barre3 -- Dallas, TX…read more barre3 was the first barre class I ever tried, and it completely changed how I view fitness. I originally found it through ClassPass, and now I find myself rebooking over and over again -- it's truly become one of the biggest reasons I fell back in love with working out. What I love most is how fun and uplifting every class feels. It's this perfect mix of cardio, strength training, and balance work, but somehow it feels more like a dance party than a workout. The music, the energy, and the lighting all create a space that pushes you while still being gentle and encouraging. The instructors are so friendly and supportive, and even the owner teaches classes, which really says a lot about the culture here. You can tell they genuinely care about their community -- they remember your name, cheer you on, and make you feel comfortable no matter your fitness level. Every time I leave, I feel stronger, more confident, and more connected -- both to myself and to the people around me. It's rare to find a studio that combines great workouts, amazing instructors, and a true sense of belonging, but barre3 does exactly that. It's no surprise they're opening more locations -- once you try one class, you'll understand why!

The staff made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in the door. I got a tour of the place and a little summary of what to expect for the hour. I turned to one of my favorite pregnancy workouts: The Bar Method. Since I"m a bit of a workoutaholic and was only 3 1/2 months pregnant at the time I just signed up online for one of their regular classes. Thanks to all my work travels I've done the Bar Method many times in a variety of cities. It may have been my first time doing the Bar Method in Dallas, but figured I didn't need to waste my time with an easy intro class. However, when I arrived and mentioned to the girls at the front desk that I was pregno they gave me a hard time about not starting with a pre-natal class, which they didn't even have on the schedule for that particular day. Fortunately, I talked my way into the "advanced" class and was able to get my workout on. While I don't have much energy at 8:15am on a Friday I found the teacher to have especially low energy. I usually find that the Bar Method class flies by, but looked at my watch several times throughout this workout. I left feeling somewhat satisfied with my workout, but it was definitely one of the weaker Bar Method classes I've attended throughout the country. The studio itself was beautiful and I'd definitely be up for trying another class while in town. I've tried Exhale's* Core Fusion class, which is very similar on other trips to Dallas and found that to be a bit more challenging. And bonus points for Core Fusion because you can stick around Exhale after for a much needed massage. --------- * http://www.yelp.com/biz/exhale-mind-body-spa-dallas#hrid:WPrCTzheqs_RiFw0bqnxJA

There was no grace for this even though I cancelled before the next month began and did not attend a single class after my first month subscription. These people only want your money and do not care about you. There is no mercy for whether you can afford it or not even if you cancel before the next charge is scheduled to occur. Additionally, the classes weren't good to begin with. You are much better off getting a gym membership for literally a third of the price per month and watching the exact same type of workouts on youtube for free. The times are inconvenient, the class schedules are not consistent, and the workouts are so niche that you really have to anticipate what will happen next during every class. At this location, they overbook members to where a lot of classes I went to didn't have enough space for everyone on the floor and at the bar. The studio is small. I attended a class in Willow Park and that one was actually good. This location seems to leech off every new member and forces you to pay for your second month whether you attend or not. If you try it, be sure to cancel your second month the literal day you sign up. My advice if you really wanted to try these classes would be to not use this location. Sucks to write this because a few of the people there are nice, but unfortunately the business model is greedy and unforgiving. I feel scammed, unaccommodated, disrespected, and taken advantage of. I was charged the full unlimited amount without attending a single class. I won't be attending this location or any other Pure Barre location again.

Now in walks Bodybar Pilates and I feel like Mr. Pilates is on drugs. This ish is more challenging than what I'm used to. Oof! I sighed up for the free introductory class and attended one night after work. The process to check in was easy and the young girls working gave me the lowdown on the place and sent me off to workout. I did the classic Pilates class with Diane. She knew I was a newbie so she showed me how to adjust the reformer and tips for the class and she checked on me often to see if I was hanging in. The workout was pretty fast paced and I hung for most of it and took small breaks when needed. I haven't had a good workout like that in a long time. Flash forward to a month later and I am a member. Surprisingly this uptown location is cheaper than my place in Lakewood. You can book all your classes on the app. I haven't tried anything other than the classic, but will definitely branch out. There is free parking in the parking garage to the left of Pilates. Pay attention or you'll miss it. It's confusing too because there is an apartment attached to the garage so you may get stuck on a floor where you'll end up walking up a ramp. That would only happen to me I'm sure though. Otherwise find street parking! When you walk in you will check in to class on the iPad. Then set your belongings in the cubbies.
