You get a great view of the staff through their window making the pizza using good technique and an authentic pizza oven. The pizza itself was pretty solid. Most of them are served individual size. the crust was moist and flavorful which I liked as I usually don't eat the crust. The cheese was pretty fresh too. The pepperoni and sausage toppings I got were kinda salty though. And it was a little too greasy, which led to the pizza flopping when held. But overall the food was pretty decent. read more

We love Pupatella! Super authentic Neapolitan-style pizza. We get the pepperoni most of the time, sometimes I'll add olives, peppers or onions, but what I don't love is that you're limited to only 4 toppings at a time, including the cheese. The dough is super thin and it makes sense to limit toppings to not make your pizza fall apart, so I guess it's ok. We love dining out on the patio when it's nice; local staple for us, for sure. read more

Answering pickup/delivery phone calls is an essential part of being a pizza joint. I called 4 times all with a few minutes in between to ensure that maybe the line wouldn't be busy or they would no longer have a customer in front of them. I went ahead and drove there to place my order instead of ahead of time since they're only 10 mins away from me. When i arrived, the place was empty. So..why was no one answering then? Placed my order and it took about 20 mins to be ready. I ordered two paninos. I've ordered one before and it was a full sandwich(not even panini style) so when i confirmed it was two in the container & i was told yes- got home and opened it to see one. Called another 2 times when i realized- still no answer Brussel sprouts were decent & the caprese salad was dryyyy. I could've made a better one at home. The mozzarella was tough. It's supposed to melt in your mouth. Margherita pizza was good though! I'll stick to the pizza next time read more

Wow! The pizza here is truly from Naples. I'd bet a whole pie you cannot tell the difference. The layout of the restaurant and ordering process can be a bit overwhelming, but the staff is there to help make sense of it all for you and they are as friendly as can be! If you have pizza from anywhere else in Arlington, don't tell anyone. Keep that embarrassing secret to yourself. Even your closest friends and family will (and should) make fun of you if you go anywhere else. read more

An unwelcoming experience on a weekday night as we trekked in the rain to welcome the new pizza joint to the neighborhood. Host with the beard has an overpowering sense that he's right and doesn't belong in the service industry! We decided to finally stop by in a night where the line was not out the door but they were still pretty busy! The greeter explained that we are to order at the counter than be seated and she said it would take about 20 min in line to get the food then 20 add min to be seated. Indeed it did take 20 min to get to order, and we got the mushroom truffle white pizza and pepperoni. At that point the nice hostess told us that we would be seated in the main dining area right away, so we decided to go for a bottle of wine! Sweet! Evening set! Or so we thought.. As we went to pull the chair back, the bearded host comes up to the hostess and TELLS her, in our face I might add, that that table is only for 4 people and they are seating another family that was BEHIND us in line. Mind you, there's tons of couples seated at the tables. So he walks us out of the main dining room area, I still wasn't catching on, and said we can sit at the 4 seater high top that is squeezed against the wall with lots of foot traffic from people waiting in line, door constantly opening on a cold day. My boyfriend finally said something about wanting to sit in the main area, and he said that'll be a 40 minute wait!!!! He then asked the host, is it right that we have to wait 40 minutes while the family who came in behind us get seated right away? The host then says, is it right that the family has to wait 40 min? He tried to guilt trip us into not taking a seat that we were seated in.. what kind of service is that? Oh and the other family got seated 5 minutes after we finally sat down so our guilt trip lasted about 5 minutes. Man, I love pizza, but I didn't eat pizza for a month after this experience. I also love supporting the local businesses but this is the last time I would go to Pupatella's. I'm not working my butt off to spend my hard earned $$ arguing Draconian logic with a snotty Arlington brat and treated like a 2nd class citizen. The food verdict: crust is authentic, chewy, bubbly/toasty. The pepperoni was perfect bc their tomato sauce is delicious! I will say I was not a huge fan of the mushroom pizza, it needed a stronger garlic and truffle flavor (cut through the Brie) and the wine sautéed mushroom was a little too overpowering. Needed a little sweetness, maybe caramelized onions. I was underwhelmed the first time (@ Wilson Blvd) and still underwhelmed in my second experience bc there's still better Neapolitan pizza in the DMV. read more

The pizza is really good, I'll give them that. The mushroom white pizza was topped with slices of brie cheese which were a delicious sophisticated touch. The mushrooms were normal mushrooms which were approachable for a 2 year old. Actually, my 2 year old ravaged the pizza - she had almost half a pizza, far more than she could've been reasonably hungry for. That said, we arrived just after the lunch crush (which seems to have all arrived at the same time for a birthday party) so we ended up waiting almost 45 minutes for our pizza. That same 2 year old was tearing down the walls waiting for everyone else to get their pizzas. Thankfully you can watch the pizzas be assembled which entertained our 2 year old for approximately 5 minutes. I was also glad they had high chairs for our kids to sit in. I was surprised though that they didn't offer family sized pizzas - just individually sized pizzas. Is that Sicilian style? My husband and I would drive / walk / jog past here every day and wonder when they'd finally open. We almost got here during soft opening, but they were closed early :/ Nonetheless, we have been here almost weekly since it opened because it's currently walking distance to us. Even during this isolation period, you can order delicious pizza online for pickup. We've had just about every pizza on their menu. The best ones imo? Classic Marguerita and their meatball pizza. Stopped in tonight for dinner with my family, and the staff was so accommodating for our larger party. The service was super quick and the food came out fresh hot and delicious. Some favorites were the meatball pizza and the panzarotti. This is a definite must try! The cocktails were awesome as well, they were featuring a martini special for only $5. Best pizza in the area! My husband and I have been on the hunt for a good Neopolitan pizza after a trip last year to the Amalfi coast. We discovered Pupatella during quarantine and have been ordering once a week it's so good. We prefer this location to the Wilson Blvd (pizza tastes slightly better for some reason). The crust is phenomenal. My favorite is the Buffala Bianca (I also add mushrooms, which are marinated in wine and SO good). We also get a bottle of Gragnano, since wine bottles have been on sale -- it's a bubbly, dry red that goes great with pizza! read more

Some of the best pizza in the area if you're looking for Neapolitan style pizza! The crust is so pillowy with some chew to it and the dough is just *chefs kiss* The toppings are great as well! We try something different every time and have yet to be disappointed. The cheese on the pizza is generally delicious especially if you get the buffalo mozzarella as well. They often have special pizzas which are fun to try. There's also a Nutella pizza which is quite enjoyable and has apples on top to add a bit of tartness to contrast with the Nutella. read more

They dont do that so I asked for half and half, they dont do that either) My friend got a pepperoni with spinach and chorizo. They bring it out to your table and bring you water as well. Yay! Hubby and I eagerly awaited Pupatella's opening a mere 5 minutes from our place, and couldn't be happier with our first experience. We happily trekked to the original spot in N. Arlington, so this location is dangerously convenient. As of yesterday, they accept take-out orders which is awesome. There was a short line when we arrived, and the restaurant itself was packed and lively. We ordered 2 pizzas - 1 Calabrese and 1 Sausage and Onion - and an order of arancini balls. Wait time was 15 mins or so, but we passed the time watching the pros make and bake pizzas! I love anchovies, so the Calabrese was a no-brainer for me. Right amount of sauce, airy crust, and perfect combo of toppings. The anchovies and olives made for a fairly salty pizza, but it was delicious. Hubby enjoyed his sausage and onion (added pepperoni), and we agreed that this location is just as good as the original. Will definitely be regular customers. Also, they serve gelato! Parking is limited in the lot, but it's possible to snag a street spot. read more

We had a very unfortunate experience with the service. It started out OK, but towards the end, I looked over from the patio where we were seated and our waiter was walking away. I suppose I should have guessed it was nearing the end of his shift because he did try to rush the check but we were interested in dessert. Not long after bringing our dessert he left, with no notice to us that someone else would be taking care of us. The waitress who remained was cleaning tables and then squeezed past us three times emptying the glasses in the bushes. I appreciate not wasting water, but why would you dump the water of other customers immediately next to a customer who is eating? When we did decide to leave, I had to call her over so we could pay the check because she never bothered to check in with us despite being the only table occupied on the patio at that point. And when she did bring the check she just stated the total as she was walking over to us and never let us see the bill. With the lack of attention I'm pretty sure we could have just left it unpaid. It soured what started out as a fairly nice experience on the patio. The only complaint with the food is that one of the pizzas ordered with anchovies seemingly had no anchovies. Great pizza place and very happy with the new location! Mozzarella balls and eggplant fritters were awesome. The eggplant outer shell was nice and crispy with some interesting cheese inside. Both pizzas, the onion tart and the DOC were as advertised, nothing but compliments for both. We'll be back to try some more variations! Yay! Pupatella finally opened nearby and I am SO glad I tried it! My husband and I stopped by Pupatella on Sunday around 12pm for lunch. As we walked in, the restaurant was packed. Regardless of how busy the resultant was, all staffs we encountered were very friendly and accommodating. It took some time for pizza to come out since they were extremely busy but my husband and I didn't mind waiting since it was OH SO YUM! We can't wait to return to try more pizza! read more

They offer true DOP Neapolitan pizza although you can get them without the DOP rigidness. The pizza had the right char on crust. This particular pizza was too meat heavy for my taste but I don't hold that against them. The crust taste was slightly plain tasting for a true Neapolitan. Try the bread. It was amazing. read more

We recently held a private event at the Pupatella in South Arlington, located on Walter Reed Drive. Some of the best features of this location were the casual, yet private event space, option for a buffet-style dinner (which allowed our guests to sit down to eat and/or mix and mingle), the accompanying bar, and the great parking availability. Josh, the General Manager, and the Pupatella team were great! Josh was very responsive with the communications and coordination; and he helped me put together the ideal buffet-style service and menu options. The pizza was amazing, of course, and some of the other highlights - as reported by several guests - were the meatballs and mozzarella balls! During our event, the service was wonderful, including the attentiveness and responsiveness of the Pupatella staff; and although there were other patrons seated outside, and regular to-go orders being served during the evening, our event and guests received the attention and service we desired and appreciated. We will definitely return to Pupatella for a great Neapolitan pizza experience and/or when we have a need for a casual, comfortable private event space! read more

I ordered two pizzas for my family which is typical for a family of four. What arrived was two miniature pizzas which is a good substantial meal for one. I spent 50 bucks on a meal for myself. I called the restaurant to say I think I got the wrong size and the 26-year-old bimbo said that yeah I should have ordered more . I will never order again from this place and I would suggest not ordering again because they don't care . They are for people with more than sense. It's economy is going through a hard time now and we don't need to be wasteful with dollars . I don't see them making it through the hard times if they continue this practice. First and foremost, pupatella for neapolitian pizza fans, is LEGIT. Slightly crisp but chewy crust, sweet marzano tomato sauce, buffalo moz, it's just a perfect pizza. By far the absolute best pizza I've had! I could not get over how amazing the crust was! It is almost like a light fluffy naan bread pizza. I tried the caramelized onion and bacon pizza with a white sauce and cheese. It was beyond delicious. I also tried the pesto with nuts pizza which was good as well but nowhere near the onion bacon one. They have converted part of the parking lot for outdoor dining. They seem to take covid very serious which I truly appreciated. They also have a decent amount of beer as well! read more

Decided to pick up some Pupatella yesterday to help with Wakefield's UMG fundraiser. We put it on our order online (on their website) and set it up for pick up. Ordering was incredibly easy and the food was done in like 20 minutes. Signage was very easy to understand. We got two custom pizzas, Brussels sprouts, bruschetta, and arancini balls stuffed with sausage and cheese. Love everything but the brussel sprouts. They were soggy - I prefer crispy. The bread for the bruschetta was extra crispy which I prefer but my husband had a hard time eating it. Overall, we would order again. read more

Standard business model for a trendy wealthy area, overpriced with lower quality. It is a production line to sell as many pizzas as possible claiming real traditional values, backed with a trendy hip atmosphere, where profit motives appear to have exceeded the values of those long gone. About a year ago, I noticed the cheese at a Pizza chain was different, I asked about it and only received uncertainty and guarantees the product was the same. I did some research and found the answer is in the word product, not cheese. With the cost of cheese rising many producers have altered their cheese production to include fillers. Pizza cheese no longer appears to be stretching mozzarella but a sort of manicotti blend that appears artesian. Is it really a derivative of cheese cut with fillers? I wonder if this pizza joint bases their cheese recipe on grandma's home made recipe or just clicks the cheapest selection on the US Foods website because it is cheap. In the end, I do not know what products are used in their pizza, I just know it is not what I knew or want. Perhaps, it is the real deal and I was just deceived as a youth. Everything about this visit for the first time was so complicated.....from ordering to being seated to ordering extra sauces, to paying for services. By the way you get a sample size amount if you order extra sauce and you're charged an 1.00 and if you try to pay with cash they don't accept it and make you pay with a card!!!!! My panini was stale so I had to ask my friend for a bite of his pizza which was delicious by the way the standard of protocols make the dining experience so dreadful.
