I wouldn't generally class myself as a "sporty" type. I snowboard without falling too much and that's about it. However, I had a wee shot at tennis the other week, and to my shock and horror (and my husbands), I actually enjoyed it!?!?
So before my enthusiasm disappeared, we thought the best thing to do was to go and purchase my own racquet. I went to sports direct at the strathkelvin retail park because they always seem to have a sale on and it was handy. The retail park itself was mobbed and getting parked was a bit of a problem, this seems to be the norm here at the weekends. Once inside, we snaked through overly stocked rails, the odd discarded training shoe and other bits and pieces of stuff lying around. Finally we reached the back wall where all kinds of racquets and bats are hanging up.
The next challenge was finding the one that fitted my grip size. After looking at all the ones at my eye level and my hubby's foot taller eye level, we couldn't find one.
Now I don't know why they do this but there is loads of other stock on rails way way WAY above the ones that you can actually reach, so at that point a member of staff is required with pretty big ladders.
This is the next challenge! I got the attention of boy that looked about 12 ( I'm just getting old) and as soon as I explained the situation, he said it wasn't his department, he works in the shoe bit!!! Hmmmmm ok then. Got someone else to help and all they did was look through the ones at eye level like id already done and told them this but maybe they thought one would appear as if by magic in the space of 2 mins. Even she had to admit defeat and fetch the aforementioned super size ladders.
Yaaaaay! Success, got a racquet that was the right size, right price and looked pretty good too.
Going by my experience, I'd wait till maybe during the week before coming here again. The car park should be quieter, the shops should be less manic and the staff will maybe be a bit more willing to help.
Went to play tennis that afternoon with my new shiny racquet and got gubbed about 274-1. But obviously that was the racquets fault!!! read more
