This is a smaller (but growing in number of vendors) farmers market easily found off route-1 and in…read moretown hall parking lot of the town of Scarborough. Here you can usually find what you need for your produce needs between two to three vendors that primarily do produce. Since it's small you don't always have the most choice to "shop around" on costs, but it's all fresh! Other tents have gourmet jams, loose leaf tea, breads/baked goods, pasta sauce and maple products, meat, beauty products/soap and fresh cut flowers among other things you can usually find as well. One thing that I can't find here that disappoints me is any delicious local cheese or other dairy products so don't count on finding that. Bottom line: worth stopping by to support local and get some good stuff!

Anyways, numerous vendors gather in the field owned my Crystal Farms to sell their veggies, fruits, meats, frozen meals, breads, mushrooms, seasonings, yogurts, pastries, flowers, and items handmade by a seamstress. While you meander among the tents you can listen to fiddlers or singers while sipping coffee from a local coffee truck. Just make sure to grab a scone or cookie to nibble on with it to complete the experience. There is also a flower garden across the street that you can walk over to admire.

Went during Maine Maple weekend in March and previously went in Fall…read more First, I sent them a message on Facebook and they quickly responded. I'm obsessed with their maple chapstick and bought 4 more! So nice and great customer service. They had a stand with Maple Iced Coffees and Maple Cinnamon Buns and I think hot coffee and hot chocolate. The coffee is brewed with maple so we got one iced with cream and one iced with cream and shot of maple syrup. The coffee was so flavored with maple already I didn't need the maple shot. It was sooooo good. Of course we bought the bag of coffee (it is Benbow's from Maine). They sell lots of Maine Maple goodies. Maple syrup (obvi) but they have a specialty bourbon barrel version as well that makes a nice gift. Their Maple whoopie pie is prob one of my Top 3 fave whoopies in Maine. We bought other goodies..maple cotton candy, maple fudge (which youcan freeze), maple taffy, maple cream and wax dipped cheeses. All the little stands took cards. During busy events they had local police stopping traffic for you to pull out and direct where to park. They also had 2 Porta potties on site.

Upon arriving, we saw all the beautiful Christmas trees for sale and were immediately greeted by a very nice young man who asked if we'd ever been there. He welcomed us to check out the store and that there was complimentary mulled cider, apples, and fresh-popped popcorn and coffee, and a whole sitting area to enjoy it in. We purchased their own Cryovacced beef and sausage, some fresh veggies, homemade baked goods, and some cider. The staff was AMAZINGLY friendly! As we were leaving, my children saw some very small broken Christmas tree twigs in the parking lot and wanted to take them home for the ride so they could smell the pine. Another young man called over to me and said he had a better piece for them than what we found on the ground and he gave them a large branch! It just made their day! Then, my daughter saw the horses and he invited us to go and look at them. It was such a gorgeous setting and we really enjoyed everything we purchased. The sausage is out of this world!!! I'd drive 5 hours just to purchase it again!

It's been a decade plus since my original review, so I thought I'd update it!…read more Since then the PFM on Wednesdays is now *also* located in the picturesque (and much easier to park in) Deering Oaks from mid April to late November, 7am to 1pm (while the winter market takes place only on Saturdays inside on Stevens Ave from early December to early April, 9am to 1pm). From the Portland Farmers Market: " Featuring over 30+ Maine farmers. From artichokes to zucchini, if you can grow it here, you'll probably find it IN season and fresh! Also eggs, meat, cheese, milk, ferments, flowers, fibers, honey, and more! Farm products exclusively." Yes, it is all things local in beautiful abundance! I like that many of the vendors are the same from Saturday to Wednesday; but there's just something slightly more lowkey about the Wednesday market. It's a smaller crowd, a more relaxed vibe, the vendors are unhurried and have more space to chat, and it seems like more locals are intentionally out to shop/support their local farmer. I usually know exactly what I want when I come here, but it's nice to be able to slow down and take time to really look around without being bumped into/having to worry about something selling out.

Cute tiny tomatoes…read moreand big juicy ones of different colors and varieties; eggplants; cabbage; garlic and shallots, and something called torpedo onions; tons of peppers, both to eat raw in salads and cook with (check out those purple ones!); super-fresh summer corn; herbs and flowers; dill pickles. I also snagged some blueberries and radish microgreens. I'll be eating verrrryyyyy well for the next several days, that's for sure. While you'll find a larger selection at the bigger Saturday market, when it's peak produce season like it is now the tables will be overflowing with goodness on Wednesdays, too. And it's just a bit mellower, and always easy to find a place to park. All of the vendors are happy to talk with you about what they're selling and I enjoy that as much as everything I bring home! Practicalities: bring cash, because even though several vendors do take cards, not all of them do and there's usually a $10 minimum. Plus, cash enables you to spend a few bucks at several different tables if you want to (I mean, why not try a tomato or two from each?). And bring your tote bags to load up, to save on having to use any plastic or paper (which most vendors do have in some form). Most of all, just enjoy strolling through the park and seeing all the bounty on offer, and know you're supporting Maine farmers by buying local.
