I can't even explain how much I love Chi50! Chi50 is such an amazing workout and they have the other things I love in a workout too. 1. Calm, supportive atmosphere with modifications so you don't feel defeated when a move is really hard 2. Great music 3. Individual corrections with the microphone off so you're not embarrassed 4. A great workout for every single muscle group every single time. You will work muscles you didn't even know you had. 5. You don't get that sweaty. I've been doing Lagree for many years now. I was in Chicago with family over the holidays and really wanted to keep up my workouts. Through googling and yelp, I found Chi50 Chi50 is located in a popular neighborhood that's fairly easily accessible. The classes are 50 minutes and the instructor I took had amazing transitions! She modified the moves so that you can flow through the moves easily. Grip socks are recommended but not required. Luckily, this worked out well for me since I was traveling and didn't originally plan for it. read more

I love Lagree workouts. I started doing them about 3 years ago and for the last 2-ish years I've go to class pretty much every day. I was staying at my friends apartment about a mile and a half from here and had convinced him to take a Lagree class with me even though we'd been out till 4am and class was at 8:30. I couldn't convince him to run to class with me, but maybe next time. Gotta keep it tight and it wouldn't kill him to experience a little physical fitness. We get there and the studio is beautiful, the first class in only $10 or $15 bucks, and the instructor was really nice. The studio is hella spacious. Anywhere else would've tried to jam in more machines. The Chicago-themed wall art was sooo cool and I was happy to grab a machine close to it so I could get a better look while doing side planks. The class was challenging but I think the instructor took pity on my flailing friend and eased up for him. It was both sad and hilarious to watch him. Oh and at the end when you do the cool down exercises he just laid flat on his face the wrong way on the machine like a real dill. This has nothing to do with the class but it was just really funny and I'm sure all the other people in the class thought he was some hobo off the street taking a charity class. I felt really good afterward and even though we were mega(former) hungover and going off 4 hours sleep and some sub-par late night Lagree worked its magic and brought at least one of us back to life. If I lived in the area I'd come to workout here everyday but since I'm across the country I'll just have to settle for whenever I'm back in town. read more

I may have a small obsession with CHI50. I've been coming to classes consistently for about a year and a half now and I've never felt or looked better. I've had back problems for as long as I can remember and my Dr. recommended taking up pilates or something similar to help with the pain, which is how I found CHI50. I'm going to clarify though, that this is definitely not pilates. While some of the names of moves are cutesy like "Sexy Back", you are essentially performing fundamental strength training movements with spring resistance instead of weights. You will see lunges, squats, hamstring curls, pistols, shoulder presses, bicep curls, flys, you name it. Each class has different combinations/variations of moves and in different orders, so you are never taking the same class twice. If something is too easy/hard there are always modifications or you can adjust the spring load for your level. The instructors are all great, and the class sizes are small so don't worry if you are new or unsure how to do something, you will get personal attention. The best part is when you have taken a few classes and you start to learn the different movements. It's fun to zoom across the machine and transition fast, it really gets your heart rate up. If you are a guy... this is not an easy or "girly" class. I've brought a few guy friends who were... surprised at the difficulty. I would definitely recommend everyone give it a try. read more

CHI50 is the best and I'm NEVER going back. After moving to West Town I needed to find a new studio as Studio Lagree in Lincoln Park was too out of my way. Enter, CHI50. After my first class with Elia I was hooked. Not only was Elia super welcoming but every class felt different and challenging where I was learning new moves on the reformer with smooth transitions. The studio is bright and clean and has free filtered water, towels and multiple changing rooms (no shower though). I also have to admit, I'm obsessed with the owner Cheri who is an incredible person and teacher. You can tell she cares about this studio and has brought over some of the best instructors in Chicago to join her. I've also taken classes with Karla & Glenn and they have been great too. I actually find Glenn pretty hilarious and love that he helps adjust my form. Highly recommend any newbies to try the Megareformer as you will not feel intimidated. They are also on ClassPass so a great way to try before committing to a package. Pro tip: There is a car wash spot across the street close to Zen Yoga and I've dropped my car off there to get washed and they have valeted it for me after. I would also note that there are restrictions parking on Milwaukee on weekday mornings so be careful. read more

The studio is new and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the experience left me with a sore shoulder, a stiff neck, and I ran home to do some mckenzies to save my back. Anyone who is serious about form and physiology would be very disappointed with this workout. The machine is really difficult to work with. The carriage is a big padded mat with no shoulder blocks or headrest. There are no grippy pads provided, but grippy socks are required. Imagine trying to do a plank, in grippy socks, on a pulled out carriage with no shoulder blocks. Needless to say, it was impossible to maintain a decent form and I was going into my back and neck just to do the exercises. I found the spring weights inappropriate for most exercises and was adjusting most of the time. There was no instruction on form and very little mention of it, and no correction. The lady next to me was there for the first time and poor thing had her shoulders at her ears the whole time. If nothing hurts and you want to sweat and make a couple of muscles sore, this will meet your needs. But if you care about injury prevention, want a whole body workout, and want to train your muscles into proper form and good posture, you would be better served by any of the great pilates studios in the city. read more

The best megaformer studio in Chicago! I used Class Pass for a couple years and have bounced around other megaformer studios (Pilates Proworks, Body R&D and Studio Lagree) and Chi50 is by far the best! The owner, Cheri, is super nice and welcoming, as are all the instructors. Last year I decided to ditch Class Pass in favor of attending classes more consistently. I've been going 4-5x a week for the past 4 months and I've notice MAJOR toning and definition in my arms and abs; my stomach has never looked this good. As a marathon runner, my legs, hips and glutes have never been stronger. Chi50 is totally worth the investment. Each class is challenging and each instructor is awesome. I had a Friday instructor at 5 pm that I can't remember the name of, Glenn and Elia, and they all put together a great workout for me. If you're looking for a challenge, this is the place to go. I started coming here regularly a few months ago. I previously did crossfit for 3 years and suffered a bad back injury earlier in the year. Ever since then, I've been searching for a workout regime that would fit not only my schedule and injury limitations but that made me feel strong and like I consistently got a great workout. I wasn't able to achieve that balance until I found Chi50. I'd never really done Pilates and didn't quite know what to expect but it is a fantastic whole body workout. The mega reformer takes a little getting used to if you've never used one but by my third class I felt confident with it. The instructors are all fantastic. They have all been happy to help me find modifications when I need them because of my injury. Each instructor has their own style and every class is different. I haven't had one class that I walked out and didn't feel strong, accomplished and tired! I even brought my husband and he thought it was really hard and was sore for days! This place has totally filled the void that I had from not being able to do crossfit. After having tried a few other studios via class pass and while traveling I realize just how amazing Chi50 is. Cheri, the owner is just awesome and the studio itself is clean, modern and the machines are new and really nice. Not all Pilates studios are created equal. Get that ass on the Megaformer bandwagon! Seriously, my abs have never looked better. Anyways, this is a gorgeous, airy space with ten shiny and new Megaformers just waiting to kick your ass. The second that I saw Glenn, my fave FlyBarre instructor, was teaching here I immediately booked class, and I am so glad I did. For those who don't know, a Megaformer is pretty much a pilates reformer on steroids. So, if you feel like you're not getting enough of a workout in your pilates class and would like to bump it up a notch, this place is perfect for you. The megaformer offers a numbered, much larger carriage, and additional padded surfaces at both ends. There's also a number of added handles on the ends opening up a ton of exercise options. Now, I've done Megaformer classes before...and to be honest, I wasn't really feeling it. But here, they've got it nailed. Glenn perfectly sequenced the workout so I wasn't bored, and the resistance and exercise intervals were perfect. I was wiped out afterwards, but I never felt like there were too many springs on - important, because with this machine I feel like it's really easy for instructors to push you to go too heavy, compromising form, risking injury, or literally, just increasing your chances of falling the fuck off. But seriously, Glenn is the best - infectious energy, the perfect cues (using those carriage numbers to perfectly guide us into proper form), and smart. After class I asked him about a move that has irritated my hips for years, and with a simple suggestion the prob was solved (no joke, I tried the move again the second I got home).
