Wow I'm so impressed I called this restaurant asking if they had bread quesadillas. The guy that answered said yes just one . I asked go save it for me. And he did very beautiful restaurant and very authentic Salvadoran food. In Perris Ca. Great customer service. Thank you.

fresh and made to order. skimpy filling though, sigh.

This was one of several recommendations that came up in my query for pupusas. Albeit quite the distance from the nest, I decided to give this place a go. The shopping center is a place of old and new and parking is abundant. I came right before the dinner crowd, so there was a wait but not too painful. Service was prompt and friendly. I ordered 3 pupusas... jalapeño y queso, chicharron, and asada y queso. All were made to order and fresh. The curtido was somewhat limp and had slight heat. So why the 3 star? Ya wanna check your order and receipt before you leave... I was too excited, yo I didn't realize they charged me a revuelta pupusa I never ordered and didn't receive. Dang. Oh, there is an added $.50 for credit card use... If this was a jump skip, I would've come back to correct and get my money back. But 24 miles round trip is just too far.... yea, I'm completely undecided if I'll be back. Sigh.

Came here as this is the closest place to our new place and it did not disappoint! It's a small hole in the wall spot but the cooks know what they're doing! My husband and I came here for a quiet Friday evening. 3 out of the 5 tables were occupied. It's a good ambience too. The food was delicious. Pupusas were not greesy and the atol de elote was sooooo good! We will be coming back for sure!

We were in the mood for pupusas and this place was nearby. It's located in a shopping center that has Cardenas and other smaller shops and food places. Upon entering, the place is small but seemed clean and well lit. The pupusas were pretty big in size, thick, authentic and made to order. We waited about 20 min to get our order. I had the revuelta and chicharon with cheese (pictured). We also got 2 chicharon. Both came with sauce and curtido. I felt like they were a bit bland and pretty tough as though they were over cooked. It took a few tugs to finally bite all the way through. If you come here I would suggest calling in your order or ordering online or you will have to wait awhile.

Had the chorizo and cheese pupusa with curtido and it was delicious! The tamales here are one of the best I've tried so far.

Popusas are delicious. But that's the only thing I will order. Pricey for what it is.

I tried to place an order and they hung up on me while placing the order! I think it's very rude of the employee to hang up! Do better!

Been coming here since their previous location and realized I never left a review…read more The best place for pupusas and tamales. Honestly? Everything I've tried from here is great- from drinks to soups, everything is phenomenal. Staff is extremely friendly and the ambience is always top tier. My favorite local spot ever.

I have a confession to make. The last time I ate here was when El Comal was on Mission Trail in…read morethat tiny little building with just a few table for diners before the disastrous fire destroyed El Comal 1.0. Since re-opening in their new location several years ago, I never ate there again (work schedule) though my wife and sons would take our out of town family to eat here often. This past Saturday, I was craving some really tasty pupusas and suggested to my wife we have an early dinner here before heading to Balboa Park-San Diego for an evening concert. We arrived around 1530 hours and honestly I was expecting that El Comal would be in that quiet period from just finishing their lunch service and prepping for their Saturday night dinner service. I was so wrong. The parking lot was full and when we walked in the place was full of happy customers. We were warmly greeted by a friendly hostess at the entrance desk who advised us there would be an approximate 10 minute wait for a table. We agreed and waited hungrily. We were soon seated and our server Brandon quickly took our beverage order: a frozen strawberry margarita ($11.00) and a soda (4.00) for me. We looked over all of the tempting items El Comal's menu offered but we finally settled on: 1-Taco Salad w/meat ($16.00); 1-#12 Combo (1-Chicken Enchilada & 1-Chile Relleno) $17.00; 2-Spinach & Cheese Pupusas $6.00 each ($12.00) Pre-Tax/Tip Sub-Total: $60.00 My wife tried her margarita: just by her initial expression, I could tell that El Comal's bartender was not stingy with the booze. Her cocktail was very tempting, and I will definitely have to order one the next time I'm here and not driving. One thing I observed is soda refills were never offered. A complimentary small basket of fried tortilla chips and a kinda watery, mild salsa was brought to our table. Despite the watery salsa, it still had nice flavor to it. Just wish it had a little more body to it. Soon our entrees arrived excep tfor the pupusas. I'm thinking to myself,"That's ok, I'll polish off my combo plate and then scarf down one of the pupusas, because that combo plate won't fill me up. My wife's taco salad was huge and very generous with all the fixings that went inside the salad. My cheese enchilada and chile relleno were very tasty. The accompanying refried beans and rice were equally good and I joined the clean plate club that afternoon. While the amount of food of the combo plate looks kind of small, it wasn't. Once I finished the combo plate, I was pretty full by tiem the pupusas arrived from the kitchen. I wanted to have a small taste so I ended up cutting one of the pupusas into quarters and my wife and I each savored one quarter. My wife has a cousin who dated a Salvadorean. She told us the pupusas and cabbage slaw here reminded her of her exe's grandmother who would offer "J" homemade pupusas with slaw which she always greatly enjoyed. We really appreciated Brandon's attention to detail whe he brought us a couple of to-go containers: he thoughtfully provided a small bag of that wonderful cabbage slaw and a small container of the sauce, both used for eating with the pupusas. I'm glad to see El Comal rose from the ashes and continue to present great service, hospitality coupled with great tastng food and cocktails in their present location. I promise to eat here more often moving forward.

But today I called in advanced placed an order was given 20 minutes for my food to be ready. I showed up right at the 20 minute mark and waited an additional 30 minutes. Order places 4:13pm Got there at 4:33 Didn't get my food until 5:03 It wasn't even freaking busy! I'm not sure if they can't handle how many items are on their menu and when to make them but that alone just ruined my experience there today. Will probably start going somewhere else. I hope they can make a better effort to prioritize and meet their over the phone pick up times. I'm fine waiting but almost 1 hour total for 4 pupusas is ridiculous.....

The pupusas were amazing, especially the queso con loroco. I ordered the plátano with two pupusas, and it was a great, satisfying meal. I saw a couple of reviews mentioning wait times and if you know anything about pupusas you know it takes a while to make them. They're made fresh because they can only be made to order. Have some patience and give it a try. We will definitely be back!
