Somehow the only dentist in the Chicagoland area who I still owe money while having premium dental insurance after they've only done routine dental procedures. They also charge you a $30 "teaching fee" every time you come just to improve margins. Really friendly front desk people but this practice is trying too hard to monetize dentistry. read more

I am writing this sincerely so when you read it, you understand I am not an angry or heated review. As a Marketing Executive I understand the power and importance of reviews. I rated them a 1 Star because I feel like this this the type of place you come to, if you want to feel like a number and a bill. I've come here now for a couple years, left and tried my old dentist, and then came back here. The dentist himself, and his assisting team are great. Absolutely fabulous. Thorough, fine tuned, they treat you like a human and as if they care. It's when you have to deal with the office manager, the feeling vanishes and you no longer have that cared for feeling or like you are a human being. I recently had an appointment and gave a 24 hour cancellation (honestly forgetting it's 48hours), after learning the night before the morning I cancelled, I was needed for a meeting I did not schedule. I had less than 48 to cancel and being a promotion, I would never skip it. Professionals, who they serve, require a level of flexibility. I am not a cleaning only patient. I had a very planned out treatment plan requiring thousands of dollars of royalty (crowns) to be provided. You'd think they would value the business and long term treatment plan. Tonight the office manager repulsed me. I shared the sentiment with her just before I explained I was going to share my experience. I called and never received a call back regarding the cancellation today, out of a 8+ hour day, she couldn't call me to confirm. So on my commute back to the city I left another message and just received a callback at 7pm. She was happy to reschedule my appointment, but demanded a prepayment for said services. I'm sorry, this to me is absolutely unacceptable and down right degrading. I've never had issues with payment or my routine care. The treating you like a human, a patient, and a long term relationship, it became transactional and fiscal. When I first came here. Couple years ago, I didn't like the office manager. Rigid, rude (in the guise of professional and proper), and transactional. I was a brand new patient and after my first visit I told myself I will not be returning. I didn't, the next cleaning was back to my old practice. Oddly, I returned because I liked the dentist. If you want to feel like a number on a piece of paper, with a practice that is lacking flexibility and understanding, be treated like a transaction, by a relatively Blasé office manager. This is the practice for you. I think she must push people away because the way these guys get new patients via marketing partners and incentivizing, leads one to believe the word of mouth referrals are weaker than desired. Word of mouth is your best channel here guys, and the word I can preach is far from ideal. So read this, try it yourself, or do yourself a favor and check out some other amazing dental offices and dental spas in Lincoln Park. They are on a busy street and parking can be a pain, so just another con to the lack of personal care. There are better options. The worst was when she said they are opening early for me, as justification, when the hours are 9-6 which was when I was due in. read more

Pure Design is incredibly clean, modern, and equipped with the latest state of the art dental equipment office. Summer did an incredible job with my teeth cleaning today and I couldn't be happier. She explained everything to me and gave me some wonderful tips on at home hygiene I should follow. Absolutely everyone in the office is charming and I continue to be impressed by their professionalism and friendliness. Dr Diehl has done Invisalign for me and my smile is now picture perfect. In my case Invisalign took a little longer than the original estimate, but those extra trays and appointments didn't cost any extra money. It was an excellent value. Recently they needed to work on (a couple more) cavities. What I used to think of as a stressful experience was quite easy. The color matching to my real tooth color is expert. More importantly the entire experience was pain-free. Everyone from Dr Diehl to the office manager Dorethy who is charming and detail oriented to my skillfully conducted cleanings performed by dental hygienist Summer have been stress-free, worry-free and most importantly painless. I was a patient here, off and on due to insurance and job changes, for three years. I have ALWAYS appreciated the services, professionalism and courteousness of the Pure Design Dentistry staff. Dr Diehl is one of a kind! This is why I am so perplexed with my review of today (it has been 5 stars previously). Because of my demanding work schedule, whenever I have to go to the dentist, I have to take sick time or vacation time. For that reason I have had to reschedule several appointments in the past because-work comes first. I have NEVER blown off an appointment. I always have tried to see if I could get an evening appointment, or Saturdays but that never is an option. Quite naturally I don't want to spend 3 of my allotted 10 vacation days in a dentist chair. The last time I needed to reschedule, Dorothy who is normally very nice, sighed heavily and said 'We're going to have to charge you for the cancellation!' What cancellation? It was a reschedule...and I called 24 hours prior to the appointment! Really?! I have pleaded for a later time and expressed why. I have seen on the website that they offer later hours, but those hours don't seem to exist. When I expressed that I needed to find another dentist cause I couldn't continue missing work, Dorothy just said 'oh well'! Imagine that! I always paid on the day services were rendered and thanks to Pure Design, developed a wonderful relationship with my teeth and gums! It's going to be like pulling teeth to find another good dentist that has the hours I need! But I'm certain he's out there somewhere. Reality is...there is always another paying customer! My best to all that can be served by a dentist when he needs to see you and not when you need to see him! read more

I went to Dr. Diehl because I had a toothache.  I have absolute PTSD from horrible dentist visits when I was a child, so I always struggle with  going to the dentist. I have to say this was probably the best dental experience I have had and I just felt very cared for the whole time. Everything was explained to me, before and as it was happening, and I was able to relax. I ended up having to get a filling replaced, and the tooth was being quite stubborn. Even though it was a much bigger job than what we all anticipated, Dr. Diehl spent so much time making sure that it was perfect, which I really appreciated. Visited Pure Design Dentistry with some trepidation after my last visit to another practice (and hygienist) left me feeling sucker punched in the mouth (literally!!) No such issues here as the hygienist (Summer) did a fantastic job of explaining and subsequently cleaning my teeth thoroughly. Dr. Diehl stopped by to walk through all preventative maintenance (Crazy I know) that I should be doing to make sure I maintain gum health. I was unhappy with my Dentist in Chicago so I did some research and decided to give Pure Design a try since they had such positive reviews online....boy am I glad I made the change. I love how organized and efficient they are there, I filled out all my paperwork at home before I came in so I didn't have to spend too much time away from work. They also communicate the way you prefer, for me it's by email and text....love it. I felt the love from the staff from the second I walked in the office. Dorothy at the front desk is fantastic and I absolutely love Karisa, who is always in a positive mood and keeps everything on track so you don't spend all day waiting in a chair! I've been going here for almost two years now and I've never had to wait, they get you right in....take good care of you, and then get you on your way. Dr Diehl is great, he has all brand new equipment and I've never had a dentist spend so much time with me consulting on my teeth. You can tell he cares about his patients and he makes sure you understand everything he is doing during your procedure. If you need additional work he is very detailed with explaining what is a necessity and what can wait a bit, which is helpful if you are trying to stay within your insurance limits. Pure Design Dentistry is a gem of a doctor's office. The office is clean and modern with excellent customer services and a great staff. Summer was very through with my dental cleaning and explained everything she was doing and how to better care for my teeth. One thing I loved about Pure Design is they don't pressure you to get dental work done. I had a couple of issues with previous fillings and they thoroughly evaluated the issues to make sure work did not need to be completed and I need not spend money. They could have easily said it was required and charged me, but the didn't. The appointment started promptly, which for a working professional is extremely important. Dr. Diehl didn't just rush in and rush out. He went over every single x-ray and showed me every single tooth. Evaluated everything from the condition of the teeth to asking if I got headaches from clinching! He was very professional and you can tell he takes his patients dental health as his #1 priority. This is the worst dentist office I have ever been to. The receptionist refused to verify my insurance, despite me providing multiple copies of my insurance ID and my social security number. A visit for a cleaning took 2 hours which included a tour of the office- not sure why it's relevant to show me the office artwork for dental care. The dentist spoke to me like I was a child - asked questions about my medical history that is not necessary for a basic cleaning. Overall the service here is disrespectful and unprofessional. read more

So dissatisfied with the costumer service. I arrive about 10 min early for my 5pm apt and had to fill out paper work etc. and they took my license to make a copy. They took me for my appointment on time, and the appointment WAS 2 HOURS! What dental cleaning is 2 hours long? They started the appointment by giving me a tour of the facility and like telling me about their education background, Why do I need a tour of the building and know where you keep your office supplies? They took x-rays which hurt my mouth as the x-ray thing is so big that they put in your mouth, and they were training a student (which i support, they have to learn somehow), but it took so much longer and was painful. Than the dental hygienist, spent so long going over my history, and explaining everything to me, I appreciate explanation, but it is such a waste of time, it made the appointment 2 hours long, a routine cleaning 2 hours long, I have never had a cleaning last 2 hours. Also they were like being snippy at me for not being able to relax my tongue or cheeks, I'm sorry but I think its a natural reflexive reaction to tense up when someone is sticking scraping tools in your mouth and scraping at your teeth and gums, please disagree, if I am just the odd one out here. Anyways they claimed I had a million cavities and need them all filled asap, ffine but than the price is extreme. So when I said I cant afford that, they made no move to come up with a payment plan or talk payment options or reduced pricing. Where I spent like 10 min talking to the receptionist about this pricing and she basically was like thats the price. On top of all that, I noticed I couldn't find my license a few days later, when I needed it for something. So I took apart my purse and wallet thinking it fell out of my wallet, tore apart my car. Anyways my roommate makes a comment we got something in the mail from the dentist, and MY LICENSE WAS IN THAT. They chose to mail me my license after the receptionist forgot to give it back to me, even though I was there for 2 hours and than talked to your directly for 10 min after the appointment, (my fault too for not remembering she had it) but like why didn't you just call me?! It would of been ten times faster and like what if it got lost in the mail, they only put my address on the envelope not even a name to address it to. Im extremely dissatisfied with the customer service, mind you I also have not had pain in my teeth ever, or had sensitivity to hot or cold, and since my appointment on tuesday I have had sensitivity and pain when Im just like sitting (not eating anything). I cannot say enough fantastic things about Dr. Diehl and his staff at Pure Design Dentistry. Dorothy at the front desk is beyond friendly and helpful. Karissa - the dental assistant - is amazing. And Dr. Diehl of course is a miracle worker. Being new to Chicago, I used ZocDoc to find a dentist in my insurance network, and Pure Design Dentistry was one of the highest rated on the list, so I booked an appointment for a cleaning. I was immediately impressed with the modern and clean facilities. As part of my initial "get to know you" portion of my first visit, Dr. Diehl asked me what, if anything, I didn't like about my smile. I've never been asked that by a dentist before! I've had a cap on my front tooth since I chipped my original tooth as a kid, and I told him I didn't like how it was a different shade than the other front tooth. After x-Rays and a full exam, we decided to replace the cap. Long story short, I ended up with a cap that looked good - but not great. No fault of Dr. Diehl's - it's just my situation as my existing tooth was dark and showing through the cap, and it was nearly impossible to match the opaqueness AND transparency of the real tooth right next to it. The curse of having a fake tooth RIGHT in front. I went home and took photos over the next few weeks to see if I could live with it. I ended up emailing Dr. Diehl one night with a photo where my teeth particularly looked different from each other. He had me come in in the next few days and he decided to whiten my original tooth so the cap wouldn't be such a different color than the tooth next to it. At that time, we also decided to put a veneer on the other front tooth - to ensure they'd match. In no way did he try to talk me into the veneer (as they are expensive and insurance rarely covers them) but offered it to me at half price! I couldn't turn that down since I've been fighting with my two front teeth since I was 12 and wanted to not have to worry about it anymore. Plus I'm vain and wanted to finally smile without being self conscious. I just had my final appointment yesterday and I'm in LOVE with my new teeth. They're the perfect shape, size, and color and they look natural! I had the best experience with Dr. Diehl and his team. Throughout the whole process, he was incredibly responsive via email (he even called in a prescription for me at a moment's notice when the whitening turned out to be pretty painful) which really made me feel like I was high up on his priority list. The whole team really wanted to go above and beyond to make me a happy patient. And they succeeded! read more

From the initial call, I knew this was going to be a luxe experience. Dr. Diehl and staff are very helpful and caring. Special attention is paid to educate the patient on everything from the doctor's qualifications to exactly what is going on with your dental care. The front desk manager was friendly and offered mini bottled water. The dental assistant was very gentle and took extra care when taking xrays--I had a fractured molar! Dr. Diehl is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong. The office is ultra-modern, including the bathroom, which I appreciated. And I love reading magazines on architecture and design. In conclusion, no one LOVES going to the dentist, but we all should. I recently had an emergency filling and this place was the only one open on Saturday, so big plus. The service was fine, no major complaints other than they charged 600+ for two fillings on adjusted teeth. But the reason I am giving this place one star and will never go back there again is unprofessional billing. I have two dental insurance- they were not able to find either and forced me to pay cash instead of billing later then the confirmation gets back and left me on my own to deal with the secondary insurance. My now-favorite dentist (if it's possible to have a favorite dentist). There were no issues or referrals needed to get in as a first time customer...which seems to be rare in Chicago. The office and records are run smoothly, including being able to fill out all paperwork online before the appointment. They'll even contact your insurance before the visit so there aren't any day of surprises. Inside the office is clean, open, and high-tech. It's awesome! But the best part was the friendly staff...everyone from the front desk receptionist to the dentist himself knew my name (and history) as I walked in. I have never had braces, only cavities and I broke my two front teeth in a triangle when I was 10. I have had them bonded for years. However, they have always been bonded at an angle because of where they were chipped and I was always told that was my only option. As well as most recently they broke off again. I went to several dentist and had consults. Everyone told me I had to get veneers and gave very high quotes. This was the only place that made me feel really comfortable, from the staff, Dorothy the receptionist, booking the appointment, as well as Dr. Diehl himself. He did amazing work and made my teeth straight! He also fixed my current mouth guard and did not try and "upsell" me! You always want a dentist who is a perfectionists and he is! I moved to Chicago 2 years ago and was sad to leave my excellent dental care in Milwaukee so I waited to find a dentist. I waited a bit too long because by the time I needed one my teeth had major problems. I looked at reviews and found Pure Design Dentistry. It was close by my house and I had driven by it many time and always commented on the nice looking office. I called to make an appointment and it was such an easy process. The office staff is very kind and helpful, never rushing the patients through the process. I have major teeth problems and major dental anxiety to go along with it! Going to Pure Design Dental has calmed my fears and nerves because everyone is kind and understanding. Dr Diehl is a very kind person who didn't judge or shame, he just wanted to get me out of pain and move forward with a treatment plan. He is an AMAZING dentist who cares about his work environment( very clean, stylish and state of the art) and also cares about his patients. He is great at giving shots ( yup that is possible) and made me feel less anxious through the process. He does amazing work and got me out of major pain 2 times now. He treats both patients and staff with respect, which makes it an easy environment to be in. He also has relationships with endodontists and oral surgeons that are very willing to get you in as soon as possible. I know the dentist can be overwhelming, but Dr. Diehl is AMAZING !! Even if you are nervous to go to the dentist because you haven't been in a while, this is the place for you!! There is meter parking on Clybourn and I have always found a spot right outside the office. It is near the North and Clybourn red line stop( aprox 2 blocks north). They have great hours and you do not have to wait forever to get an appointment. If I could give a 6 star rating I would !!! Dr. Diehl is a HUGE asset to the dental community and to the neighborhood. I'm usually too lazy to write reviews regardless of my experience, but I must say that I found my new favorite destination to protect my smile. As soon as you step into this sleek, suave office, you forget you're at a dentist office. That is, you're greeted by the friendliest receptionist, who even gave me a tour of the brand new building. I immediately felt at ease and welcomed and not just another cold patient. As Dr. Diehl is the only dentist there, it is easy to feel as if you're his only patient! He is immediately available, his staff is extremely warm and friendly, and everyone knows your name. Yeah the climate is nice and all, but the main thing is keeping the main thing, the main thing: And that's talking about quality of the service. Dr. Diehl saw me right away. He then reviewed my intake x-rays with me and briefed me without confusing jargon about what was going on. I came in to see him about the pain I was experiencing from a tooth fracture. A previous dentist had made it seem like this was the end of the world for me, however, Dr. Diehl calmed me down and gave me a down-to-earth assessment of the situation. He taught me that not only was it not all that bad, but that the filling the previous dentist used was inappropriate for the shape of my tooth- yes the shape of my tooth. I knew right away that this guy was for real. I never head of a dentist actually paying enough attention to consider how everyone's treatment is different because not everyone has the same teeth structure and shape. No wonder why the filling didn't last. Dr. D filled it right away, explained how the type of filling he was giving me would be sure to last and how he customized it to align with the j shape of the groove of my tooth, and made sure to check in with me constantly about how I was feeling along the way. I feel amazing now! He was patient, attentive, informative, and prompt.....I true customer service is rare these days and I know it when I see it. I'm definitely coming back to him for all other future dentistry needs and would recommend him to anyone. I even was so happy, I asked for a few cards to pass around work.
