4.5- The extra half star is for the service.
I am in Greenwise several times a month and it is always a pleasant experience and a little frustrating experience all at the same time. I will start out with all the amazing things because that is the majority of what there is to talk about.
Of course, the signature Publix service is there in full force. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and goes out of their way to help you. The guys at the meat counter always do right by me, whether it is fresh grinding something different out the case, telling me about a new flavor or product, or giving me tips on how to use some of the products in unconventional ways. Their house made sausage is fantastic, particularly the chili lime or buffalo chicken. The brown sugar Dijon chicken sausage has a very sophisticated feel and when served with tossed greens feels like a complete meal. They also have fresh spice rubbed bacon. The cowboy bacon is the perfect addition to your grilled burger. Greenwise pork is really where they shine. It is the cleanest, freshest, and best textured pork I have been able to source in town. The pork tenderloins are juicy and you can cut them with a fork. For an easy meal, pick up the tenderloins they prepare wrapped with the aforementioned cowboy bacon, you will not be disappointed. They also use all the trimmings from their premium quality steaks, all the end cuts and good fats, to make a "market grind" ground beef mix and this is our go to ground meat for burgers. Excellent rich beef flavor at a reasonable price considering the cuts that go into it.
Trevor and Bryce over in the wine and cheese are fantastic. We have attended some of Trevor's tastings and he is really knowledgeable about wine. He does not steer you wrong with recommendations. We have found some go to cheeses in their case and their selection is pretty well rounded. An amazing thing about Greenwise is you can buy a bottle of wine, some cheese, and open all of it and eat it upstairs. No corkage fees. They will even make you a cheese plate if you request it.
Their drinks bar is far more robust than others in town, our juices, coffee, acai bowl, and wines have all been enjoyable. They have a happy hour everyday from 3pm-6pm with half off non-alcoholic drinks and a dollar off alcohol. This is not a draw for us, but we do partake during our shopping trips, and have found all the baristas super friendly.
The health and beauty section is surprisingly well curated. Unlike their competitors, they offer more fully clean selections, not faux natural products. I was able to find totally clean, epg 1 rated, fragrance free shampoo. This made me ridiculously happy.
Now for the few frustrating aspects. I despise the layout of the produce section. Despise. Cut and bagged vegetables are in one place, whole head in another, the organic is sorta segmented but still not all together, the awkward coolers where the bagged salad and herbs are behind the lines for the eats bowl section, I feel like I am always hunting. Sometimes I am offered help and I have learned to start taking it but it shouldn't take a store associate to help me find whole head broccoli, which is in those weird coolers on a low shelf you cannot even see. Aesthetics over function in this area. Also, the pricing is not competitive to the point of aggravation on some products.
The dairy, cheese, butter, case area needs some work too. Why is sour cream on a random end-cap not near the cream cheese? Why isn't the sliced cheese by the deli? I just do not get it. Only one organic potato chip sku, really? You should have a greenwise label potato chip. Also where is the fresh (not jarred) salsa or in house made dips to go with those billion bags of tortilla chips? On the compete other side of the store randomly next to the cheese that is not by the deli? But I thought it was the vegan section? Also, the food bar is very basic and many days only have chicken wings on it? I get that the students drive a lot of this and so I am patient but that doesn't make sense to me. Clearly, these last two paragraphs illustrate why I am frustrated.
Overall, Greenwise is a pleasant place to shop, stop in for a coffee/juice, find a good bottle of wine, or grab some items for dinner. I just wish I could navigate the store to make my shopping trips more efficient and that the vegetable produce was competitively priced. I live downtown, I shouldn't save money driving further away to a competitor for items I frequently purchase but I often find that I do, especially if I just need a few fresh items and don't meet the spend requirement for a coupon. Also consider asking for a downtown trolley stop to help reduce car traffic to your store. Finally, an app would be helpful to manage coupons, view the weekly ad, and book events, like the wine tastings with Trevor, because the website is a little buggy, never wants to stay signed in, and has trouble properly showing the ads on mobile. read more
