Was visiting some friends in NJ and we decided to do an escape room together as part of our Christmas celebration. I've done a TON of these and they're always so much fun. I have experienced some really good ones and some really bad ones-- Puzzle Out and Grand Theft Jersey City would rank in the top of the middle. On Friday night, we booked a room for 10 of us friends for the following Saturday Night. I was surprised they had availability for their 10PM session. I gave the room a call first to ask if it would be possible to have a private game since there were so many of us. It worked out because they have two of the same rooms-- a walk in came so they were able to put them in the other room. The website says that up to 30 people can play in this room (which is CRAZY) but I don't think that's correct. 10 in the room is the perfect amount. The game itself was fun. I haven't done one where there was more than one objective (i.e. to get out and get more money). There were a few broken/notworking elements which essentially hindered our overall performance (if we were able to use it properly we would've gotten out). The debrief at the end was also a little unorganized. All in all, I'd come again or go to their Hoboken location to try another room. read more

My husband and I woke up with hand, foot, and mouth disease this morning, which we caught from our two year old daughter. My husband is miserable and I am in a lot of pain. Neither of us foresaw this and we were both looking forward to attending prior to becoming ill. I am aware that there is a $30 rescheduling fee (which seems high, as each of our tickets cost $30 as it is) but I thought that illness might be an exception, especially as this rash is highly contagious and I did not develop the blisters until this morning (the day of the booking). Unfortunately, upon calling, the employee informed me that his manager could not authorize the waiving of our rebooking fee. I honestly find this to be ridiculous! When exactly does the manager find a situation necessary for the fee to be waived!? Only after someone dies? Am I really expected to come in and participate, possibly infecting all those I come into contact with and while in pain? My husband and I are first time parents and live in Jersey City with no nearby family. We literally had this date night planned for weeks and it was devastating enough just to have to reschedule it, let alone find I needed to cough up ANOTHER $30 just to schedule it for another day. I am not made of money as it is and have to budget out the things we do paycheck to paycheck. Not only do I not have an extra $30 on hand, I also feel strongly that it was not fair or just to expect me to pay. I honestly feel like the manager I spoke to had no empathy or compassion for my situation and when I expressed my frustration with him and ultimately told him I planned to communicate via the website and other online forums about my feelings he smugly told me to use my freedom of speech and hung up the phone. I am now out $60, with no experience, and feel like I've been treated like a dispensable piece of garbage. I will NEVER give my business to puzzle out again and will specifically seek out alternative puzzle room companies to give my business to in future. I also plan to provide an in depth review of the company and how I was treated to every website I can find. Your employees should really be trained to have more compassionate toward their customers and attempt to treat people with more genuine respect. read more

Went with a group of 7, and had a great time. They give coupons to other puzzle rooms (in JC) at the end, so be sure to ask them for it if interested in doing more of these. One downside is the parking. But it's Hoboken, so it's expected. We took the Uber. read more

It doesn't look like much when you approach the building. But the old decor and older feel of the building enhances the theme for the room. It was my first escape room and I really enjoyed myself. Me and a group of about 6 guys got together to tackle this room. It's clever and interesting and we got out with 8 mins to spare! I'm already researching other places to go. So much fun!! My friends and I booked an 8pm slot for 7 earlier that day. Kind of hard to find because we didn't see any signs outside the building, but we just asked someone. Lots of puzzles to figure and going in a larger group would be best for this one so you can split up to work on the puzzles. Lots of fun! We ended up finding a couple of the clues from pure luck lol. But we escaped with 14 minutes to spare! Missed the leader board by 5 minutes :/ but so much fun nonetheless! read more

I really enjoyed this - and yes, it's run by the same folks who operate the one I did last week. the theme of this one was the 1930s and it felt pretty immersive, especially since the building it's in is pretty old, has posters for 1920s and 1930s era cruise lines and travel posters, and so on. funny enough, one of the best puzzles was actually finding the place! the entrance to the building wasn't exactly well-labelled and we might have circled the block... we were a group of four and got partnered with a group of three other people. didn't know the other three people, but we all worked well together. since this room is physically pretty small, I would say that 7 was a good team size. one of the props in the room was malfunctioning so we were allowed to use a cell phone for it. $30 a person and they were open on a Sunday night. getting hooked on these things now. read more

Worst experience ever. The facility is really old and dirty. I can tell there is no maintenance for this room at all. The carpet is really dirty, and the some of magnets on the back of the blocks don't work. Every time we tried to get a hint the staff sounds a little bit clueless as well. He told us we had one step away but actually we had 3-4 steps left. The most frustrating thing is he told us we were supposed to have one more thing in the room that was actually not there. So no matter what we did there was no way to escape from this room. He found out that and was just like yah it is supposed to be there whatever. NO APOLOGIES AT ALL. I have never seen any business like this before. I feel they won't even care a little bit about the bad reviews either. I saw some reviews said the same thing but clearly they didn't care about their own business and the customer. We spent more than $100 to solve some puzzles that can't be solved at all and got no apologies either. I do NOT recommend this place for anybody. Don't waste your money and time here. read more

Really excellent set up and game - truly involves team work. I went twice in the last five months - one as a team building exercise for my staff members and the second time with family - both times the game was different, the experience was unique, and everyone had a great time. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the building its housed in is historic and hella cool. Take the fam, take friends, or take your co-workers to a really great time. I had a great time at Puzzle Out! I was so excited there was one close to where I live and I didn't have to travel to NY. I've been to a couple of escape rooms and I felt this was by far the most challenging yet fun at the same time. We finished with a minute remaining. If you want an awesome escape room experience this is the place to go! I went here on a Monday night and the host (Moses) was very polite and helpful. He went over the rules, and was patient with us. After the game he told us about other rooms we could try at their other locations. He definitely made the experience 10x better. The rooms are REALISTIC and I spent a good 3 mins just admiring all the props they had. Everything looked so real and the game was challenging but still logical. Just did Puzzle Out Room with 8 of us for their grand opening and had an amazing time! It's the only escape room in Hoboken which is a nice addition to the area! The building was right by the water and went with the theme of the escape room which had a 1930s theme. It was extremely well designed and cleverly put together. There were plenty of clues and hints in the room itself to occupy all 8 of us. There was a TV screen which displayed the remaining time as well as the hints which was helpful and gave me anxiety LOL! Sooo AWESOME and totally recommend this as a MUST DO with friends for fun and laughs! read more

We didn't get out but we had a great time. The first puzzle is to actually find the entrance to the building. We got there on a Sunday afternoon and there were no signs on the building. The first floor of the building is a private school so we didn't want to just open any doors. The staff was super nice and helpful. We went with 4 adults and 2 kids (9 and 11). We all have done other escape rooms and successfully got out before. I found this particular one not the best because a lot of the props seemed pretty worn out. One of them (according to the staff) doesn't work all the time so we were allowed to use our cell phone instead. The magnets don't always stick and keep falling to the ground and some paper were peeling off. We would signal for clues but it will take more than a few minutes before we were acknowledged. The screen which shows us the remaining time kept going out. We didn't solve all the clues on time but the staff was really nice and gave us 10 more minutes (I guess cuz of the kids). read more

Excellent puzzles and excellent staff! I have been to a couple of escape rooms in the past, but "puzzle out" offers something different to the typical mold.
