At the Michigan Avenue location, a couple of the instructors are rude. In an interval barre class, I injured my lower back.

I've gone to 2 more classes and yesterday's was with both of my daughters .. which truly made my so happy to have something Right in our community that we can do together . For woman in mid life like me .. modify the exercises , slow them down , stop when you need to ... but keep going . I hurt uh places where I didn't know it was possible .. but I know it's working . Strength and flexibility are the bane of the game at my age and the variety of classes provide just that. Now the staff .. pretty young .. but all super friendly and wonderful . Disclaimer: this rating is for the sales experience, not for the actual studio classes/workout…read morespace. I created an account on the Pure Barre website as I am exploring options for studio Barre classes while on pause with my gym/health club membership during July. Over the course of only a few days I have been getting daily calls or texts inquiring about scheduling my free foundations class. I have taken classes on a drop-in basis at other PB locations in the past, however this overzealous selling experience has soured me on even walking through the doors of this location to take a class. Another lesson learned.

Raise your hands if you like workout classes! I was introduced to Barry's classes by a friend and…read moresince then I'm obsessed! They have amazing workout regime and definitely impactful strength training classes. I've attended Sean's Run X Lift classes for upper and lower body and loved both of them! Sean is my favorite trainer!! He is super motivating and I love his sassy comments throughout the class. I usually opt for Double Floor(DF) where you can skip the treadmill and just use weights all class! What I don't like about Barry's is that they're a bit unfair to ClassPassers lol. The credits required to signup for Barry's through ClassPass is usually on the higher side and even after using those credits, you are not guaranteed a spot for DF as they are limited. Also, their only Lift classes are almost blocked for ClassPass and one can never sign up for them! I am hoping they increase more slots for ClassPassers as I definitely would like to try more of their workout regimes! P.S. They also have free massage gun stations outside the studio from Theragun which you can use pre/post workout, which is really good and I don't think I've ever seen that before!

Soooooo....lets talk about Barry's I am in love. I have never been until now. In the 90s I remember…read morehearing about it. But I was still young so of course I would not be able to attend. Now as an adult I took a solo trip to Chicago and saw the fitness studio. Nostalgia came running towards me and I booked it. My first class was on my 34th birthday and I went every day since on my trip. I love everything about it. From the friendly staff to the facility. Staff was friendly, inviting, and motivational. Shot out to Holly, Katie, and Spencer they know how to push you and make you feel so proud of yourself and rewarding. Personally I had been feeling extremely depressed for about 6 months about my body and my capabilities. Let me tell you this was the best thing I could have done for myself to gain back my confidence and abilities in physical fitness. I felt and feel more capable and the self worth and low self esteem about my body has stopped. They made me feel capable and strong of so much more than I gave myself credit for. Thank you to everyone at Barry's you truly touched my life and I am forever grateful. I'm sad and dark times you inspired me and made me feel worthy again. Thank you!

I've recently started getting back into fitness and working out, and was looking to tryout a few…read moreclasses before I commit to anything. SWEAT was offering a 7 day free trial for new customers which I found very helpful. They have a range of classes that target specific body parts, like the Arms & Core workout or the Butt and Legs workout. They offer classes almost every part of the day including before and after work hours. I even saw a few classes that start at around 5:30am. They have two different and convenient locations around the city and I believe you can attend classes in both location if you are a member, but I'd call and ask just to double check. My first time was at the Gold Coast location. It was a little confusing to get to at first, but when I saw a bunch of people in sweats and gym bags going down to a basement, I was able to finally locate the studio. There is no front desk or anyone to greet you upon entry. I had no idea where to go or where to place my bag. I had to ask a few people before a nice lady that's a member there helped me out. There are OPEN lockers right outside the studio (and yes there's only one studio), so I wouldn't bring anything valuable just in case. They offer free towels and you can just dump them into a laundry basket when you're done. The studio itself is large and can fit about 25-30 people comfortably. It has weights, treadmills and a bunch of other workout gear that are used during certain classes. Now here's the deal - These classes are not easy pace. They go quick and it's up to you to catch up. The instructors will try their best to help you out, however, they have an entire class to attend to, so sometimes you won't be able to get the help you need. I am not a very active person, so I was not able to catch up AT ALL during the Arms & Core workout class. It seems like classes are very advanced and target people that have already been on the workout train for years. As for someone who is just getting back on track, these classes are not for you. On the bright side, they do offer personal training, so I might be looking into that. FYI - the only contact you can have with a representative is through phone or email. I was very interested in these classes before I actually tried them out, and when I expressed that to the representative through email, I was automatically charged for a membership right after the 7 day free trial ended. I was able to get a refund though, but I was a little upset that my card was charged without my permission.

Walking into the building is pretty weird as it is an empty floor with a Kitchix fridge and a…read morestaircase leading down to the gym. You walk into a lounge area where you can view an active class and see what type of exercises you'll be doing. Each day has a particular work out so that you can go on different dates and not work the same muscles. The locker rooms are a bit weird with a long hallway to hang your coats and stick your bags in cubes, not lockers. The locker room has two showers and two closed off bathrooms. They have spray deodorant, hand soap in both bar and dispenser. The room is small, so if you have a class ending or beginning, it can get crowded. There are small cubes to put your personals as well. Once in the class, they have a lot of weights, ropes hanging from the ceiling, row machines, Ski machines and high boxes to jump on. The classes are made up of intervals so you are grouped with a few people and rotate to another set of exercises. The classes I've been to so far with Joey and Ally have been tough, but great. I try to keep up and not feel intimated by the people that have been coming here for a while, but trust me, no one is looking at you. Everyone here is trying to work on their physique and at the end of this class, you are guaranteed to sweat. The music is always great and is loud to get you going. I can already see a difference with my endurance, strength and physique.
