Instead, they have only a digital menu that's really paired down and most of the delicious sandwiches are long gone. On our most recent trip, we brought out-of-town visitors and their kiddos, aged 11 and 3. The oldest was not initially a fan of his chocolate shake because it was so dark and bitter, but the adults loved it (and it was sweeter once he mixed it). The youngest had his first submarino and loved it (highly recommend for newbies!). One ordered a hot dog, which was surprisingly good! The bread was very soft and tasty and the slaw was out of this world with a hint of sweetness and poppyseeds. A couple of us had the salads, which were great--the chicken option has quinoa mixed in and the mushroom one is extremely earthy. Unfortunately for us, the only jarra options for lemonade on our visit was plain (read: tart), though we would have preferred ones with berries or with mint + ginger. I'm glad to see PS is back open, but I do hope they bring back some of their classics like the Siete Colores sandwhich and the other with the fried egg.

I got a thick hot chocolate, although they have an option for a thinner one, as well as "submarinos" which is a bar of chocolate in hot milk. The hot chocolate definitely didn't disappoint. Has a nice balanced chocolate flavor that's not too bitter but still has a strong chocolate flavor. I was also hungry so I ordered a sandwich. My expectations weren't super high because it's a little place that specializes in chocolate, but don't let that stop you from trying the food. I got a roast beef sandwich that had caramelized onions, lettuce, pepper mayo and a fried egg. All of the ingredients were top notch and together just made a really good, gourmet sandwich. I'm looking forward to trying other things here. If you're in the area it's definitely worth the trip.

That said - the food was great, and surprisingly inexpensive considering the location in an nice park, and the upscale vibe of the place. It's also huge, so I set my expectations low. I got a salmon ceviche which was pretty good, but needed something else with it. My wife got the mestizo ceviche with assorted seafood... and it was what I had actually wanted. Both were delicious though. The place worked well with kids - though they mostly had french fries as their dinner. The staff was very nice and patient with our large group. Free wifi was available. Ambience was really nice. Mostly, the location was wonderful, with a beautiful view, and the patio was both covered (great for a warm day) but still felt very open.

Our waiter was frustrated with us and ditched our table! A young man named Roberto came to our rescue and helped us navigate the choices. Shrimp empanadas: So good! My friend and I each got one, love the pastry Risotto al mascarpone: the flavor was so good and the meat was tender- Ceviche de reineta: fresh tasting and delicious! If we had discovered this restaurant earlier, I would have gone back at least one more time during my visit to Santiago.

After a week of seeking out authentic Chilean food/experience all over Santiago Centro, I can…read morehonestly say that this place was my favourite. This could quite possibly be because it's SO CHEAP (I love cheap stuff), but to be truthful the food was the tastiest Chilean fare I managed to try here in Santiago. The location is tricky to find but its in the main food hall of La Vega and there are dozens of restaurants all located together in an open air, dingy space. I recommend the cazuela de vacuno (a traditional dish, basically a stew with a chicken soup like broth, a large piece of slow cooked beef, a wedge of pumpkin and a potato stewed with some other vegetables). This came with a side starter salad and soup, all for the price of 2,500 CLP. I also tried the cazuela de ave (same thing but with a 1/4 chicken instead of the beef) on another occasion.

The quality and simplicity of these dishes make Tia Ruth's stand out from the other offerings in the Vega Chica. Although, you must keep in mind this is a true whole in the wall, kind of dingy (with cats and all) but it is all part of the experience! This small restaurant has great service where the waiters always make you feel welcome (plus, they will let you know what is best to order that day...if something isn't as fresh they will be honest). They always have menus with a starter of soup and salad, juice and bread and pebre! If you are a vegetarian, this is not the place for you, but if you eat meat there are tons of different options. I suggest ordering the mechada or costillar (perfect if you are struggling from last night's carrete)! Also, can't go without mentioning the fried fish with rice - yum!
