It's about time I left a review for The Barre Code- I have been raving about this place to my…read morefriends and family ever since I discovered it through ClassPass in August! For the longest time I had told myself I would start some sort of fitness routine but I had never found anything that I enjoyed enough to stick with. I've tried a few barre classes at other studios before finding The Barre Code, which is truly unlike any other studio I've been to, and has motivated me to actually want to work out. My favorite part about The Barre Code is that the classes are held in studios with dim, blue/pink lighting. It makes me feel more comfortable because 1.) it's dark enough to not feel every physical insecurity being perceived by others, 2.) bright enough to still see and focus on yourself, and 3.) it feels almost like a bar/club with the upbeat music and fun lighting, which puts me in a good mood to feel MOTIVATED to move around and do the workout. I have loved every single instructor I have taken here so far, they've all been extremely welcoming and helpful with correcting my form and offering modifications to make the workouts more or less challenging. Bridget, the owner, is also really sweet and I can tell she is passionate about her studio. I also like the variety of classes they offer (I recently tried Brawl for the first time and that was such a drastic change from the Barre classes I'm used to; I look forward to eventually trying Lift+HIIT and Sculpt+Flow as well)! I know this is a super long review but I just wanted to share my experience and encourage others to try a class out at this studio (if a standard Barre class is intimidating, try Barrestore!). I've been returning for 2 months now and could see improvements in my body's physique and stamina during the workouts. 1000/10 would recommend a million times over

I love, love, LOVE barre3!…read more I haven't taken many workout classes but this is by far my favorite, and I'd definitely go back. I tried the first class free and then signed up for the unlimited classes for two weeks for $69. I thought that was a great deal, and I went 4 days a week. All of the instructors were amazing, lively, and really gave the best workouts. I really appreciated the differences in each class that each instructor brought. I think my fave has to be Kerri, though! She's so nice, vibrant, and lively. It is a great workout, really pushing your muscles to build that endurance. The signature and strength classes are amazing. Taking barre has taken my fitness/weight journey to a new level. It's been the first time I dropped in body fat percentage since I've started working out. This is truly the first time I've considered signing up for a membership at a specific studio, but memberships are just a little too pricy. Love it, though! I'm going to have to figure out how to get back into these classes.

I enjoyed the class but forgot about the studio until I saw them again on Groupon. I purchased a 3 class pack and have really enjoyed this studio. The workout is a good mix of cardio and barre. It's the perfect blend of isometric holds to work the muscle and moving them. Too, the people are just fantastic. Lisa, the owner, is so sweet. I sprained my ankle after buying a class pack, and she was able to extend the expiration date for me. All the instructors are helpful and attentive during class. I often get self-conscious when working out, but the other patrons I've chatted with have been so friendly and encouraging. This is a gem of a studio!

The staff and instructors are so welcoming and friendly, and they have such a calm and cool vibe. I like that they like to check in/chat with students before/after class, and they are just so nice. I've taken the Wednesday and Thursday evening Zen Vinyasa classes (unheated room), and it's exactly what I was hoping for! It also was populated but not crowded which was great (though I can't speak to other days/times). I had Angel as an instructor both times when they were subbing for someone else and I really enjoyed it! Angel has a simultaneously soothing and strong voice (in the best way for a yoga class) that is great for motivating students during class and I love their inspiring words and playlist that begin and end our classes. The studio itself is cozy yet spacious enough to have multiple rooms for various classes and a lounge area in the center with lots of comfy pillows and a coffee station. I see people hang out there and it makes it feel like a community vibe. I like that there are lots of hooks, hangers, benches, and lockers in the front and back of the studio and in the actual bathrooms/locker rooms so it feels like there's plenty of space to place your things. It's also very clean!

Unfortunately, both times I have come here there has been music playing throughout the entire session. Not ambient instrumentals but whole entires songs with lyrics and bridges and choruses and stuff. And not very good ones. I personally cannot focus on the words of the instructor or my breath and body with tacky lyrics being pumped into my ears. I come to the mat to cultivate focus and presence, and I find it impossible in this space. This place is definitely for someone, but not people who are sensitive to noise or enjoy a more traditional yoga practice. Much love.

Barre Code overall is such a great workout, and I love its variety of classes and encouraging instructors. Mallory was encouraging and does a great job. I don't like that we have to bring keys with us into the studio; the keyless lockers in the River North location are better IMHO. There is also no cell service. The studios are very small - at least mine was. This made the class a bit frustrating insofar as I was worried I would be kicking my neighbors. I wish some of the people were told to move more to the front to spread out. The space is already too small for the amount of people who signed up, and jockeying to find a spot is frustrating. Being nervous about encroaching on someone's space or, worse yet, hitting them is anxiety provoking, and I don't want unnecessary anxiety when I'm trying to do a great workout (who would?). I would also recommend turning the lights down a bit in the studio - other locations do, and it feels a bit cooler!
