike any of beauticians I have visited in the past, these girls really listen to me. Never again will I face the disaster of brows I'm not happy with. Staffed by people that really know what their talking about and are passionate about providing excellent customer service, this all encompassing healthy lifestyle store is not to be missed! As a fan of healthy food and exercise I was very happy when Millie's Fresh and Organic opened in the city center. It makes a brilliant change from the mass of takeaways opening absolutely everywhere in Leeds! In both my eyes, and Millies, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind and not many businesses offer the tools to follow this moral. Nevertheless Millies does, offering not only organic food but food supplements, vitamins, yoga/meditation tools,yoga studio, organic toiletries and make up!! The decor is minimalist using plain earthy colors to create a natural atmosphere. The staff here are very friendly and overly willing to help with any queries about what products are and how they would positively effect the body! The only disadvantage is the prices. Due to the nature of the products (get the pun...?) prices are elevated higher than those chain supermarkets can offer. I believe the extra pennies are worth it to know where your food has come from and for the value of fresh produce. If you agree with me pop in next time you are in the city centre! You will love it i'm sure. If anything, it makes a nice change from the chaos ASDA has to offer. read more

Millies is the shop I make a beeline for when I am looking for natural/organic skincare products. My first visit was in search of sun cream made by 'Green People' which I had been reliably informed would help alleviate heat rash. After trekking around Leeds, Millies came to the rescue and provided just what I wanted. I picked up some extra skincare recommendations from the staff while I was there which also a big plus. My next visit came when I was in search of products made by 'Barefoot Botanicals' which are recommended for eczema sufferers. This time, I headed straight to Millies and was not disapointed as the entire range was there. Product bought, time saved, happy Duncan! I haven't tried the cheese yet, although this looks like a good bet for a future visit - lots of options, many of them local. read more

What a terrible experience! I visited here around a year ago and the manicurist caught my cuticle and it bled badly. I wasn't happy and vowed to not return. Fast forward a year, and my Mum told me she'd booked herself in for a manicure and pedicure. I went with her to see if anything had changed. The therapist was lovely and the treatments went well, until Mum realised that her nails had already chipped. The therapist fixed this and carried on with her pedicure. When it came time to pay we were in for a big shock. Mum had been charged more than she originally was quoted (£10 more) The response when we challenged this was "that's the price" I asked for a manager and was told he wasn't in they day. We paid, and I asked that my details be passed to the manager to call me. We went on to have lunch and during this Mum's nails began to chip and crack. She was going away the next day, so ended up going to another salon to get these fixed. I had to chase up the manager for a response. Finally getting hold of him I was told he'd look into it and call me back. I waited a week. I had to call again. I was met with a disinterested staff member. I told her if I didn't hear from someone within 24hrs I would take to social media. I received a call from someone who told me she could sort my issue and would refund me money for a poor manicure. I explained I wanted this refunded as well as the extra we'd been charged for a pedicure. She had to get approval from her boss and we went back and forth on the phone. The last thing I heard from them was over a week ago when I was promised "a call back in literally 5 minutes" I think it's really poor of a company to treat its customers this way. The customer service is shocking. None of the girls in the shop seemed to care about our concerns and at least two of the girls walked off laughing. I'd recently been diagnosed with Bells Palsy and the look one of these young girls gave me as my face was dropping was disgusting. It's no wonder they find this service acceptable if the management can't even honour their own promises. Really disappointed. The shop has such good promise. I thought I'd found a great place to bring my friends for a pamper session. Turns out I haven't. I don't like to write negative reviews, but when a company has had every chance of fixing their mistakes, and still don't come good, I have no choice. read more

I went into Millies for an appointment for a mani pedi and what a surprise I was in for when I realized I it was tucked away in a health food store. It's up the stairs in the back behind some faux velvet rope (is that suppose to make me ignore the fact that this is a storage room?). It starts with a tale of woe as I arrived 11 minutes late, I know this because my pedicurist (is that word??) felt the need to let me know several times. WhenI tried explaining that I tried calling to a busy line over and over, she then let me know they were very busy (even though I only saw 3 customers there the whole 40 minutes I was there) and that they wanted to be there, unlike me. Being a foreigner in a foreign country I have been giving myself lots of time to arrive at places, however on this day there was construction work blocking an entire street so I had to find a detour. I was instantly put off by the looks of the setup, it seriously looks like something you could do at home with an electric plug-in "foot massager". If you're like me and use to something a bit more upscale (which is funny considering they had upscale prices) being sat in a leather arm chair while a laady squats on the floor to paint your nails may seem a little cheap. I don't know the woman who painted my nails but she is my sole (pun intended) reason for not returning. During my pedicure she told me the following: -She would not to my pedicure because I was 11 minutes late -I was wearing the wrong type of shoes for my body and feet (never heard this before after 10 years of pedicures) -I should've brought flip flops to this pedicure so I could dry my feet. I hadn't been told this when making the appointment and she proceeded to wrap my toes in tissues *facepalm* -My skin was very dry and I should take care of it -I could not use shellac on my nails, only the "weekly" nail colors To top off a craptastic pedicure where I felt neither relaxed nor pampered my nails smudged after waiting longer than the allotted time of 8 minutes to dry. When I asked her to repair them she said she didn't have time. I ended up redoing the whole pedicure at home myself. I don't know about the rest of Millies but I wouldn't return based on the fact that the stockroom salon was very rude to me. read more

Have been very off my food for some time due to ill health but really loved my tasty lunch here last week. Haven't fully explored the place until now and am annoyed with myself for missing out. Great helpful staff and very well informed about all the wares) Had a lovely and cheap as chips lunch at the back, it was a beef casserole with butternut mash. The nicest most tasty meal I have had in ages, was so enthralled with it and will definately be going back real soon. Lovely atmosphere and very helpful staff on hand too. An organic food store that also incorporates a whole floor of nutritional supplements, a yoga studio and a resident therapist, Millie's isn't kidding around when it comes to promoting a healthy lifestyle. Theoretically, you could fulfil all your shopping needs here, with everything from eco-friendly cleaning products and cosmetics to organic vegetables and packaged goods on the shelves, plus cheese and bread selections more varied and much tastier than those in the local supermarkets. Saving the planet comes at a price, however, and unless you're very well off you'll struggle to do your entire weekly shop here. Save it instead for the occasional treat, like a delicious lunch from the deli or a cut of local, organic beef. The store also hosts regular events where you can try new products like organic make-up, and the therapy room offers an impressive 20% off therapies for students. read more

Being a bridesmaid in a fortnight and having to wear stappy sandals I thought I'd better get my feet and toes sorted so opted for a pedicure. Having seen rave reviews here for Millies Beauty I thought I'd try and book myself in for a luxury pedicure as it was my first time. As it was Sunday evening I emailed them and they replied Monday morning with a free appointment on one of my requested times. I was impressed as I'd read they were busy evenings and weekends! So off I went to my appointment, asked at the counter of Millies Shop and she directed me upstairs towards the sliding doors. Inside was compact but clean and seemed well stock of colours counter. Was greeted with friendly staff called Charlotte and she was going to do my pedicure. I felt comfortable but was bit surprised when she brought out a mat. So guessing we're doing the pedicure at their reception then! Charlotte was very friendly and chatty and I felt relaxed for my first ever pedicure. Had a foot bath, scrub, massage, moisturised and painted but didn't bring flip flops! Doh!!! She took her time and I was very impressed. read more

Worked at this salon for about a month, absolutely shocking management and communication skills on the owners behalf. Was told in my interview that I would work 1-2 Sunday's a month to then only have 1 off in 6 weeks. All the girls are on different pay even though most have the same skills ranging from 9 pound an hour to 6.75 for girls of similar age and qualification. Gave my notice of leaving did a week (although I had no contract and had a higher paying job wanting me that same week) was told I was always welcome back for them not to pay me my week in hand and has ignored various amounts of phone calls and emails sent to them and has hit even given me my p45 after 6 ignored emails. Said I "broken the contact" that i didn't have by ringing in sick, which was not answered/ignored once again. Advice if you go for a job here tell them what pay you want as they seem to go by what you say rather than going by qualification, was working there over a month and didn't even receive a uniform and holiday requests emails and phone calls are ignored my management. Not a very good place to work!!! I fact the worst I gave ever worked at! read more

Where to start? Millie's Fresh and Organic advertises itself as just that - an organic health food store yet when you dive deeper it seems to be a little confused. The only organic produce they could offer was some limp veg that was most definitely not fresh! There is a focus on Ethical Beauty yet Millie's sells Burts Bee's which is clearly an animal product. And perhaps the most disheartening part of my shopping trip was talking to staff. I asked one of the girls if she could recommend a good multivitamin entirely from natural food sources, I was greeted with a blank look before being recommended Solgar vitamins - not what i asked for. Another told me they did not sell Amaranth and she'd never heard of it, although I later found it in the store myself. If you're looking for a good health store in Leeds my advice would be to check out Out Of This World instead, a better selection and more knowledgeable staff. read more

Went for a hollywood wax at the upstairs salon in Millies. The room was filthy, and the whole process seemed really rushed and unprofessional, especially considering the intimate nature of my wax. The whole thing was over and done with in less than 5 minutes I would say, which seemed very quick at the time compared to hollywood waxes I've had elsewhere which lasted over an hour. When I saw the state of my skin afterwards I was HORRIFIED. It was so damaged and felt like sandpaper (I have had waxes before and I know that my skin does not normally react this way). I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a wax avoids this poor excuse for a salon at all costs. read more

By far, the worst bikini wax I have ever had! I'm talking burn marks and a whole lot of swelling! Six hours after the event and I'm still in a ridiculous amount of pain. And to make matters worse, there's still hairs left. However, the staff were really friendly and chatty (which is why I award them with one star). read more

This organic shop is trying to be a local health food shop with big-chain appeal. It is cream coloured, aseptically clean and tidy, fully packed shelves and high prices yet minimally staff. The staff are lovely to talk to and will chat about products with you - they stock one of my favorite cheese which is neither local or organic. Although it is lovely to see more shops with this healthy/organic/alternative spin the main ethos (as the title leads one to believe) is not followed through in the actual products on sale. Having said this many products available are organic and may be I just need to open my eyes more to find the local and fresh bit. read more

I visited the beauty salon at Millie's for a manicure (the £20/45 minute one) recently and really enjoyed it! The beautician, Emily, was really friendly and chatty, and the manicure was great. The salon was small but relaxed and not too fussy, which I liked, and even the cuticle work - which I normally hate - didn't really hurt (compared to some other places I've been to). After a hand and forearm massage I chose from a really cool range of colours for my nails. The manicure lasted really well, even standing up to a week scrambling around in the fields in the Lake District! Plus with 20% for students it's a hard deal to beat. Great value and lovely place! read more

i decided to go to Millies Leeds to get full leg and hollywood wax treatments. i was very nervous as it was my first time waxing (except for bottom half of my legs). started off with hollywood wax. it was fine (painful, but fine) until i started bleeding because apparently the clit skin got ripped off in the process. i was bleeding quite a lot and the lady who attended me assured me that because i was going to have my period soon, my skin is very thin hence the bleeding. she asked me to massage lotion over the waxed area and left the room. so basically i ended up getting a somewhat brazilian wax (with some wax still left on) and still hairy legs. i didn't get charged though. but i just keep questioning whether the waxing strip was even supposed to be in contact with the clit? i don't know how hollywood wax is supposed to be like since it was my first time. but honestly to me that doesn't make sense. i've consulted with a friend who has tried hollywood wax treatments and she said that should not have happened. since the lady knew it was my first time, i thought she would go all easy on me, or provide some pre-waxing treatment, or even advice me about post-waxing treatment. but no. maybe i've put too high expectations because i've read good reviews about this place, which made me decided to step out of my comfort zone and go for the waxing treatments. i'm very disappointed, and i hope no one else will ever experience this. read more
