Bert Powell is, as I had been told by everyone who I'd spoken to that knows him, a self serving…read moreperson without integrity or character. My experience with him occurred one week after I moved to Tyler. While I was back in Austin bringing another load of household items, he took it upon himself to have his handyman begin chopping two feet off of my backyard Stone Fence. I drove in and caught the man doing it and motioned for him to stop. He spoke no english, so I had to give him hand signals in order for him to understand. He left, but about two hours later, I heard the chopping again and had to go out and make him get off the fence again. Evidently Mr. Powell had ordered him to continue anyway.I went over to Powell Properties office around the corner to find out who had given the order to do that to my fence. After a few days, I spoke with Mr. Powell and he proceeded to ask for money from me to finish off capping the top part that they had left jagged and ugly. I thought about it a while and eventually decided that it was his responsibility to cap it off, since he had not even asked my permission to begin with. I called and told him I'd like him to cap it off and he said that I would have to chip in some money because he had already spent $200. chopping it down and told me that a "decent" property owner would understand that the cost should be split. I told him that a "decent" property owner wouldn't make the decision to chop someone else's fence up without prior agreement that there was a need and prior agreement to split the costs. It seems Mr. Powell doesn't care much about his neighbors and has gotten away with throwing his weight around a bit too easily and quite certain of getting his way. He really is a man without character and out for himself only. In the past year,I have referred two different workers to him, who did work for him and left unsatisfied with the money he was willing to pay them for their labors, as well as the way they were treated by this man. My advice is to rent or purchase with him with your legal advisor because it seems he is the only one who wins in his world.

Professional, dependable, and truly stands behind his work. I highly recommend Champion Fence to anyone in the Tyler area.

Two weeks after hearing from him, he text me, without leaving a name or any information as to who he was asking if I was still interested in a particular house. I let him know that I didn't know what house they meant to which the rude reply was 'If you aren't interested just say not interested.' At least this time he left his name at the end of the message- Bobby Carter. Don't use this agent. He is knowledgeable in his field since he is a Real Estate Broker, and has purchased and sold real estate investments himself. I like that I was dealing with an agent that actually owned property and worked his business full-time. I have used him twice for the sale and purchase of property in the Los Angeles and San Bernardino areas and I'm looking to following his advice on acquiring real estate investment properties as a strategy to retirement as he has shown me. I found Joseph to be a professional effective communicator and followed through with what he said he was going to do. He spent some time answering my questions and informing me of the process as well as the pitfalls and how to be best protected prior to entering a contract. He didn't pressure me at all, and I can see that he loves what he does in his chosen profession. Keep up the great work Joseph!

I believe in rewarding people for their hard work. They also had the best price for the best value from the 3 different quotes we got. Project was paint, make repairs, build new steps, and other smaller things to my house. Got money on Tuesday didn't come back till the next Monday with no supplies. Said since his business was 1 1/2 hour away from my house that would cut into working time. Remember he worked for me before at same place but now 3 hours driving time is factor in work time and purchasing supplies time. He rarely showed up before 11 am and left by 3 pm. He had to ask for more advance money because spent my money on truck repairs and so couldn't buy any paint. Already 2 weeks in so had to trust him or would loose $7000 and work barely done. The whole project was only supposed to be two weeks. Kept moving from one area to another never quite finishing an area. When got to painting chimney told us rotten. We agreed to additional $2800 to repair, replace, and make safe. Put it in writing too. His ideal of safe was to use particle board and pressed wood. When chimney man came to check told us would probably catch fire. When confronted him he was rude and argumentative so we asked him to finish what we had paid for and leave. We had luckily on paid $1400 on chimney so not out full amount of extra project but had already paid full amount in house repair. 5 days later came back to do this but only fixed couple things and left. We now have to pay someone to finish what we paid him for originally let alone the mess with chimney being unsafe. We have everything written out but can't afford to pursue in court because having to finish his leftovers. So beware of this business He is now harassing me with text messages.
