Pure Barre just opened up today in the South Loop. They are offering free classes from July 1 to July 4th so I signed up for their first class bright and early at 8:15 with Lindsay. I had done barre once before in Washington DC and that class almost killed me. This time, because I knew what to expect, the class wasn't so bad. However, I did hear from others that this class was super hard. I guess what you get back from the class depends on your fitness level. I consider myself to be average and definitely not in shape. I could lose 10-15 pounds but you can cater the class to your level. If you are unable to do the hardest level instruction, you can modify it to what you are comfortable with. No one will pressure you or yell at you if you cannot keep up. Its okay. The class offered balls, resistance bands and mats to use along with the ballet barre. You can also add 2 or 3 pound weights to challenge yourself. They have a filtered water station if you want to bring your water bottle to fill up. They also have cubbies to put your items in while you take the class. Shoes are required to be taken off before you step on the carpet. I like that because it keeps the carpet clean since we were on our hands and knees on the carpet a lot. They currently offer a pre-opening special where you can take unlimited classes (1 per day) for 5 weeks for $99. I think thats a great deal for the type of work out barre provides. Lindsay was also a great instructor and I wouldn't mind having her again.

Hooray!! Thanks to MaZi, I've lost 17 lbs so far :p…read more I started going to MaZi Dance in April this year, so it's been almost 3 months... from two-three classes a week till six classes a week, you can tell how much I love this place. Having a wedding coming up (oh well... still 8 months to go), I decided to lose all the weight I gained during dating my fiancé ;) I started working out in Feb this year and originally just played with elliptical in my building - since I am paying assessment, why should I pay extra for gym? Of course, I got bored... at the same time, a friend of mine started going to MaZi, and that's when I fell in love with this place. Most importantly, Z-Cardio instructors - Karen, Nickie, Siobhan and others are all super energetic and enthusiastic! As each class approaching its end, I become all sweaty and start to wear the "you-owe-me-a-million-dollar" face, but the instructors are still smiling and cheering people up! Guess that's why I can never be a good instructor lol About a month ago, I started their Ballet classes :) Experience with Liz and Marisol has been perfect as well. Why I don't go to other BBB classes? Because I don't own a mat XD but I'm thinking about getting one.

The dance instructor that taught the noon class I took (Alex) was incredibly welcoming to people with a variety of dance experience (in my case, none LOL). I had struggled at first to get the hang of the moves, but eventually I was able to keep up to some extent and get a nice sweat going! I would highly recommend trying MaZi Dance if you are looking for a very fun and active way to exercise :)

I cannot say enough about how much this workout format has improved my overall fitness level. I like to say that the Bar Method is like working out your body from the inside out, using isometric movements and breathing techniques. You will workout every inch of your body and, in time, you will become leaner, stronger, and have increased flexibility. There are a variety of classes that will challenge you and leave you in better condition than before you walked in. Further, the owner of this studio and the staff are very knowledgeable and caring and the clients benefit from their expertise. You cannot go wrong with the Bar Method! KMW

I'm currently taking advantage of their new client special, and it's honestly such a great deal for anyone looking to ease into the Bar Method experience. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a challenging, low-impact workout in a positive, community-driven space!

Barre Code overall is such a great workout, and I love its variety of classes and encouraging instructors. Mallory was encouraging and does a great job. I don't like that we have to bring keys with us into the studio; the keyless lockers in the River North location are better IMHO. There is also no cell service. The studios are very small - at least mine was. This made the class a bit frustrating insofar as I was worried I would be kicking my neighbors. I wish some of the people were told to move more to the front to spread out. The space is already too small for the amount of people who signed up, and jockeying to find a spot is frustrating. Being nervous about encroaching on someone's space or, worse yet, hitting them is anxiety provoking, and I don't want unnecessary anxiety when I'm trying to do a great workout (who would?). I would also recommend turning the lights down a bit in the studio - other locations do, and it feels a bit cooler!

For the longest time I had told myself I would start some sort of fitness routine but I had never found anything that I enjoyed enough to stick with. I've tried a few barre classes at other studios before finding The Barre Code, which is truly unlike any other studio I've been to, and has motivated me to actually want to work out. My favorite part about The Barre Code is that the classes are held in studios with dim, blue/pink lighting. It makes me feel more comfortable because 1.) it's dark enough to not feel every physical insecurity being perceived by others, 2.) bright enough to still see and focus on yourself, and 3.) it feels almost like a bar/club with the upbeat music and fun lighting, which puts me in a good mood to feel MOTIVATED to move around and do the workout. I have loved every single instructor I have taken here so far, they've all been extremely welcoming and helpful with correcting my form and offering modifications to make the workouts more or less challenging. Bridget, the owner, is also really sweet and I can tell she is passionate about her studio. I also like the variety of classes they offer (I recently tried Brawl for the first time and that was such a drastic change from the Barre classes I'm used to; I look forward to eventually trying Lift+HIIT and Sculpt+Flow as well)! I know this is a super long review but I just wanted to share my experience and encourage others to try a class out at this studio (if a standard Barre class is intimidating, try Barrestore!). I've been returning for 2 months now and could see improvements in my body's physique and stamina during the workouts. 1000/10 would recommend a million times over

It then moved to 1 class for the monthly fee. This is a little pricey considering the fees for the other studios in the area that offer adult classes. If you took ballet as a child and want to get back into it and grow, I would not recommend this studio. The training of the teachers they select for this class is wishy washy. Sometimes they have teachers that are professionals or former professional dancers, which is great. Sometimes they have teachers that trained as a dancer so they took ballet classes, but ballet isn't their thing, or in the case of 1 person they would use to sub doesn't even like ballet. I signed up for ballet. I don't want a hip hop fusion or jazz, but ballet. There doesn't seem to be any mentoring of the younger teachers so they can grow and develop. I don't see the younger students exhibiting studio etiquette. Also not sure if it's even taught to them. When I was a young student, when the class ended, you needed to gather your things and leave and the class helpers made sure you were with your parent/guardian. There's a lot of lingering so the next class starts very late, but still ends on time, so we are cheated out of time and money. They also need to be more transparent on their money practices. They would sometimes randomly cancel class or breaks in the middle of the month, with no mention of giving a credit unless you specifically call or email to inquire. If you don't inquire, they have no intentions on offering a remedy.
