I called and they asked me to drop off the car to take a look and confirm that it was the water pump which they did. They quoted me a number that I was happy with so I gave them the go-ahead on the repair. They called the following day to say it was ready to go and my bill had come in well under the quoted number (saving me approx $130 under the quote). To date, a year on, no leaks or issues whatsoever with the repair. I am definitely satisfied with my experience at this location and am actually headed over to discuss another issue with them this week.

They then refused to acknowledge their mistake even though the evidence discovered when I returned home by my regular mechanic is undeniable and scary. It's not an overstatement to say they allowed me to drive away in a car that should not have been on the road. It was a safety hazard to me and other drivers. They exacerbated one of the worst periods of time in my life. Their shoddy work cost me a lot of money, paid to them for my "repair" and then fixing what they broke when I returned home. I had them put a new transmission in my Tahoe & after I picked it up I noticed it was making a noise I had not heard before and the noise was not there before I took it. I took it back up there, they looked at it & said, " Gary thinks the starter is what is making that noise." "They checked the bolts and everything looks good and is tight." "The starter might be getting ready to go out on it." "Gary thinks the noise might go away." Also, Gary told me over the phone not to worry if it was the starter because it didn't seem bad enough to go out anytime soon, so don't waste my money...I though, Ok cool, whatever. Well, the noise never went away. I took it back up there because they were going to take my old level kit off and put a new one on & I told them that it was still making the noise. **NOTE** I only was taking my vehicle at this point to get the old level kit off, and new one on. When they called & told me that my vehicle was ready and they put a starter on and my total was $781.22..I about passed out. Which, I knew the level kit and the labor would be around $300 which was fine. But I never gave the "OK" to put a starter on my vehicle nor did anyone call or ask me. I went up there & paid my bill and got my Tahoe back & I knew something STILL wasn't right with it. I took it to another mechanic shop that I knew to get a second opinion. -THIS IS WHERE IT GET'S GOOD!- The mechanic from the shop I took it to said "You have got a BIG problem!" LONG STORY SHORT...The mechanic at Boyd's was having trouble putting my transmission in and I guess didn't want to ask for help and he jammed the transmission in which caused the evap line to break, oil pressure sensor to break & the fuel line brackets to break, along with some other stuff. AND COME TO FIND OUT THE MAIN REASON I NEEDED A NEW STARTER WAS BECAUSE BOYD'S MESSED IT UP WHILE PUTTING MY NEW TRANSMISSION IN! The starter failed because the misaligned transmission, and they knew that but of course they were not going to admit that that's what it was since I had to take my vehicle back there for THEM TO FIX the evap lines, fuel line brackets, etc. (Boyd's had to pay the other mechanic I went to for replacing my oil pressure sensor and filter) So, They knew they messed up and were going to fix it. I took my Tahoe back to Boyd's the next day & they fixed what they messed up (free of charge, of course) And I asked for a refund for my starter & labor putting it on (I didn't even know I was getting the starter put on in the first place) and I only needed it because they messed it up putting the transmission in wrong. And Gary told me No, he want not going to refund me. He tried to blame it on something else. But the funny thing is there was nothing wrong with the starter before I took it and I have pictures and video proof of everything that was damaged. The starter & labor, with tax included was $410.22. Gary didn't want to be out anymore money than he already was because of having to pay the other mechanic to replace a few things on my car and then having to pay one of his mechanics to come in on a Saturday to fix my car & out all the "parts". That's not how you run a business and I would be ashamed. Not to mention, NO ONE EVER CALLED ME FROM BOYD'S to apologize for the mess up and inconvenience (I was without a car for a while). But like I said, I have the videos & pics of all the damage and what he didn't replace on my vehicle that his mechanic messed up. Karma always wins. See ya around! DON'T EVER TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS PLACE, I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO THE PEOPLE THAT TOLD ME NOT TO GO IN THE FIRST PLACE! THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!

It's a given that Sonny has the skills and expertise to do the work...but it goes way beyond that. The story behind how I've come to know this business and the people who are building it becomes anecdotal in nature but meaningful to a far away college student/family. Our daughter is a MSU Vet student and it is required to have a vehicle to travel to the farm for class/work. The car is typical of what you would expect, solid...but from time to time has issues. Until we met Sam and Sonny...we were just hoping her car could get her through to graduation. Hope is not enough when the car had other plans for making dramatic tales of failure just in time for finals/class/lab and work. Sonny and his wife Julie have truly stepped up and have treated my daughter on par as they would their own kids. They understand the need to work with the college kid, and the parent footing the bill. Cars, like anything, will wear out and break down over time. When they do, a good and honest mechanic is a gift. Not only did Sonny and Julie handle the mechanical issue, but also helped diagnose what did NOT need to be done. This shop could have run up a bill on the transmission (which can be typical) but instead gave realistic expectations, checked out the rest of the car and only did what was necessary to make it safe and reliable. And with an old car, as much as could be reasonably expected! Local retail/commercial/campus garages have in large part been horrible to students. Not just to my daughter (before meeting Sam and Sonny). In short, dismissive and rude(knowing the parent and "wallet" isn't available). To our dismay there was a noise coming from the transmission and the last thing we wanted to do was ruin our new engine with an improperly joined transmission. Note: we are not mechanics and have very little experience working on cars. We watched a lot of YouTube. So I looked for a local transmission shop as the one I have used in the past is no longer in business. I read the review of I S. and knew Sonny's was where I was going to send my truck. I had a similar experience when my daughter was living and going to school in Pensacola. I found a guy I felt I could trust at a PepBoys and he promised to take good care of her 10 year old car as I couldn't make that trip every time she had a problem. Despite having a parking lot full of cars he had to work on, Sonny was able to check my transmission out pretty quickly and found the noise was coming from a protective plate over the catalytic converter that had come loose. He tightened that up, put new end links on the front sway bar that I ask him to do, and that was that. No more noises and my truck drives like a new one. The charges were very reasonable and I am very happy. I now have a place to take my vehicles when they have their issues. Thank you Sonny and Julie for a great experience. By the way, I live in Murray, not California, but I don't see how to change that.
