I loooooove Pure Barre. I've been to many other locations, but I went to this one for the first time last Saturday. Overall, the class was very enjoyable. Upbeat, great instructor. However, it was so crowded. I felt like all of were on top of each other. The cubbies are inside through the studio - don't even need lockers! They have a little shop in the front, where you can purchase merchandise. read more

Pure barre offered the workout I needed for low impact, isometric work. I bought the 3/$20 pass to try it out before committing to a membership. I was able to try both Pure Empower and Pure Barre Classic classes, which were so fun and an appropriate challenge. I could feel the burn immediately! As a former college athlete, I am used to high intensity aerobic and conditioning exercises, but this was an entirely different technique and approach to toning muscle. Jacque and Melissa were positive, upbeat instructors who actively complimented us by name throughout the workout and helped correct form. I like the each workout has some similarities, but is not identical and repetitive. The music is motivating and the 50-minute classes fly by! This studio itself has great light. When you check in, you'll remove your shoes at the door but can carry your coat and belongings to open cubbies on the other side of the studio in the equipment storage annex. This way, your stuff is safe and there is no need for locks or lockers--smart! Dress lightly because it gets hot in there! Don't forget sticky socks for floor grip, but any athletic socks will do. You can even buy some apparel in the pop-up shop at the front desk. read more

I FINALLY found a workout I enjoy! Not only is it a fun class with upbeat music and instructors - it actually works! I really like that the classes follow the same structure but the movements change every time, so it never gets boring. And there is always a way to make it more challenging. I've been coming to classes for a year, and I can always push myself to bend my knees deeper, grab heavier weights, or try out the options to make the moves more challenging. I don't think I'll ever plateau. The instructors are so helpful too - they praise you publicly with little shout outs during the class but correct your form privately so you know you're always doing the moves correctly without being embarrassing in front of everyone. One of the biggest reason I think I enjoy coming to Pure Barre is the incredible community. All of the instructors and staff know me by name, and the other women in the classes are so friendly. I've made a lot of friends at the studio just striking up conversations before and after class, congratulating folks who reach their milestone (100, 250, or 500) classes, and attending the events at the studio such as "Wine Down Wednesday". read more

There is a reason this concept has been so successful. The classes are constantly challenging, regardless of your fitness level. As you get the hang of the postures and various muscle engagements, it actually gets harder. The variety of movements and structure of the class make the 60 mins fly by. I love that there is a general framework that the class follows- warm up, abs, arms, bar work (seat, thighs, legs), mat against the wall, floor abs, seat work, stretching. The music follows a consistent beat and all the teachers are extremely professional and able to help with form and posture without putting you on the spot. The studio is always clean and there seems to be a good community of regulars. I always leave the class wondering why I don't come more often. Sometimes I barely break a sweat, but will be sore all day. There is something to be said for this burning, pulsing, tucking, and holding. read more

I've been going to this Pure Barre location just about every day since it opened (about 9 days now). Monday through Friday I have been doing the 6 am class, and it is the first time I've ever NOT dreaded getting up that early for a workout. I actually get excited about getting on the app and booking my next class. I recently completed a marathon, and was looking for my next "thing" that would be low impact, let my knees heal and keep me motivated. This has been perfect place. To top it off -- it's a 5-minute walk from my house. Class flies by -- it's awesome. The classes are very structured and follow the same format each day. I've grown to love that I know what to expect next, but at first i wondered if I was getting a good enough workout in that way. I bought a 5-week unlimited class deal for $99, and am still debating what to do after it's up (I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of the monthly unlimited passes). If I can keep coming at 6 am though... it might be worth it. :) Overall, if you're unsure about whether or not to try Pure Barre -- just do it! There is no experience necessary, and it's amazing how quickly you can see improvements and results (I went from barely holding 30 seconds of a plank a week ago to now holding the full 90). Ashley, the owner, is super friendly and helpful and the instructors are all great. I'm really glad I gave this place a shot and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's class! read more

I would give 3.5 stars if it was an option. I can say this - pure barre is HARD. I work out 5 days a week - running and weight lifting and this class totally kicked my butt. I will definitely go back and do a pure barre class again, I'm just not sure about this location. It's Lincoln Park...so you expect that everyone one in the class will be a skinny minnie. And this was true. It looked like a lululemon commercial in there. I'm about 140 pounds and I felt like a cow next to these ladies. That being said, maybe that means the workout works? Who knows. I definitely felt the "judgey eyes" coming off of those chicks though. The class moves SO FAST. And the teacher warned me about that, but I had a hard time keeping up. I would say 60% of the time, I wasn't sure I was even doing the movement correctly and there wasn't a ton of reassurance from the teacher. She fixed my positions maybe three times? (And it should have been more like 10 times). I would assume this gets better with experience. Some tips: -Bring a towel. They don't provide any, and I was sweating horribly. No one else in the class seemed to be...so maybe I'm a weirdo, but better safe than sorry. -Get there early and try to score a seat that has a good view of the instructor and a good view of yourself. I was sitting in the middle of the room in front of the teacher, but she blocked my view in the mirror. -Don't make the mistake of running 6 miles the morning before you do this class thinking "oh, it's just strength training, i'll be fine". This place is slowly becoming my second home. The studio is small, but homey, and the instructors all have something different they bring to their workouts. Marquerite always goes out of her way to help me out with my not-so-great hips and helps with frequent readjustments. It's incredibly pricey, I won't deny that-but I'm 15 classes in and about 12 pounds down...no complaints here. I can't say I agree with the 'lululemon skinny minis' comment previously; there's a combination of body types in most classes. Every fitness studio is going to have a snob or two but I think overall the girls who attend these classes (at least 4 that I frequent weekly) are very friendly. read more

LOVE this place! I heard of it through a classpass membership and really enjoy going. I plan on purchasing a package once my other membership is over. Margurite is my favorite instructor. She's SO helpful, friendly, and is genuinely really good at barre. Highly recommended. The workout itself is awesome. I can always feel the burn afterwards and during and it's nice because I'm not covered in sweat when I leave (compared with spinning or hot yoga) 5 Stars. I'll definitely return. read more

I am a big fan of pure barre classes, and saw a major change in my body, posture and flexibility when I started going to classes regularly. I have gone to 4 or 5 different Pure Barre studios in Chicago and when I have traveled to other cities, the Lincoln Park studio is by far my fave. The layout of the studio is great, all the teachers are knowledgeable and helpful and the staff are super friendly. They also periodically have awesome events and promotions at the studio. I joined Pure Barre Lincoln Park a year ago and I couldn't be more happy with the workout or the studio. I feel comfortable there, the other clients and teachers are all warm and friendly, and it's clean and bright. Yeah, it's pricey. But it's worth every single penny. The previous comment about the Lincoln Park skinny minnies is so not true. I'm a mom of two closer to 40 than 30 and I was 140 lbs when I started Pure Barre, and I never felt out of place in the beginning. No one is giving you judgy eyes, they're all working so hard they don't have time to even look at you, let alone judge you. That said, I'm not 140 lbs anymore - and I have Pure Barre to thank for that. Marguerite has received a lot of shout outs which she deserves. She's probably at the same time the hardest teacher and the best at explaining the technique, which meant I loved her in the beginning when I was a newbie but also continue to to this day. But Marguerite is not alone. I will miss someone in this list but Melissa, Amanda, and Ashley G have just flawless classes - they never miss a beat. Lexi has some of the best energy of any of the teachers and her music always rocks. Katie, Laura, Jacqui are all awesome. I used to love Brittany's classes until I got too lazy for 6 am classes. My advice to you if you are considering Pure Barre is to sign up for a month and go at least four times a week. Always get there early and get a seat at the front bar (with the mirror). Your inclination is to get in the back where no one can see you but honestly being up front right by the teacher and the mirror is your best bet for picking up the technique. Stay after class and ask for some additional guidance on some of the moves you may have struggled with (I still do this over a year in!). And just enjoy. It's a fun workout, never gets old, and has amazing results. Pure perfection. read more

What, me rate a Pure Barre anything less than five stars? I signed up for a Platform class using ClassPass, and several days later got a random email from Pure Barre telling me everything that was awesome about the class I signed up for. Yay! Then, at the bottom of the email I find out everything that was not awesome about me having ClassPass. Basically, I couldn't take the class I signed up for. That's fine, and I've had a number of classes cancelled on me before, but I've always received email notifications from ClassPass, not emails to my personal email address pressuring me to cancel the class. Here's the thing, first, the email said there was a class change. That was a lie, since even my first confirmation email lists it as their Platform class, which is what it ended up being. Then, when I said it was no prob and to just cancel me out, they refused and told me to do it, arguing that I had to do it on my end. I even got to hear about how other people cancelled without an issue. Ok, so now you're messing up my schedule and letting me know I'm the problem. Here's the thing, I already took leave so I could attend the class, so as far as I was concerned, I wasn't going to cover up their screw up. Luckily, I contacted ClassPass, forwarded them the email chain and they handled it, while letting me know Pure Barre was totally in the wrong. Oh, and the second ClassPass contacted them, they all of a sudden were able to figure out how to cancel me out on their end. Shocker. What sucks is the whole experience soured me on this location, and I'm way too uncomfortable to ever try it again. Sad face. read more

I am in love with Pure Barre and participated in classes in Okemos when I was in college. When I came to Chicago, I was looking for another Pure Barre studio that had the same family feel that my other studio offered to me. At the Lincoln Park studio they know you by name and genuinely care about you and how you are doing in classes. The workout equipment is always clean and the studio is always a warm and welcoming place. The owner is amazing and is always open to feedback. I typically hate working out. I am a marathon runner, and running is pretty much the only exercise that I enjoy. However, I knew I needed a workout that will help strengthen some of the weaker parts of my body. When this place opened up, I bought the opening special (a month at $99), and the people that work there have been SO friendly and helpful. It's very intimate, and I appreciate how the staff really wants to get to know their customers. The small class sizes are great for hands on assistance. Most importantly, it is a great work out. I hurt for days afterward...but that good kind of awesome hurt. It's not impossible, and I feel the class feeling strong instead of dilapidated. Definitely give it a try if you are looking for a new kind of work out. The cost is certainly a factor, though, as it is difficult to shell out the money on a teacher's salary, but I can definitely already feel some results, so it really does leave me wanting more... read more

My ass has never felt so on fire in a barre class as it did when I took Melissa's class Monday at 7p. She had me burning and was excellent with her instruction. The studio is small. they have a bathroom but no shower. I was sweating like beast, so a shower would have been nice. If you have done barre before, you will be satisfied taking classes here. If you haven't done barre, be prepared to burn muscles you didn't know existed. read more

I have been a Pure Barre go-er since 2012, moving from studio to studio as I moved cities and states. I just recently moved to Lincoln Park and I just LOVE this group of teachers! The studio is just a couple blocks from my apartment and going to class is now part of my daily routine. The teachers are always integrating new/difficult routines to keep it fresh, lots of double tube which I love! As a a physical therapist, I feel that pure barre is one of the most comprehensive and safest total body workouts out there. It really focuses on posture, body mechanics, and recruiting important muscles that protect you from injuries! If you live in the Lincoln Park area, I highly recommend giving this workout a shot - it's great for your primary exercise, or even just a cross-training workout a couple times a week (re: runners!). -Katherine read more

Everyone who worked there was incredibly friendly and welcoming and took the time to help me, especially as I am fairly new to Barre.
