This is by far the worst rescue group I have ever adopted from. I adopted a cat from them a few years ago and the cat was completely unsocialized to humans and the every other animal (even with very slow introductions) she would viciously attack the other cats in the home. She'd eat nails, light bulbs, plastic, wires. It's something called Pica which we're aware of but we were NOT told about this prior to bringing her home. When I realized I absolutely couldn't keep her anymore because she was stressed out my other cats so badly, I attempted to contact them. All my phone calls went unanswered and ignored, so I finally just brought the cat in unannounced because I was fed up with being ignored. Fast forward to this year, they posted a picture of three snowshoe kittens as a "sneak peek". I walked my application in the very same day they were posted and circled the kitten I'd like. I would call and post comments on the pictures of the kittens on Facebook and Instagram AND direct messages them on Facebook and every single I was PROMISED I would be told that the kitten wouldn't be adopted out from under me since I got my application in so soon. I was told that we'd be told one way or another. So, the other day I logged onto Facebook and I saw "Sorry not sorry for those who didn't get their applications in early" with the very kitten I wanted. Wow, really? I reached back out via direct message and was told to the lovey "Elaine" to the the MANAGER tends to IGNORE not only the PHONE but also the EMAIL. Makes since why no one gets back to you. I will never, ever return to this place. They're a horrible business with terrible customer service. Because they left us hanging we DID decide to go to a much better shelter to actually CARES about their pets and their pet parents. We adopted a BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT snowshoe. We foster through them and help kittens until they can find their forever homes. Do your research. Don't support business that don't care about

Our perfect baby from Great Plains. Love her.

I would NOT recommend this place. They DO NOT keep their word...and they leave you hanging. I responded to a post regarding three Snowshoe kittens they highlighted via social media - as a sneak preview. The kittens would not be ready for adoption for a couple of weeks, so we downloaded an application and hand-walked it into their place that day...which was back in November. We were assured by Kimberly that the kitten we were interested in would NOT be adopted out from under us since we got our application in so soon. We even circled which kitty it was on the photo we attached, so they would know for sure who we wanted. We followed up by asking questions on social media as well as placing phone calls what the status of our app was. Each time we were assured the app would be looked over by Elaine and we would hear soon if we were accepted or rejected. We NEVER heard back from them. It is now Dec. 16 and the only way we found out we were not accepted was through their posts on FB and Instagram of the people who got to adopt the kittens! They even put a smart aleck remark about those that didn't get their applications in. "Sorry, not sorry, to anyone who hasn't gotten applications in yet for our raccoon faced snowshoe Siamese kittens. The first two of the three went home today. Peanut and Kamodo found their forever home with Kashelle K. and Crystal S. Those smiles say it all. " Talk about rubbing salt in the wound. So, I posted an angry comment under each of the "happy" adoption photos and within SECONDS, my post was deleted and I was immediately BLOCKED from their site. Wow. If they really cared about what people felt and wanted to rectify the situation, they would not do that. Rather, post an apology or an explanation why the adoption was handled in that manner. Bad business practices leave a bad impression with potential adopters. I will NEVER support his organization and would not recommend them to anyone wanting to find a home for a cat or kitten. Instead, we found the PERFECT Snowshoe from Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, Kansas. They are an upstanding, friendly, super organization to work with. They care about the fur babies and the adopters. We love them so much, we foster momma cats and kittens through them until they are able to find their furrever homes. So, do your homework well. Do not patronize organizations that do not respond to your needs - especially if you are trying to adopt-not-shop for the perfect companion. They will never see me again. And they can block me forever. I don't care - glad I didn't give them a dime.

We got the most amazing cat you could imagine. Chloe, aka banana pepper who was thrown in a dumpster behind a subway restauraunt with her littermates. She is awesome. Our best buddy. They bottle fed her until she was weaned and thankfully let us take this blessing home my only regret is I didn't take her brother meatball too. She just turned 2 years old and she is truly amazing. Bless you for what you do.

Finally - a pet store that sells kittens instead of niggling yappy dogs (ahem, Land of Paws). I have never seen such sad little kittens and cats pawing for me and squeaking, barely meowing - and bizarrely in the middle of the abandoned Metcalf South Shopping Center (somehow this little miracle store has survived amidst the fall of nearly all its neighboring shops.) Metcalf South is a vortex - an eyesore, something to AVOID - were it not for this store (and the Glenwood Theater). Unlike other adoption agencies, the cages are roomier for the cats to live in and there aren't hundreds on top of each other. It's worth much more than a visit - the cats and kittens are mostly $100, with only a handful costing a little more. They have had their shots, none are strays - they simply have individual heart-warming stories as to why they were given up for adoption by their owners. I talked to a woman who worked there named Martha and she was so kind. She showed me the playroom where three cats were running amok, climbing scratching posts and chasing string. She told me they needed volunteers and I'm seriously considering helping out. Ever since I had to give away my own two cats (Felix and Baby Cat, who had been living with me for 14 years) - I miss being able to hold a kitten (I'm sure I sound like a weird cat lady at this point - but the animals are just so damn cute, who can blame me?!) So unexpectedly today, I found something of secret merit in Metcalf Mall - the best pet store I've been in for a LONG time.

City Thrift - Employees wear their racism proudly here

City Thrift is a great thrift store if you are looking for designer items like purses and jeans…read more They don't have much of a pet section, and their linens are limited. Those are typically the only things I shop for. Otherwise, the store is organized and the sales are clearly labeled. Although, I think they have already accomplished that from the other reviews. But, I wanted to make these reviews so the people who fall victim to their scam and unfathomable greed. Walking around we just saw predominately elderly shoppers. They have their items priced erratically. Remember that old raggedy 2000 jacket from old navy your mom bought you that you never wore so you threw it in the back of your closet and it grew it's own habit and ecosystem? Your mom bought it for 12.99 back in 2000, but now with its chic mold and living creatures and a few holes from the moths, at City Thrift they charge 19.99 not 20 but 19.99, cause if it ends in .99 it's a DEAL! We spent an hour playing, "guess the price". Probably the spookiest game since the Ouija. This place preys on the elderly, preys on the less fortunate. You could go to Walmart and buy 4 items for the price of one of theirs. This isn't a "vintage" store. This is a sham. I put every item I wanted back. Also, there's zero mirrors. No fitting rooms. They want you to buy it and be stuck with it. This isn't a store that cares about customers. This is a store of an owner with a poor business model and probably a grumpy ego. I may have put my other stuff back, but I found a duck okay? I wanted the duck. I needed this duck. Hate to give this place any money but, it was priced at 3.99, I could muster up 3.99 and save the duck. This little guy had a goodwill sticker that said 2.99. But... wait... when we went to the register, their sticker was magically gone. I asked how much they the duck was. Already wondering how much I'd squander for this poor duck. They debated whether to charge me what was already priced by goodwill (that they scribbled out) or up charge me...... Literally a preposterous suggestion. After walking an hour through this ghastly place and playing "guess the price" and trying to up charge me for my sweet duck sent me over the edge. I asked them, "how do you even pick prices for stuff?" She said, "we charge half of the retail price" Then I asked, what about the pitiable 2000 sweaters from 24 years ago? How do you know that retail price today? And how can you charge half for something two decades old? It's not vintage...it's someone's trash at this point. They had no answers. They must know the insanity behind the business model... I've attached some fun photos for yall to browse. You may need to put some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to dilute the spookies you're about to see.

I treasure the small intimate settings where you can really observe the animals. I dig on talking with the workers, who you can tell love their jobs. I don't mind the admission fees, because I know it goes right back into the animals. And I don't even mind getting stuck in the gift shop for the same reason. This is a smaller venue, so sometimes my kids fly through and I feel a little cheated, but the coolest part is you can just wrap back around again. Most the time you'll even see something different on the second pass.

I have such mixed things to say about this place. The best of it is the community of residents, the…read moresupport staff, and the relatively pretty, park-like surroundings, which is mostly lawn, but does include a little pocket of shade and a flower garden. There are a lot of selling points that aren't there. The "gym" is a cold, dark room with a table full of free weights and an elliptical machine that few can use, and the group exercise consists of, one day a week, having someone on staff turn on a TV in a common room and tune in to a broadcast chair exercise program. The "library" is a cold room with people's book discards and a lot of proselyting material. The library and the gym both are sealed off by very heavy fire doors, with difficult access for someone using a wheelchair or a walker. Meals are constructions of ultra-processed foods, with too much fat and salt, and all of the vegetables seem to come from cans. If you like tater tot casserole, you will thrive here. The best "activities" include weekly Spark meetings, two movies, "show-and-tell" programs in which residents give presentations in their areas of expertise; and then there are also calendar-filling things like hand massages. You never see an Armour Oaks van taking residents to the art museum, the Kauffman garden, or any play, lecture, or concert, but there is a weekly trip to Wal-mart. There is an on-site salon that charges extra if you have hair that is not naturally straight. There is a bingo game, a few card games, and a communal jigsaw puzzle. There is no dietitian, no group exercise options other than that one day each week in front of the TV. My parent has lived there for a while. It hadn't been on the top of our list of places to move to after the first time we toured, when the building reeked of sewer gas which the woman showing us an available apartment claimed was simply coming up through the foundation and then she deflected blame onto the city. At the time, we were told that there were more than 10 available apartments, but the one we were shown had been empty long enough for the water to have completely evaporated from the toilet bowl (the source of the sewer odor), but not long enough for AO to have cleaned the last tenant's food from the freezer. We returned for another look after hearing that a new building manager had been hired and was running the place with competence and integrity. That person has since been removed, as was the person who used to be in charge of dining before the age of the tater tot casserole.
