This could quite possibly be because it's SO CHEAP (I love cheap stuff), but to be truthful the food was the tastiest Chilean fare I managed to try here in Santiago. The location is tricky to find but its in the main food hall of La Vega and there are dozens of restaurants all located together in an open air, dingy space. I recommend the cazuela de vacuno (a traditional dish, basically a stew with a chicken soup like broth, a large piece of slow cooked beef, a wedge of pumpkin and a potato stewed with some other vegetables). This came with a side starter salad and soup, all for the price of 2,500 CLP. I also tried the cazuela de ave (same thing but with a 1/4 chicken instead of the beef) on another occasion.

The quality and simplicity of these dishes make Tia Ruth's stand out from the other offerings in the Vega Chica. Although, you must keep in mind this is a true whole in the wall, kind of dingy (with cats and all) but it is all part of the experience! This small restaurant has great service where the waiters always make you feel welcome (plus, they will let you know what is best to order that day...if something isn't as fresh they will be honest). They always have menus with a starter of soup and salad, juice and bread and pebre! If you are a vegetarian, this is not the place for you, but if you eat meat there are tons of different options. I suggest ordering the mechada or costillar (perfect if you are struggling from last night's carrete)! Also, can't go without mentioning the fried fish with rice - yum!

All the drinks were really good as well, I had a pisco sour which was really delicious but really strong as well. You cannot taste the flavor of the alcohol and it's a tricky drink so watch out! All the food items are drenched in guac which I LOVE, and the vegetables are all really fresh tasting. The bread was fresh and soft, super fluffy. Great location because it's central and located right next to domestic check in.
