Interesting concept to find those part for your car. Basically you pay a $2 fee to enter. One can either look online or at the entrance to see if your car is in the lot, or why years would match your vehicle as well. Bring your own tool set, and start tearing up the vehicle to get your part. Fairly easy concept, and the prices are cheap as opposed to going to a mechanic. Most of the car are damaged, and I must admit, it did feel a bit Erie doing through a car that obviously had an accident. If you're ok with that, then pull away. Great prices. read more

5 hours into a 20 hour drive disaster struck and I needed a specialized wheel and tire in order to not be stranded in Birmingham..I would have missed an incredibly important family reunion..I am handicapped with mobility issues but Jared in the front greeted me and made it his mission to get me roadworthy..After a number of false starts they pulled an acceptable wheel and tire and installed it in the parking lot in the rain which continued till after normal closing time..Sometimes kindness extended means more than you can know..5 stars for sure!!!..Thanks again Jared.. I've been in and out of this place for the last few years with my dad, and it's amazing how many cars are here! Just a tip, the junkyard is pretty deep gravel so wear VERY supportive footwear. It's also DIY, so you will need to bring all of your own tools. It's $2 to go into the yard, but only $1 if you are a VIP club member. It costs nothing to be a member, and registering didn't take long so I would recommend you join. You should always check their website for specific cars/models. Most of the employees have been real helpful, but of course I met the one outlier who refused to answer my question because she was "on break". On break meaning she was leaving the building to eat inside of her car. read more

Just so we're clear, this is a junkyard. They have a giant gravel yard with rows and rows of junk cars precariously propped up on rusty wheels. So clearly, pants and good shoes are a must, as well as gloves and water, and possibly a partner to help you look and/or make sure nothing falls on you. You pay $2 to enter (only $1 with a VIP card, but the lady was firm with the husband that even though we were together, it was $2 for me) and it's 100% DIY from there. They'll loan you a wheelbarrow -- think of it as a shopping cart -- and other than helping you use the computer terminals to locate a specific vehicle, you're on your own for finding and salvaging parts. So this is a bring a wish list and a variety of tools situation, and really only for you if you know what you're looking at/for. Really, it's like discount or thrift shopping, just...dirtier, and probably of more interest for men than women (to stereotype here). Fortunately for me, the husband is an experienced car guy, so we had no trouble locating and removing a replacement side mirror for his truck. The nice thing with taking it off the junk car yourself is that it gives you a test run on how to install it, with no consequences for breaking something. Seriously, these cars are shredded -- there's a reason they're being scrapped! You just take whatever you want and leave the rest. We also grabbed a pair of replacement mirrors for my trusty VW, and got super lucky when, lacking the appropriate wrench, the husband spotted a guy nearby with one who was willing to loan it to him. The husband installed all the mirrors today, and they're awesome! Way cheaper than new replacements, at $10 for manual mirrors and $20 for electronic. If you're properly prepared (tools, parts list, water), Pull-A-Part is definitely the place to save some dough. And I'm pretty sure the husband will insist on me accompanying him as his helper from now on! read more

If you try to sell your old car to these people, they'll give you the run around until your quote expires (7 days) and then quote you a new price that's $60 less than the original price. For no real reason other than "we might have a lot of that car on the lot," as a person in their Atlanta, GA call center told me. What a waste of time. read more
