Super friendly staff! I loved how intense the beginning of class was - it set the foundation for the rest.  Class was fun, energetic, and went by so fast! Oh, and the studio is spotless and spacious.  It also has a bunch of cute workout gear, so you can get your shop on before class.  There's a changing room in the waiting area and cubbies and bathrooms on the other side of the studio.  Oh, and just in case you're new to barre - no shoes here.  The studio is carpeted, so don't forget to bring your grippy socks.  And the staff is super friendly! Now, on to getting buff.  I've been around the barre block, and enjoyed the fast pace here.  For the class we used weights, a ball, and a double tube.  Also, I lucked out and there were two other instructors in the class, so we had someone to look at while the amazing main instructor walked around the room making adjustments (which were on point and private - no yelling and calling you out in front of everyone from across the room).  Overall, my arms, seat, and thighs felt the burn.  We did our abs with our backs against the wall, and since that's not something I'm used to, it'll def take a few more visits to get it right.  Also, like any barre class, it takes some time to learn the cues, so I can only imagine the burn after a few more classes! read more

Intense and strong workouts. The three stars are for this. Problem: i did the $100 first month free trial and could not go because of a health issue. Later on I was charge $200, with no notice or email receipt. I was lucky I had checked my bank account that day, or I would've had a problem. THIS IS NON-REFUNDABLE. They said I had signed something when I did the free trial that I could not receive a refund later (fine print). Very disappointed in this. I wish I would have known it was coming, and I could've done something about it. Will only be going back to finish out my $200 month. Will not come back after. read more

So, I may have been dragged here for my workout, but after giving it a try I'll continue to go back willingly :) The studio is so clean and the instructors make sure to introduce themselves to everyone in the class. I really appreciate that they are so hands on (often literally) to perfect your form and make sure you are doing the exercises safely. I also really love that the class changes each time and that they continue to keep their clients challenged. After searching high and low for a workout class I enjoy, I have finally found Pure Barre Old Town. I have tried spinning (cycling), yoga (many types), pilates and a personal trainer but never felt motivated or excited to go back. Each class is 60 minutes and is divided into shorter segments 6-10 minutes of focusing on particular areas or muscle groups. I really enjoy this, as it keeps things changing and entertaining throughout class. Since s tarting classes in late April, I have noticed how much stronger I have gotten! Class continues to be challenging and I still have a ways to go! In terms of teachers, they are all great and have their own style to teaching class. I cannot recommend any teacher over another... just take a class with every teacher! read more

I don't get it. Yes it was semi hard but after a fifty minute class, i barely felt like I had worked out at all. The moves are so subtle it's hard to grasp the concept and where you are supposed to be feeling them. Maybe a private lesson is the way to go so you could ask more questions about where you should be feeling the moves. The ones I did feel were ballet inspired exercises that are easy enough to replicate on your own at the gym sans instructor. There are too many great workout studios in the city where you can actually go and feel the benefits of the time you spent at the studio after one session or class that I have no desire to return to this location. Except for perhaps the retail section which was on-point. They had a lot of cute workout clothes and members (i learned) get 10% off. read more

On a recent trip to Chicago, I checked out Pure Barre's location in Old Town. This location is easy to get to (just a short walk from the CTA). The studio itself is spacious and has a great selection of apparel. From the minute I walked in, the staff was friendly and helpful in explaining where everything was in the studio. I like that they have an area in the back of the studio with cubbies and all the equipment. The studio I go to in MA can sometimes get cramped when you are leaving class and trying to get your stuff (cubbies/equipment are in the waiting area), so it is nice there is a separate area for these things. Anessa taught my class and is a great instructor. I would love to check out this location again when I'm in town. And if I ever move to Chicago, I would perhaps make them my Pure Barre studio of choice! read more
