($49 for unlimited monthly pass). I have had one *awful* experience at pure barre prior where I felt completely out of shape and an outcast. This was not the case here! Although I was definitely sweating and struggling, the pace was reasonable while still challenging. Lara was an amazing instructor with detailed positioning verbal and visual instructions, great cues, and extra support with individual corrections too. I left shaky and rejuvenated, and I can't wait to see if I improve. The studio itself is beautifully designed, zen and spacious. The staff was incredibly welcoming and hospitable, a much different experience than that gosh forsaken experience at pure barre lol.

This…read morewas my first time visiting this location (I've done a few barre classes otherwise) and it's a fairly small and intimate class. They were very welcoming to new people - the instructor had me come to the front and was good about adjustments and tips. I did a Classic class which was a good total body workout (arms, legs, core, etc.) Some of the moves aren't intuitive if you haven't done a barre class before. It's a lot of micro movements and holds, my muscles were sore leaving class. They also require grip socks and will make you buy some at the front if you don't have any. Definitely not cheap, but I think they also offer free trial classes or promo rates for new members.

I enjoy all of the formats with Classic and Align my favorites. Define is a nice option and I really wish they had more Align classes, so I recommend signing up early. I notice they recently added a strength class, so I had to finally give it a try. The studio is conveniently located near the West 4th stop. Plenty of cafes/coffee shops to grab a healthy post workout smoothie/bite. You'll need to get buzzed into to go up a flight of stairs to the studio. Inside it's very serene and peaceful. The space is intimate. There's a few changing spaces with some amenities to freshen up, and cubbies for your personal items. I enjoyed the strength class and will continue focusing on those for the time being. The instructor was very friendly and engaging. Moved around the studio throughout the class and inquired about my experience post workout.

It was very cold outside that Sunday and the studio did not seem to have adequate heat coming from radiators. There were small space heaters in the space but they were not doing much. The floor was ice cold. I kept my socks on during class and my toes were still numb. I had to wear my hoodie during the entire class. I also had to lay a blanket over my mat during class. The window in the back was letting in a draft and I could feel it a few feet away. I could not focus on the class and so this class was not as restorative as I would have liked. Unsure if I would come back if this is how unregulated the temperature is all the time. I can only imagine that the summer must be stifling hot. FYI, The studio is up a flight of stairs, if stairs are an issue for you.

Classes move fast with high reps that really make you feel the burn, targeting all major muscle groups in the upper body, lower body, glutes, and core. One thing I really like about Physique 57 is that the instructors do a good job of integrating rhythm/musicality into the exercises and maintaining an upbeat atmosphere throughout class. They're also great about providing individual attention and correcting form when necessary. In terms of the studio, I've visited all 3 studios in SoHo, UES, and NoMad. The NoMad location, which just opened a few months ago, is extremely new and by far the most gorgeous and spacious of the three!

I wanted to update this since we are now about a year since fitness studios reopened…read more COVID policies have been relaxed since our city/state have been relaxing guidelines based on positivity rates and vaccination. I think they've been doing well with this and continuing to clean between classes. Masks no longer required in class. They've recently had a lot of new "deals" which is nice for regulars like myself. I really miss the annual unlimited, because I am paying so much more lately to take fewer classes. Thankfully, they're doing a summer three month unlimited -- I hope they continue something beyond that. More recently, I've been interacting with Brigid, their customer experience manager. I can really tell a difference in the quality of customer service since she's come on board -- she is very responsive and so pleasant, and she is extremely client oriented. For example, they transitioned from one fitness app to another to book classes, and it's been a problematic transition in so many ways. Not only did Brigid fix the issues, she also gave me some extra classes for the trouble. I finally feel valued for being a loyal client (there was a point in time when I wasn't feeling such a way). When there were some further issues, I reached out to her and she's been working through all of those issues with me. Can't say enough positive things about her. My only reason for dropping a star is that showers are still not back. I understood this immediately post pandemic (and they had to consolidate four studios' worth of belongings into one), but it's really difficult to schedule your day and get around the city without a shower option. I understand that times are tough, but class prices are higher than before, yet we also lack the amenities that we had before (showers, towels). Showers seem to be back at most other fitness studios. If the showers came back, I would definitely be more encouraged to take additional classes. The scheduling game is more of a challenge with this.

They made my experience here special. There are lockers, changing stalls, and a bathroom before you enter the studio (there are 2). The main one has beautiful natural lighting. When I entered, every mat was set up with the balls and cords already. The class was very intimate (just me and another person). I felt like I had a great workout and it was a great start to my day. The space of the class brings your mind to a soft meditative focus. They have a variety of classes from classic (medium difficulty), define (greater focus on core and strength), and align (stretch/recovery). I've gone to the trifecta of locations (Greenwich, Flatiron, and Williamsburg), and I think this location is one of my favorites with proximity to Union Sq trains and the open space of the studio. Awesome instructors who are very supportive. Class goes quickly since it's mixed with regulars who have often gone to Pure Barre in the past, but usually if you're newer the instructor pays more attention to your form and helps. After a few classes, you learn the regular moves + positions and you're able to get a grasp much better on how your form should be. Flatiron Pure Barre is paired in a space with Cyclebar and has a massive selection of lockers + showers, Williamsburg has great lockers (both locking and shelves) but is smaller, and Union Square has nice locking lockers and changing areas. **NOTE: MAKE SURE TO BRING GRIPPY SOCKS (barre socks) or else you'll end up paying ~$20 for the socks they have in the studio (which are nice but let's be real no one should be paying $20 for grippy socks)

For an absolute beginner, the class moves quite fast, and although I was able to keep up, there were some instances where I was a bit lost. The entire class was new, and I noticed the same thing with a few of the other participants. Otherwise, it is a good class, and I was thoroughly sore the next day (a good sore). This class works you out very well. If you have injuries, just let your instructor know, and they will show you alternative movements. It's worth a test run. Just get your heating pads, icy hot and aspirin ready.
