Camp Run-A-Mutt Point Loma - My pup loves coming to camp!

Once again I'm back to sing the praises of this spot…read more This past week I used their boarding service for the first time. I had a family emergency and had to leave town very last minute, like I bought a plane ticket at 5:30am that left at 8:30am kinda last minute. I was so nervous about leaving my pup behind but as soon as I got to Camp I felt better. He loves everyone there so much and they are so sweet to him. I rushed in with a bag full of food and supplements and no time to leave instructions for any of it. The staff, particularly Dakota (thank you dear!) was very helpful and understanding of my situation. She even helped me find a good spot to leave my car so I could Uber to the airport. They took care of everything for my dog so I could focus on getting home to my family. While I was out of town I was sent pictures and updates of Smooch daily and of course it was so great to be able to watch him on the mutt cams! I also love that it's all cage-free. I couldn't stand the thought of my sweet boy being in a kennel all night and I much prefer him sleeping in a giant cuddle puddle of dogs. If I didn't already absolutely love Camp Run-A-Mutt I definitely would now. I feel like it's been about three years I've been bringing Smooch here and I have never had a bad experience. If you are looking for a daycare with exceptional staff and friendly dogs, this is the place for you!

My fiancé and I are going on a long trip for Christmas and we needed somewhere to board our dog. We…read morewere recommended Camp Run a Mutt to board our corgi. Having heard that they booked up fast for the holidays, we took our dog in early July to have a temperament test which he passed. That same day we paid the deposit to hold our spot at Christmas. I called in November because I had a feeling in my gut something was wrong. Thank goodness I did because when I did call, they told me that they did not have our dog listed to be boarded Christmas week, despite the fact we had already paid a deposit. Fortunately, the worker I spoke to was able to add him to the list. We decided to bring him in again in order for him to get used to camp again before we left for a week. My fiancé dropped him off early, and I began watching the cameras to see him interact with the other dogs. He is a corgi, so he immediately was running around and attempting to herd the other dogs (the zoomies if you will.) Fifteen minutes after my fiancé returned from dropping him off (mind you we were both watching the cameras & seeing him interact with the other dogs) we got a call. They informed us we needed to immediately come and pick up our dog because he was having "anxiety" and "being bullied by the other dogs." They also informed us he was having issues with his recall. (Again we were watching, and while I don't discredit how they felt, it was clear from watching our dog he was merely playing chase.) At that time they informed us that he would not be able to be boarded unless we could come and drop him off for two additional temperament test. Mind you this is three days before we are leaving the country. They also said if our pet sitter who was watching him dropped him off and he did not pass the temperament test on the day she dropped him off, we would need to pick him up. Obviously this was not an option for us as we are literally leaving the country. To say we are disappointed and frustrated is an understatement. Thank goodness, we were able to find a friend to watch our dog for us. It felt as though they truly just wanted to get our money and did not give our dog an opportunity to calm down and get in the groove of being at camp as he was there for less than an hour. It also felt as though they refused our dog because they didn't have enough workers. While I appreciate they gave us a full refund we will not be returning nor can we recommend this location.

Walter is our new English Bulldog pupperoni (11 months) who loves to be around other dogs, though still learning Ps and Qs. We wanted to find a new daycare for them and came across this lovely place on yelp. I emailed them to set up a visit and they were very nice and accommodating. Everyone is sweet, you can tell they love our animals and they are professional. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and were able to check out the play area from the window in the lobby (also watched the video on their website) and they let us into the suites area since there were no dogs in there. When Ruth stays for the day, she stays in their suite and probably loves the break from Walter. Walter goes into the playgroup with the other pups. They asked for all the vaccinations and will ask for updated vaccines as well, which we love and feel very comfortable with. We know we stay up to date with everything and we want to be sure our pups are around other pups that have everything updated as well. We love the report cards. Especially since Walter is so young, we like to see how he is doing with the other dogs. I added some of the pics from their recent visit. Just look how happy he is and Ruth loves the big suite and comfy bed. We are very happy with this wonderful daycare.

So much in fact that Yoshi now recognizes the street they're on before we drop him off at daycare and he gets excited! Precious Pet Care checks all the marks for us: they're kind, attentive, close by (bonus points!), and they offer an extensive amount of services that are far beyond my imagination. Who knew my dog could get supervised socialization in an intimate setting, get groomed when needed, and get dropped off by their Magic Pink bus? I mean, I can't with all of this cuteness! I also appreciate that they're flexible with accommodating Yoshi, especially since our work schedules are a little crazy sometimes. Their end of day report cards are also so thoughtful and I look forward to reading them every time. There are many great doggy daycare and boarding spots to take your pets to, but Precious Pet Care is top tier and by far the happiest we've ever been with pet care services. Yoshi looks forward to many more playdates with the pack.

Jennifer is incredibly professional and absolutely knows what she is doing, and she's definitely a cat whisperer. Since we had just moved to SD, our cat was still really freaked out about everything in the new apartment and constantly hiding under the bed. Everytime ANYone came over she would hide the entire time. I was so anxious about leaving her for a whole week just after moving here with how poorly she seemed to be doing in the new place. Jennifer came over for our first meeting, and our cat came out almost immediately to meet her, which was just the first amazing thing that happened. In addition to that, everything Jennifer told us about her experience and how she runs her business sounded perfect. Upon hiring Jennifer for the job, I finally felt OK about leaving for our trip. During the week we were gone, she sent us updates with the best pictures after each and every visit, and was super communicative and responsive to a last minute schedule change I had. After we came back from our trip, we were completely amazed to find that our cat was no longer scared of our new apartment. She hasn't hidden once since we got home. Usually when we come back from a trip our cat is upset with us and more skittish, but she seems even happier and more comfortable than when we left. In fact, I think she misses Jennifer!

She lets us know if she notices anything abnormal. Once our dog got very sick while we were at work and Jennifer let us know and suggested we take her to the vet, then she stayed with our dog for thirty minutes to monitor her until we made it home from work. We can tell that she really cares about our dog and that our dog adores her. Honestly, we couldn't have a shepherd in an apartment without the help of Jennifer. She's reliable and kind and we are so thankful we found her. Thanks, Jennifer!!

The standard "suites" are kennels with plastic doors and are not soundproof, so dogs constantly hear other dogs barking or panicking unless you pay extra for an upgraded "suite" (similar to setups at the San Diego Humane Society). Webcams are only available in the play areas unless you pay for that upgrade, so there is no way to monitor your dog while they're in regular boarding. Playgroups are divided into "large" and "smaller" dogs, with "smaller" defined as up to 45 lbs -- something that is not clearly communicated or written on the website. I saw a golden retriever in the small dog group a one point, which raises serious concerns about how size and safety are handled. The facility is understaffed. At times, I saw one employee responsible for both kennel areas. There were piles of urine and feces left in play areas, dogs running through them, and periods where dogs were not actively supervised. The large and small dog areas face each other with only the fence to divide them, which creates unnecessary reactivity. Most concerning, my dog came home with dried urine and feces stuck to his belly and paws. When I brought it up, I was told "that happens sometimes." It took me an hour to fully bathe and brush him out due to matting from laying in urine. The kind staff unfortunately does not make up for the lack of cleanliness, supervision, and transparency issues. For a business of this size and reported revenue, these conditions for the dogs and employees are unacceptable. Update: After I posted this review, the manager, Jasmine, contacted me and claimed my dog's condition was due to "aggressive behavior." However, he was only there for two days, and no aggression was ever communicated to me or documented in his report cards. When I questioned the lack of documentation, Jasmine simply said, "Sorry about that." If his behavior had truly impacted his care, I would have expected immediate notification and written documentation -- not an explanation offered only after I raised concerns about him running into doors, stumbling, and having urine and poop all over him.
