I LOVE skee ball so we stopped to see if they had one. They did! We grabbed a beer at the bar, which has a great selection, and proceeded to play about 10 rounds of skee ball. We also played air hockey, but my husband beat me 7-1 so That was enough of that game. They have several classic games, but they didn't have Tempest which was my favorite as a kid. The bartender said the owner was interested in opening the back to be a beer garden. That would be a great addition.

One other thing. It requires 2 hands on the laser gun. If you tell the staff prior to your game, they can and willingly change the settings on the laser gun, for you. The store is massive and carries used books of every genre, as well as gently-loved puzzles, Funko characters, Squishmallows, toys, vinyl, movies, board games, CDs, video games, etc. It's a really fun place to browse and it has something for just about everyone. The store is organized pretty well considering how much inventory they have. My only complaint as a buyer is that most items are overpriced. For example, a used paperback copy of TJ Klune's House in Cerulean Sea is $17 and a lovely used puzzle I was looking at buying was $15. I would rather support McKay's than big-box stores or Amazon, but in this economy it is also hard to justify spending $5 - $10 more for a used version than I would a new one elsewhere. That being said, every now and then, I find a really good deal at McKay's. I purchased a paperback copy of Less by Andrew Sean Greer for 25 cents, which made my day. Selling books here can be slightly disheartening. I recently took in a stack of 18 books, including a popular hardcover which was being sold in the store for $17 at the time, and I only received $13 in store credit for the entire stack. I am not sure how this compares with other stores that buy used books, but in the future I will probably only sell items that I would have donated anyway so that any store credit, no matter how little, feels like a little bonus.

Do NOT send your kids to Skillz4Kidz ‼ (Slightly long post…read moreincoming) Skillz4Kidz is completely irresponsible and negligent to the safety and well being of children's lives. I signed my two kids up to participate in "camp" this week at the Burlington location while they were on break from school. Upon arriving at drop off this morning, I was informed by Coach Chidel that they were going to be taking all the kids to the park. When I raised concern why we were not made aware of any "field trips" before hand, there was no explanation. I then asked how they were transporting the kids. I was told in a van. I asked if they had proper car seats to transport my kids in, as they are only 5 years old and under 40 pounds, they require a 5 point harness car seat. I was assured MANY times they had proper car seats and knew of proper car seat safety. I found out at the end of the day, that both of my children were transported without any car seat or booster seat. When I found out, I immediately called the Skillz 4 Kidz office and Stacey answered the phone. I expressed my HUGE concern over their lack of safety protocols for my children, not requiring signed permission slips, and being lied to by Chidel. I received no sympathy, concern, or accountability from Stacey on the situation. I requested a call from Shannon to discuss this situation further. I received a call back 15 minutes later from Stacey. She informed me that she had spoken with Shannon and they wanted to let me know they weren't legally required to have kids in car seats in their van and they "forgot to send an email out about taking the kids to the park." I let them know this was still completely unacceptable as I was assured my children would be transported in proper car seats and I would not have let them stay at the facility if I was told otherwise. I still received no concern or accountability. Upon doing my own research of North Carolina laws, they are LEGALLY required to transport any kid under 8 years or 40 pounds in a proper car seat for their age, height, and weight. When I called back to the office, Alex answered. When I informed him of the situation and that they illegally transported my children today, I once again received NO accountability for the actions of this business. I was completely blown off by everyone at Skillz4Kidz. Do NOT send your children to any of their facilities.
