I'm glad I also ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer because there was very little chicken in the bowl. The "soup" also wasn't really soup or broth- it was more like a bunch of oil. The wings were pretty good, though. I ordered the halo coconut drink since it was listed in the drink section of the menu. I was expecting it to be a drink as advertised, but it came out as halo-halo ice cream as pictured. It was good, and it was my first time trying halo-halo, so there were a lot of different textures, but I liked it. Overall, I spent $40 and don't think it was worth it. This is a pretty good Filipino restaurant owned by the same people who started Domu & Soupa Noodles next door. You order at the two computer stands inside the restaurant and they will bring you the food. I love the wallpaper of famous Filipino stars (Manny Pacquiao, Jo Koy, guy from Black Eye Peas ). The chicharrón was too salty but great crunch. The pancit was decent; the chicken on it looked dry but actually tasted pretty good. You order through a kiosk and take a number to be seated. We of course lumpia which was delicious!!! I had the lechon with rice. Joseph ordered the shrimp Pancit; we both had cokes. I loved the space here. The posters, the Filipino pride it's a nice blend of everything and not gaudy. The pancit was delicious but wish there was a little more meat when you order. So disappointing. Arrived at 1130am on a Friday (May 8) and literally 95% of their main dishes were not available. My husband and I came here for the first time tonight. We had never tried a Filipino restaurant before and this was an incredible first experience! The restaurant has a convenient self-ordering kiosk, and is very well decorated inside but what really stood out was the service, which was absolutely phenomenal. The owner was extremely friendly, personable, and took the time to talk with us while we were placing our order. I let him know that I'm vegetarian, and he explained that almost everything on the menu can be modified. I ordered the noodle soup with tofu and vegetable lumpia. Normally the soup is made with a meat broth, but they also offer a delicious mushroom broth alternative upon request (also request no egg if you're vegan). When my food was coming out, I even overheard the owner double-checking in the kitchen to make sure my soup was prepared with the mushroom broth. That kind of attentiveness and care for dietary needs is something I truly value. The food presentation was beautiful, and everything tasted amazing. The ladies working the front were extremely helpful, this was our first time dining at Purple Roots. The interior is cute. I had the pumpkin curry with shrimp. Spouse had the breakfast Sigsing plate. The taste of the pumpkin curry was great. The dish was nice and hot (temperature wise). However, the chunks of pumpkin was a bit hard to chew, I have never eaten raw chunks of pumpkin, but I imagine it wouldn't be much different. The shrimp was the whole shrimp, head and all, deep fried and a bit overdone. It was served with two large scoops of Jasmin rice. Spouse had the Sigsing dish whoch had a sunny side up egg. The yolk was runny but the bottom was way over cooked. The meatloaf and rice was cold. The pork in the plate was small, diced cubes, and found two small bone pieces in the pork. The skewered chicken was really good. Even with a military discount and adding a tip, the dinner was $70+ for two. This Filipino restaurant is definitely my one of my go to Filipino restaurants. I have been here few many times since they opened. When they first opened they actually have a server that gets your order but this year they just started to have a kiosk for you to order and then you pick a number (which I have seen numerous time that customers get confused because they do not know where to get the number) and once you order you pick your own seat and then the server will bring you your order. to be honest I was not a big fan of it, I guess call me old fashioned person but I still want to have someone taking my order but of course I will not let that stop me for going to Purple Roots. Ambiance, they did a marvelous job on making sure that the Filipino heritage is seen. I am very proud of what they did to this place it always makes me smile seeing all the Filipino traditions they have. Food: I want to order everything but of course I couldn't so here we are: drinks - we tried the buko pandan and the taho and both of those drinks are very good and it actually reminds me of Philippines. Meal: we tried Chicken Adobo, Laing, palabok, laing. My ever favorite is the Laing since not a lot of places can cook a good Laing hence goes my 4 stars unfortunately, last time we were here I ordered Laing and it didn't not taste good and I even had my sister tried it and she said the same thing. A tad confusing as the specials weren't on there. But a very nice employee came over and gave us a hand with the process and did some explaining of the options.
