My group came here on a Sunday. They had a live band. It's a small tasting room inside and it was pretty busy. However, my group got a table and we were greeted right away by I forgot her name already but she was blonde and beautiful and just the sweetest thing! We went for the sparking wines which were all delicious. We didn't have the best experience just coming from Pessagno so this place was a pleasant surprise. Wonderful winery, beautiful setting! I asked my husband to take me there on the way home from Cambria having enjoyed the Chardonnay during a visit to Carmel. Susie (hope I have her name right) who served me was very friendly and welcoming. I wished I could have stayed longer but as my husband does not drink and was exploring outside, I hope to return with friends for a longer visit and tasting experience. I really enjoy visiting Puma Road! I love their red wines, but especially their Cabernet! My other favorite is the Pinot Noir! I like the open space they have, but especially the great service they have there. You are welcomed to bring in food from the outside! You must visit! You'll Have a great time! We enjoyed the grounds and the people serving were very friendly, but unfortunately the wine wasn't clicking well with our palette today.

We had purchased a Priority Wine Pass earlier in the year, to maximize our enjoyment of a Napa trip last fall - so over Christmas, I decided I was going to try to make the best use of it we could, and stop at as many participating wineries as I could that were on the way between norcal and socal on the drive up and back. This was one of the places we stopped on the drive back, and while it is *definitely* worth stopping if you have a wine pass (they comp two tastings!), I would also say, it's one of the handful of places I would give 5 stars to even without it. They have a pretty wide variety of styles, and one tasting covers any 5 tastes of your choice (though I would still recommend getting a priority wine pass, and coming with a friend, so you can try 10 wines instead of 5!) A tasting is normally $15 - but it's comped with any bottle purchase, and while we also tried a few wines that were pretty pricey, we also tried several wines in the ~20 dollar range that we liked. I personally thought the various reds we tried were all "good" but none of them were fantastic - however, they did have a *very* good $20 Gewurztraminer when I was there, which we ended up buying a bottle of even though our tasting was already comped. (Admittedly, this was a couple months ago, so their wines may have changed by now.) The tasting room area is nothing fancy, but it's nice and quiet, everyone there was super friendly, and while there isn't any sort of view (if you want a picnic with a view, drive a bit further to Hahn - though I liked the wines here more, but they were both good), they do have several picnic tables outside, as well as, conveniently for us (it was pretty windy the day we were there!), one table inside the tasting room, that they were happy to let us eat sandwiches at while tasting their wines. read more

Disclosure: I did not taste any of the wines during this trip, review is based on service, decor, and grounds. The ground is absolutely beautiful. It has 3 picnic tables in the front, so Puma is definitely a great place to bring some lunch while you're tasting in the area. Plus, there is plenty of trees for shade. Tasting room is small. Luckily, we were the only ones at Puma. Tasting fee is $15 for an option of 5 tasters out of the menu; fee is waived with purchase. Puma Road Winery is a part of Santa Lucia Highlands AVA aka SLH. They are known for their Pinor Noir and Chardonnay in this region, so definitely give it a taste in this area. The folks that tasted their wines thought it was A-OK, but not fantastic. I can't give any opinions on their wines until I return on a later date...looking forward to it! PS bathroom is located in the tasting room, near the rear of the bar. read more

I love Puma Road. Each time I have gone there I have enjoyed myself. The wine is wonderful and the people are very friendly.

We have really fallen in love with Pessangno Winery & Puma Rd winery. My husband and I were in Pessangno on Saturday 1/21/2023. We had a wonderful experience with a tasting room employee, she was attentive, bubbly, always a smile on her face, and able to laugh and joke with us. She really went out of her way to pour us some amazing wines, based on us sharing with her what we generally like. Our favorite at Pessangno was the Quattro and Zinfandel. We had such a good time that day, that we went to Puma the very next day, and we brought friends, all because we knew Jaime was working. It was the day of the 49er game, and we were the only 4 people in the tasting room, besides Jaime. It was an even better time with her than the day before. She poured us the red wines that were all out of this world, we purchased the petite sirah, TKO and the predator, oh and I can't forget about the Sauv Blanc. That Sunday we went to Odenata first, and we couldn't wait to leave. Horrible service, nothing compared to our experience with Jaime. We will be canceling our membership with Odenata, and we are going to become dual members at Pessangno and Puma. All wineries should have employees like Jaime, unfortunately it's not that way. Good, hardworking employees, who hustle, and are so kind are rare these days. We appreciate you Jaime, you made our weekend so special, and we can't wait to come back, oh and 49ers won, which just topped off the fabulous day. read more

I absolutely love this winery, it has wonderful wines, ( our favorite is the Cab Franc and Tannat )that my wife and I enjoy so much. We had an epic experience on New Years Day. The tasting room employee, greeted us with a huge smile, and welcomed us in, with a Happy New Year. Her name was Jamie. She stayed and talked with us, and gave us some knowledge that we didn't know about your vineyards. She had quite a few people for it being New Years Day, and she made each and every person feel welcomed and special. We will be back as I stated we love Puma, but New Years Day was extra special. Love this place!! The friendliest staff and great wines. It will appease any wine lover. Low key and approachable. The tasting room was intimate and very nice. Tours go there so it can get busy. I highly recommend this place. Also the 2011 cab Franc is 50 percent off! Great price. Also tasting fees waived when you buy a few bottles. read more

My husband and I drove through this area yesterday and stopped at Passagno and Puma road wineries. We had a lovely experience at Passagno and the wine was ok. Then we went to puma road and had a negative experience. The wine was ok (not horrible but nothing exciting - kind of tasted a lot alike) but the problem was with the owner of the wineries. He owns both Passagno and puma road and he arrived on his helicopter which was neat! We were one of two couples tasting (safely distanced - that was good!) and he came over to chat with us. He promptly started off with a comment about "the mask nonsense" and then proceeded to slam liberals, Newsom, etc. I mentioned to him that we were liberal and would appreciate not discussing politics while we were wine tasting. He continued to say several things , turned the topic for a bit and then returned to something else political. I reiterated that I was feeling uncomfortable and he finally backed off, chatting about motorcycles for a bit and thankfully moved on after at least 20 minutes.I tried to smile and laugh but it was ridiculous for an owner to discuss politics with his customers in such a distasteful way. Just a warning for anyone else who would rather just enjoy the wine without the biased commentary. read more

Zero point to making reservations when the person at the counter serves walk-ups before ever paying attention to Reservation customers. Arrived 15 minutes late due to River Rd being covered in dirt between Hahn and Puma. No reserved seats, "seat yourself, I'll get to you", 30 minutes later and still no service. Another party arrived, they immediately got good seating & service while staff continued to not provide service. read more

Park at your own risk!!! My car was hit while parked near the employee driveway entrance on the right as you drive in to the winery, which caused major damage. Asked the owner for footage (for insurance purposes) and they refused to show any videos and eventually ignored my calls and text messages. Park at your own risk as they will not help if anything should happen to your car on their property. read more

My friend and I stopped by this winery on our way to other river road wineries. It will now be destination stop as we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious wines we tasted. Terrific little gem of a tasting room. Best reds we tasted in the area. The pinots, cabs, merlot, and blends were all excellent. The lady and gentleman doing the pouring (sorry, I'm blanking on names) were both very friendly and helpful -- provided all sorts of interesting information about the wines but also gave us our space when we were enjoying the pours. They've got a huge tasting menu -- all kinds of varietals -- and you pick 5, so you can focus on the grapes you like. Nice little setting with seating both inside and outdoors. Definitely recommend that you give this place and its well-structured reds a try. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for 4 years. We absolutely love this place. We've traveled to Napa and other wine locations but this one is by far superior. The price is right and the quality is amazing. It is rare when you can honestly say that you enjoyed everything you have tried. And that is what this place does for us. Puma makes a great Cab Franc. The 2011 is my favorite. Very smooth with the perfect pop of fruit.

This property is beautiful, the tasting room is rustic yet welcoming. My visit provided me the option of 10 tastes, so I chose the varietal that appealed to me most. My favorites were the 2012 Pinot Gris, the reserve Chardonnay, and the SLH Pinot Noir. They offered cheese, crackers and water, a must if tasting while driving. The wine is superb, the staff friendly, so I am a fan. read more

My boyfriend and I visited Puma Road and enjoyed the wines. The winemaker was very kind and gave us a tour of the barrel room, as well. However, the owner Ray was quite opinionated and shared his politics aggressively, which unfortunately colored the taste of the wine. He also did some mansplaining on my academic topic (an area in which I have a PhD), including adding some offensive comments about minority groups. The wine is good; the company is not. read more

Amazing sausages on Sunday's! The owner cooks and is social. We came here on Sunday and it was not busy. We arrived and smelled the aroma of bbq cooking! We were greeted by two lovely ladies and immediately started tasting. This is the place to go for reds! The gold cap Chardonnay is amazing however and the 2011 Merlot is full of flavor and finishes wonderfully. The cab franc was another great red. Our hostess was pleasant and really pushed for feedback and tried to guide us down the list accordingly, however I like to choose myself and explore.
