We're local now, so this is a year-round destination for us. In the summer it's outside in Bath's Waterfront Park (usually from late April through mid-October) and in the winter, a smaller version is in the historic Bath Freight Shed which is also home to the Maine's First Ship Museum. The line up is an eclectic mix of Maine products and vendors. Whether you need a sweater (or her lamb), specialty vinegars (and recipes), or any other delicious housewarming or holiday present, the market offers a diverse array of products besides the organic produce and other goodies. We like providing them to our VRBO guests too. We do wish they would move Hootenanny's Bread to the south end of the market near Dharma Farms and Kelly Bros beef-- it would reduce the congestion from the long lines and make the "main street" of the market more enjoyable. The market moves indoors with fewer vendors in November-- being in the historic freight shed is a little more crowded but also cozy as the winter months progress. And our freezer is never without a Mainely Poultry pot pie or two, some haddock "burgers", or a Chase Farms apple pie. It's our kids (and their kids) favorite activity when they visit. read more

Not only is this waterfront market the most picturesque place imaginable in autumn, but all the stellar vendors also have delicious things for sale AND personality to spare. Grab yourself some totally goattly chipotle cheese, a few loaves from the Van Gogh of Dough, and some chicken legs from Maine-ly Poultry. And even if they aren't punny, pick up some fresh eggs, crab dip, squash, sage bundles for spiritual wellness, handmade candles, peppers of all kinds, shepherd's pie, heritiage pork, and the best jam ever. That's just a little bit of the selection. And if you tell the folks selling bulbs for your garden that you don't have a garden because you lead a sad life in NYC, they will offer a sympathetic, "Awwww." But my favorite thing about this market? There was a little kid trying to buy a pumpkin, and he dropped it. The nice vendor said he could still have it, but now it's a squash. I'm going to be using that dad joke for decades to come. read more

Bath Farmers Market is splendid. This gathering of local food providers is a wonderful place to get so many excellent edibles. It's held on Saturday mornings in the summer & early fall, and is the first stop on our trip up from home in MA to our second home in Phippsburg. BFM plays host to several organic dairies, beef/pork/fowl farmers, vegetable growers, even an organic/veg-friendly Chinese food restaurant! This is a great outdoor venue with a lovely view of the Kennebeck River. Dogs are welcome. On a more personal note, there is a cattle dairy that sets up shop here (I can't recall the name at the moment) that has the most spectacular organic vanilla Greek-style yogurt. I could eat this stuff every day. read more

If you have not been please go and bring your guests. The ambience is great being across from the Kennebec River and plenty of seating between the water and the market. On one end of the market you have lush crispy veggies from a Somalian farmer, gluten free baked goods, beeswax candles, fresh meats and boy wait till you see the home baked pastries. There is fresh roasted coffee, crabcakes, more veggies and forest mushrooms, micro greens - now this is just on one end. On the other end - just as titillating Organic goat cheeses and yogurts, fresh chicken and duck eggs,two tables with pork meat raised with care, a cheese maker amazing display of cheeses, more gluten free pastries, a vendor with the best flowers which lasts for weeks in your flower vase, fresh jams, apples, maple syrup,breads, organic veggies so colorful you need to wear your sunglasses. Plus another great homemade pastry table, organic wines! and the freshest of fish at the very last table. And of course there are the musicians, the fresh air, the samples, etc. Don't miss out;support the farms and best of all for those who carry an EBT card you can exchange some of those monies for wooden coins to use at the market. They will give you and additional 50% to add to your coin purse meaning if you ask them to take $20 from your card they will give you $30 of wooden coins. read more

I've loved watching this market grow over time. They offer many different options, fresh veggies, cheeses, fresh baked goods, mead, etc. We have found some our family favorites from the testers they have out, such as the mushroom dip at the mushroom stand. All of the vendors have always been pleasant and very knowledgable in each of the booths. They usually have someone playing music which definitely enhances the experience. Lots of great stuff but the pies from chase farm are amazing. Strawberry rhubarb is OMG. And you can get them baked or frozen. The frozen is just as good as the fresh. I know doesn't seem right but it is. You can special order a chocolate cream. U mmmmmmm goooood. Also there is a cheese maker from phippsburg. Awesome. Can't recall the name. read more
