We came here on the Saturday before Maine Maple Sunday and it was much less crowded as I have seen it be in the past but we enjoyed it very much. It had a play area for the children to play on farm animals to look at and pet .. I got to rock out with some live piggies and feed them some hay and I was as happy as a pig in ...... We loved the sample shack of course where they were taking some fresh ice cream and poured an abundant amount of maple syrup over the top of the dessert and it was more than magical it was delicious. The price points were great and the selection was plentiful. The only drawback at this time was there was not a ton of people showing me how things were done and walking me through the process of the farm. But I am sure they had a bunch of people showing the way on the big day of Sunday. Had a great time and would recommend anyone that wants to taste deliciousness and sweetness that the trees provide.

    Welcome to Merrifield Farm!

Friends and I came here for Maine Maple Sunday and it ended up being our favorite stop of the day! Was it busy? Sure. But it was Maine Maple Sunday held on a Saturday of Easter Weekend and it was gorgeous out. What else do you expect? I can only speak to Maine Maple Sunday, so if you're coming for that - come early. Park on the street, and walk down. It's basically like a mini Fryeburg Fair here. There's a petting area for some of their farm animals, there are steer driven hay rides, an old ice shack to examine, old time maple syrup boiling demonstrations,... and lots of samples of maple syrup, maple syrup on ice cream, maple cream, maple butter, and maple cheese. (They also have a pancake breakfast if that's your thing.) ((Also, it's important that you know that despite being insanely busy, everyone working here was really, very pleasant making my group feel quite welcome despite having way more samples than we were probably supposed to.)) If you were smart, you would get yourself some very dark maple syrup, some maple smoked cheddar, some maple cashews, and some maple needhams. Get more than you think you're gonna need. Yes, it's expensive, but who cares? Your money is literally going directly back into the pockets of these hard-working farmers (who make our great state so special). Also - in a couple days when you realize you're out of needhams and need more and can't because Maine Maple Sunday is 361 days away, you're going to regret not stocking up. See you next year?

Wonderful ambience. Our first Maine Maple Sunday! We arrived at 10:30 a.m. The vehicles were lined up on the side of the road for what seemed 724 miles. We will arrive much earlier next time. A beautiful farm set in the hills of Gorham, ME. Mr. Merrifield was at the sugar house greeting everyone with a warm and kind smile. The grounds were clean. There is livestock on the grounds. A great place for kids and adults alike. There were two or three fires under 3 cauldrons with what appeared to be maple sap! We took a few minutes to warm up by the fires. There was a blacksmith around the bend from the fires. He was showing the children coal and how he forged metal. Overall, a peaceful and wonderful experience. The aromas of maple, pine, and camp fire fill the whole farm! Highly recommend, just get there EARLY! The reason for 4 stars is because it seemed a bit "free for all'ish"

We were about 1 mile up the road from reaching the farm and we started to see people walking to their cars. People were parked all over the place. We couldn't believe it. When we finally found a place to park down a side street, we thought to ourselves "WOW. Is this going to be worth it?" Turns out, it was. It was Maple Sunday and they had everything you could possibly need or want to fulfill your hopes and dreams of maple products. I will start by saying I do not eat maple syrup, so I cannot attest to how tasteful that was (everyone else in my family loved it), but they had plenty to entertain the family. They had a playground area where kids of all ages could play. We were most entertained by the seesaw. There were hayrides for all. There was a blacksmith giving demonstrations--he was very friendly. There were plenty of animals you could pet. And of course, there were tons of maple products. But mostly, there were long lines...We started by waiting in a line for hot breakfast. They were cooking out of their kitchen on a portable griddle. It was pretty impressive. Everyone in our group ordered pancakes and sausage. The sausage was absolutely delicious! Fortunately, you were able to pump your own syrup onto your breakfast tray. This seemed pretty unique given the cost of the maple products. We also may have made some homemade sno-cones with our excess maple syrup. You know..the kind that used purely white snow from the surrounding area. We walked down the hill to see two really long lines for the maple ice cream/cotton candy entrance and one to the "sugarhouse" demonstration. We decided not to wait in either. We eventually came back closer to the end of the day when there was no line. We went into the sugarhouse; it was one bin boiling and then a souvenir shop which explained why the line was so long. Everyone was waiting to pay for their items. We bought a quart of maple syrup for $19. Now, that's a good deal. They did run out of maple ice cream at one point; thankfully we didn't wait in that line. Eventually they were serving samples of scooped ice cream with maple syrup. We mixed it together and made our own soft serve. We may have visited that booth more than once. Before we left, we revisited the seesaw to have one more good laugh. This was our first year coming to this farm and given the local feel, we will definitely come back. Next year we will be prepared to wait in lines.

Friends and I came here for Maple Sunday. It was crowded and there were long lines but it was worth the wait. The longest lines were for the maple cotton candy and maple ice cream and the hot food line. The sausage was amazing, I wish I had ordered more! You order at a window that is right out of their kitchen where they were cooking the pancakes! We pet the animals in the barn, visited the sugar shack, went on the hay ride, sampled maple ice cream, and watched the black smith. All of these activities were fun, but the highlight of the day was the SEESAW!!! I haven't seen one of these at a playground in years and it was super fun for everyone to try. Good day out for the family, everyone left on a sugar high. After you walk through the sugar shack they have a small store where you can buy syrup and other Maine maple goodies. I bought smokey maple cheddar cheese, YUM!

Maple Sunday is always one of my favorite times of the year. For me, represents winter is near it's end and spring is on its way. I have dropped by Merrifield farm now for several years. I use to go when my children were young, however now I enjoy the festivities. There really isn't any parking available so you have to pull up to the side of the road and depending on the time walk about 1/2 mile to the farm. Lyle and Jo-Ann do a spectacular job making this even family friendly. There are oxen rides, farm animals to see and of course the Maine Maple Syrup which you can have on pancakes, ice cream or in several other delicious forms.

Although we have moved - this time of the year gets me excited for Maple Sunday! The best place to go for Maine's Maple Sunday is Merrifield Farm. They have activities for families including animals to see, activities for kids, and lots of maple production exhibits. They also have a wide variety of maple offerings from maple ice cream, candies, syrup, butters, and more! They also have a pancake breakfast and other food services during the day. We really loved our Maple Sundays spent here and I highly recommend it to anyone. The owner also remembered us each year which is always a really nice gesture!

The line up is an eclectic mix of Maine products and vendors. Whether you need a sweater (or her lamb), specialty vinegars (and recipes), or any other delicious housewarming or holiday present, the market offers a diverse array of products besides the organic produce and other goodies. We like providing them to our VRBO guests too. We do wish they would move Hootenanny's Bread to the south end of the market near Dharma Farms and Kelly Bros beef-- it would reduce the congestion from the long lines and make the "main street" of the market more enjoyable. The market moves indoors with fewer vendors in November-- being in the historic freight shed is a little more crowded but also cozy as the winter months progress. And our freezer is never without a Mainely Poultry pot pie or two, some haddock "burgers", or a Chase Farms apple pie. It's our kids (and their kids) favorite activity when they visit.

Grab yourself some totally goattly chipotle cheese, a few loaves from the Van Gogh of Dough, and some chicken legs from Maine-ly Poultry. And even if they aren't punny, pick up some fresh eggs, crab dip, squash, sage bundles for spiritual wellness, handmade candles, peppers of all kinds, shepherd's pie, heritiage pork, and the best jam ever. That's just a little bit of the selection. And if you tell the folks selling bulbs for your garden that you don't have a garden because you lead a sad life in NYC, they will offer a sympathetic, "Awwww." But my favorite thing about this market? There was a little kid trying to buy a pumpkin, and he dropped it. The nice vendor said he could still have it, but now it's a squash. I'm going to be using that dad joke for decades to come.

We specifically stopped here as we saw that Hootenany Bread Company was going to be there. I'm glad we got there right around 10am as there was already a line starting to form in front of his stand. We were able to buy 4 plain bagels and a couple of chocolate croissants to enjoy for the day and they were amazing! I can't wait to see him again. Every vendor there had people in front of their stands and hearing them all engage in conversation about their business was so nice. There is such a human element to this market. Felt more people focus than business focused. The grounds were clean and each vendor was placed within a reasonable distance. Didn't have to walk too far to the next and you didn't feel like you were on top of people either. Parking can be a challenge if you can't walk far, especially with the main street construction happening near Bull Moose/Tontine Mall (September 2025). But if you can find parking and you enjoy farmers markets, I would highly recommend this market.
