The shop is well stocked and laid out with fresh counted for fish, meat, cheese and cakes. They have an excellent wine section with a specialist roaming around nearby :) As a regular I have come to know the people that work there so it makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The quick pay service and the free newspaper for myWaitrose members is an added bonus. I go shopping on my motorbike so it helps that I can pack my rucksack and saddle bags as I go rather than all at the end of my shop at the checkout. Enjoy :)

This Morrisons store is fairly new to York and is located on Foss Islands road…read more Morrisons offers what you would expect from a large supermarket chain - but it is a little different. Morrisons 'market place' is a unique set out for a supermarket and you can find fresh fruit and veg along side a fish monger and butchers where just like the advert shows you, the staff will be more than happy to talk you through whatever cut of meat you require or even fillet your fish for you. There is also a bakery and rotisserie offering yummy treats such as pork pies and sausage rolls as well as hot roast chickens. Another good point worth mentioning about Morrisons is that they do from time to time do brilliant offers. It's worth looking out for them on the internet or in your local paper.

It is large enough to have a full range of goods that you would expect of Morrisons and is conveniently located for York city centre. Being brand new it is also clean and specious, There is also a large car park with petrol station and car wash available. This store is also on the same site as a large Homebase store and Frankie & Benny's restaurant!

Its open normal hours 8 am - 8pm monday to saturday and then 10am - 4pm on sundays. All your foods and drinks are stocked here and as everybody knows with all tescos their is a great choice of varied foods on offer. At the moment they have the offers of drinks so christmas celebrating doesn't have to cost too much. They also have a decent sized electrical section for your low cost kettles and toaster and other kitchen appliances. They also stock a limited range of large screen tvs so you literaly can get most things in this store. One of the downsides to tesco in newton le willows is that is doesn't have a clothing section, but i suppose you can't have everything. Parking here is great and free so long as you do not overstay. There is plenty of disabled spaces and children parking areas. Toilets in this tesco are kept very clean which is amazing as they are the only public toilets in the area whilst your out and about shopping. Staff here are lovely and helpful, always on hand to help with any queries or even with your packing of your weekly shop. They also offer a saving scheme, where you can buy £1 stamps and save on a card. For every £49 you save they give you £1 and you can redeem these on any of the stores items which is another great way to save for christmas or other occasions. Well worth a shopping trip.

This is the only big supermarket in town that I know of (apart from M&S but they don't sell everything I wanted.) There is no big Asda/Tesco/Morrisons in town though. Asda! my favourite supermarket of them all, and Asda Monks Cross is HUGE!!…read more Asda is probably the cheapest of the 'big' supermarkets, I'm going to start by telling you about the clothes! To get to the clothes you have to journey up the 'travelator', my daughter thinks this is the best bit! it's like a slanting walkway that takes you up to the mezzanine floor where the clothes are. The best part of Asda clothes is the value, t shirts and jeans, jumpers etc. Wardrobe essentials at great prices, typically you can get a pair of jeans from as little as £3! The childrens clothes are fantastic, hard wearing and value for money whilst still very much on trend! Back down the travelator to the dvd's, cd's, compter games as well as mobile phones, tv's dvd players and sometimes even computers and laptops! There's always a brilliant selection of electrical items at good prices and they even have a 'budget' range! Great for students (toaster for £3 anyone)? Asda's own range of food is great, worth a try. Definitely give the Tiger bread a try .. YUMMY

Asda is usually great for offers as well and the Welcomer at the front of the store usually announces what offers they currently have over the tannoy at regular intervals. If, like me, you ever struggle to choose between about three sandwhich options then you may be liable to be frozen in cant-decide panic at the endless choices presented to you by Abu Bakar! Even the halva section appears to be never ending! They sell a wide selection of vegetables, a broad variety of juices, endless rows of pulses, spices, herbs, cakes, bread, jars of pickled items, huge sacks of rice and flour - possibly aimed at businesses but may be handy if you live in a big house, loads of condiments (including some very mysterious and tantalising items such as a pot of chololate and cherry something...spread?...whose ingredients list was in Polish only). Homeware-wise they have pots, pans, crockery and kitchen utensils. There is also a halal meat counter. As Susan mentions, Abu Bakar is aimed at the Aisian community, but for anyone like me with boringly British culinary habits it is a fascinating and exciting place of endless possibilities and obscure and intriguing ingredients.

The staff are really helpful, and the nearby parking means it's ideal if you need to do a large shop but don't want to do the supermarket run. Worth stopping by to check out the huge range of exotic fruit juices - hangover heaven.
