I challenge anyone…read moreto find a better-stocked shop for this kind of stuff without going into town or farther out to the likes of Braehead or Clydebank. They're a bit of a younger upstart to the likes of Graham Tiso, and tend to favour the mid- to upper-end of the market with top brand names at premium prices - although they do often have discounted items so it's always worth a look. I find most of their clothing to be out of my price comfort zone (I'm more the Regatta end of the market), so I seldom do any serious shopping here. However I am a huge fan of their thermawear fleecy baffies (that's slippers to non-natives) in the winter, which cover up your ankles quite a way thus preventing draughts up the trouser leg. They don't last more than a season or two as they're more akin to heavy-duty socks really; but they're lightweight, comfy and good value. Sadly on this particular visit they didn't have them in stock; apparently it's still considered to be summer in Scotland - who knew? I shall have to return later. 150th review!

Not quite an old persons shop, but certainly fluttering around the middle age, middle of the road " comfortable" salary earning bracket, Cotswold is a well stocked, well priced outdoor gear store staffed by knowledgeable friendly staff who are more than happy to give you the time of day as you ask them blatantly stupid questions " just how waterproof is this waterproof....can i wear it in the bath...if i fall in the ocean with a book in my pocket will it stay dry???" ,Anyway, just bought a wee set of reins for the child like wonder that is my daughter form here. Good price, good advice..." do not use to tie child up outside shops, do not use as a means of propelling oneself behind said child on a skateboard or roller blade's"....you know, the usual health and safety crap. Well, imminent social service visit inducing comments aside, this is a proper grown up outdoor store. Get your ass here if you need anything from jackets to child carriers....kick bottom...not of child, page 346 section 4 paragraph 9 of the European "Don't do that, it's just stupid" handbook.

Now the…read moresurprise comes entirely from its location, its not in anyway on the beaten track and will only really get business from those who live in the area or use Maryhill road to commute. Given this relatively low catchment area its nice to see that its still going strong after a number of years in business. Its a good store, with good stock selling gear at relatively reasonable prices (for football tops that is....can anybody tell me my polyester is so expensive as soon as you put a clubs crest on it??) and gets my thumbs up!

However, Man's World does remain one of the handiest clothing outlets on Byres Road on account of its stock of uniforms for nearby schools. Confusingly, despite what you would assume to be a fairly self-explanatory name, it also does well through the renting of dresses. As for the fashion, well i have to be honest and say I've only ever bought socks from here. Good socks, admittedly, but I'm not sure the quality is matched by the rest of the stock which appears to be a little tired and dated. Worth a look though for every day essentials.

However, my main YAY! for this shop does come solely from an experience which happened a couple of weeks ago. The boy's mother came up to Glasgow for the day and while I was hard at work, they went for a stroll. On this stroll, the boy was bought some brand new, spanking clean socks by his mother. Not, really the kind of thing I would normally make a big deal of. But for the past month he'd been wearing either socks with massive holes in them or purple thermal numbers of mine. Who knew a pair of new, clean black socks could be so so sexy??

Staff need to get off their high horses especially managers. i walked into the shop to look at a…read morepackage for travelling, i wanted to check there was a pocket inside for my laptop but upon opening the bag there was a load of clingfilm in it so i took it out to check but before I could a manger was at my side asking if everything was okay. I replied with "yes" and she then stood right beside me whilst radioing for someone else to come over. I was then watched whilst looking at this bag by the two staff members less than a metre to my side, and when I mean staring I mean staring!!! i then thought sod this I'm off, as I was leaving the shop the both of them had the bag on the floor searching through it. If you're going to treat people like criminals that are going to spend £100+ on a bag then maybe my money is better spent elsewhere. Staff need a major reality check and brought down a peg!!

Generally Decathalon is a great shop, although it can be a bit hit and miss, depending on what…read moreyou're looking for. It's superb for cheap fleecy items - you can get a fleecy hat or pair of gloves for literally £1 or a couple of quid. It's also good for general sports tops and the like. Basically the sort of stuff that you don't need to be too technical, and don't really care if it gets wrecked. Although credit where it's due, the sports tops are certainly hard wearing - I've had mine for years and they're still holding up well. I've also bought sports bras and running socks here, and they are decent enough. What I find it's not so good for is for the more technical items. I wouldn't buy a base layer from Decathlon. Or items for curvier ladies. I think they might be a Spanish company perhaps - which generally means that their own brand version of 'large' is certainly not a UK version of 'large'. My recent attempt to buy skiing salopettes here did not end well. I got them on, but I sure as hell wasn't going to be able to ski in them! And I'm only a size 12 - clearly gigantic by continental standards. They also seem to stock a wide selection of kit although again that seems a bit hit and miss - they didn't have any sparring gloves that were suitable for my purposes, but Simon H bought a great pair of skiing boots for a very reasonable price, and we did also have our eye on a mighty fine inflatable kayak at one point, which we haven't bought. There is a wide range of camping equipment like sleeping bags and tents, cookers to waterproof clothing. A fantastic shop that stocks items that others don't have. The camping gas for stoves is £1 cheaper than crockets.

The…read morefirst time I went in years ago I was really stupid and was too concerned about the look of the bike rather than making sure it was the correct size for me and woudl do all I wanted it to do I went for one that was a bit too big for my frame and the guy mentioned this to me and suggested others more in my size, but did I listen? No. He was right. I was never comfortable on the bike as I had too much of a stretch to gthe handlebars which seems like nothing at first but when you have been out for a while you really feel it uncomfortable. I ended up getting a sore neck every time I went out and qucikly went off the idea. The more recent time I went in, I actually listened to all the advice, and asked loads of questions which they readily answered. The got the bike in for me in no time and as it is a ladies fit, is the perfect stretch! They have plenty of bikes to choose from and loads of brochures, so will get one in for you if not in stock. A great old-fashioned bike shop!
