This is the closest Publix to Washington DC, which is about a 45 minute drive. We shop here every few months and have found the store clean, well stocked, and friendly. We have ordered catering from them several times and most of the time the food has been excellent. Easy parking, new-ish store, and good prices. The one time our order was messed up, they did give us a partial refund which I appreciated. I will continue shopping here and ordering catering as long as it's the closest Publix to me! read more

We stopped by here for some fried chicken and sugar cookies on our way home. I've been meaning to stop by after finding out that there's finally a Publix out here. The sugar cookies were only available in a half and half box at the bakery section -- half chocolate chip and half sugar cookies. The really nice lady at the bakery section was willing to make a box of sugar cookies only for us to purchase. It totally made our day because we love the Publix sugar cookies. The friendly service reminded us of the good hospitality back in Florida. The deli chicken and salad area had us drooling and we were going to get some fried chicken as well. However, we skipped the atherosclerotic treat for the next time after having scrumptious meals after another this weekend. A quick auditing of the store had me smiling because of the good nonverbal acknowledgments by the store associates. Out of 10 associates I came across, every one of them made eye contact with smiles. The cleanliness of this store inside and outside was outstanding. I had trouble taking pictures in the refrigerated door aisles (e.g., frozen food, beer aisles) because of how shiny and clean the glass doors were. The floors were also nice and spotless. Their merchandising was great as well. All advertised on sale products were full stocked, and no empty / gaping shelves anywhere. I liked that the pharmacy here can fill pet prescriptions. The alcoholic beverage aisle had some Japanese sake at a less than $10/bottle price. They can be used for cooking as well as preparing confectionery. The only gripe I really had was the woman's bathroom. One of the stalls had no toilet paper and it could use some tidying up. I wish people stops hovering over the seats......it's so gross when there's just droppings everywhere. Nobody working there or coming in afterwards should have to see or clean up such a mess!! read more

Purchased pre wrapped dungeoness crab legs from the seafood department that I steamed and realized after a few bites they we're spoiled. Took them back to the Publix immediately (like they were still warm and started to smell like ammonia). They took my name and telephone number in the event I got sick....like seriously?!Thirty minutes later I had to camp out near the toilet for the remainder of the evening. I'm pretty vexed!!! Now 5 days later I'm contacted by someone from their QA department about filling out a questionnaire about the food I purchased and my experience. Like WHAT?! You put spoiled food out to be purchased, I purchased it and got sick! End of story....what's a questionnaire going to do for me?? I'll never go back to this store again. read more

The DMV supermarket chains are about to get a run for the money now that Publix is slowly drifting up I-95 like kudzu. Clean aisles, well stocked items, employees on their best behavior and willing to go above and beyond, they even offer to drive the shopping cart to your vehicle and place items in your trunk or back seat. Also, let me tell you, not only do the supermarkets have formidable competition, but Wawa, Subway, Capriotti's, Jersey Mike's and any other sandwich shop better watch out for the Publix subs! On Saturday for the grand opening, the line for sub sandwiches were almost to the middle of the store! Oh, someone even created a Facebook page letting people know when the chicken tender subs are on sale! That immensely popular! read more

Yesterday I was intent on getting to Publix to grab some fried chicken for Sunday dinner. I just moved to Nova and the nearest Publix was an hour away before I got here. In true Northern VA fashion it took me about 40 minutest to go 15 miles to get here. I arrived in the parking lot around 1145AM (in time to beat most of the church (or virtual church) crowd). I waited in line at the chicken counter for roughly 7-8 minutes where I was told that they were out. "Like FOR THE DAY?!", I asked the employee and she said yes! So I said ok and just grabbed a rotisserie chicken (internally disgruntled) and just got in line for a sub (apparently their deli is TikTok famous). Waited in line for about 20 minutes because the line was long. Put in my order. The employee is super sweet. Preps my wrap and slides it to the next employee, who is finishing up another customer ahead of me. In the 60 seconds of her taking care of the other customer a prayer group of flies (like 4-5) settle in nicely on top of the mayo and spicy mustard, turkey, and gouda cheese on MY turkey wrap. The sweet older lady walks back and simply disrupts the flies and their prayer meeting and asks me what else I'd like on my wrap. I look at her...and she looks at me....and I look at her...and she looks at me (all of this is legit like that R. Kelly trapped in the closet audio playing in my head). I simply and politely tell her nothing. She asks "No toppings?" I say "No wrap. No ma'am. There were multiple flies on my food." She's confused and I walk away. I walk to self-checkout with the chicken I didn't come to the store for only to wait because the lines are long. I finally give up and sat the chicken on top of a stack of soda boxes and exit to my car. Drive all the way back home. Two hours wasted. I was so frustrated and hungry that I just took a nap because I was starving and frustrated. Annoyed and determined to never return here again. However, the employees are super nice and I applaud them for working and making it happen in the midst of this global event. But heck no to Publix EVER AGAIN. Maybe just this one. At least the flies looked like they enjoyed my turkey wrap. read more

Publix is hyped up so much. Not to say it doesn't deserve it, but Publix gets much love from word of mouth. It's a very nice grocery store that focuses on being clean and put together. You will not find a messy Publix. I think they're unique characteristic is their "pub subs." I'm in pain leaving this review. I grew up with publix in Florida. This location just isn't doing it for me. Aside from not putting out the proper sides that go with mojo pork (rice and beans) as advertised on the website, this is the second time I bought food from there and it was bad. The first time, I thought it was a fluke, this time, I had to return the food to the store. The chicken I bought appeared okay when I looked briefly in the box window. Tried their order ahead for two single serve bbq hot meals. Ordering said give an hour (submitted at 1:20pm so pickup was at 2:20). Go into the store and there is nothing at the ready-made online pickup carousel, and no one acknowledges me for 5+ minutes, so I went around to the individual line for the hot meals and finally a girl comes to help. I try to pick up the meals, but she runs to the back to find out and says they're "being made". 20 minutes later she returns with the meat and a couple of the sides that I assume had to be cooked in order to assemble the meals herself, and then departs for another 8 minutes just looking for the bbq sauces that go with it. Undoubtedly no one was looking at the online orders, or aware that she had what she needed. In the meantime 4 other employees wander by and ask if myself and the others waiting are being helped, but they can't because it's not their station... After all that, still missing an item from both, plus no bags for me to carry the prepaid various items, and no silverware available (bbq is not a finger food). Food was hard and completely unseasoned. All the while the sub area is hopping and being served quickly. Not sure what the disconnect is, but will not be using them for order ahead again. read more

I am extremely so happy they opened up a Publix less than 10 mins from me! I'm from SC where there are Publix's everywhere. The produce and meats are fresh and great.. there is a hot foods area that has deli, hot foods, and sushi. As well as an upstairs area for you to sit and eat if you want... And just something about a brand new grocery store just rubs me the right way! Go check it out if you have a chance. read more

Exactly as the Publix stores are in Florida. The glaring lights are too bright and in a weird light tone. The layout is foreign to me, but I can get used to that. The staff is very courteous, and I spent no time in line to check out. The subs are good and live up to the "pub subs" of Florida. The parking lot is terrible, with a badly laid out pattern, and is difficult to exit. Not a bad store, but, not 100% my favorite. read more

Toke the hour drive just for a couple of sandwiches, didn't go well. Ask for a Ruben, no cooking paper. Staff member ask a manager, the manager she ask was on her way out the door and forgot. Now I'm just waiting, it's sad that only a manager has the ability to get cooking paper. I've only been here four times since they open because of the drive. Thank goodness Giants Grocery store treats its customers with respect and does not create suspicion based on color of its customers. On Friday, 8 December, I attempted to purchase gift cards at the Publix store 1640 Publix Way Stafford, VA 22554 United States Although I had a corporate card, my drivers license, and I offered to retrieve my corporate identification in the car, the store refused to sell me the gift cards because the cashier thought my purchase of gift cards was fishy and William, the manager, thought my actions was suspicious. My Story; Currently I am a Human Resource Manager for a distribution company that likes to acknowledge its employees for good performance by handing out $50 and $100 gift cards. Normally, I send my Human Resources Representatives to purchase the cards at the Publix store in Stafford County. It is important to note that both of these employees are people of color and we usually purchase gift cards ranging from $500-$1000 per transaction. Since I was purchasing over $1500 in gift cards, I thought it probably easier to go to the customer service desk. This way I would not hold up the cashier line. When I approached the customer service desk, I was informed by the cashier that David, the store manager, provided instructions to his team that they were not to sell any more gift cards to my employees or the company in which I work for. The cashier stated that my actions looked fishy. I asked to talk to a store manager and a few minutes later William appeared. I asked William about the stores refusal to sell me gift cards and he commented that he wasn't going to sell me the cards because our consistent purchase of gift cards looked questionable. William then wanted to know why we were buying so many gift cards and I told him it was for our employees so we could pay them. Once again, when I questioned the stores decision not to sell me gift cards, William commented that my actions looks questionable and that the store has a right to refuse service to its customers. Even though I had a corporate card, and my identification with me, that still wasn't good enough for this store to sell me gift cards. When I offered to go out to my car to get my employee badge, William commented that the badge was something that I could've easily had made myself. Once again I challenge their perception that my actions appeared suspicious. I encouraged William to call the Stafford County Sherriff's Department to report my actions as suspicious. William refused. However, William, once again, acknowledged that my actions appeared suspicious and the store has a right to refuse service to its customers. Once again, I encouraged William to call the Stafford County Sherriff's Department to report my suspicious behavior but William refused. I offered to stay so that the Sherriff's department could arrest me for suspicious or fraudulent behavior . Again, william refused to call the Stafford County Sherriff's Department. Finally, William did say he would call the Sherriff office to have me removed from the store. I encourage William to call the Stafford County Sherrif Dept to remove me from the store. At this point, William had that "deer in the headlights" look in his eyes as he was not sure what actions to take. When I asked to get the number to the regional manager, William refuse to provide that information and said I could just leave the store . So, I left the store went to Giants and purchase my gift cards So I'm still a little confused as to why a store would refuse to sell gift cards to someone with a corporate card and two identifications . Furthermore, I can only question if both of my employees, who made previous gift card purchases, would have been Caucasian, would that have made a difference? Either way, if you want great customer service experience where you're going be treated respectfully , then go shop at Giants. Steve read more

I don't like leaving a bad review for Publix, but this location deserves it. The deli needs to get it together. I have been coming here since they opened and if it's not the sandwich order wrong, it's my sliced meat order NEVER ready when I come to pick up. Literally, it works like this... "Hi, my order isn't in the box and it was supposed to be ready 20 minutes ago". The employee says oh let me get it sliced for you as they find my ticket. EVERY TIME. Today was extra annoying because I now live farther away, ordered online before I left my house and made sure I was extra late getting there because I know it's never ready on time, and they still had not even started the order when I arrived. I have tried delicious items from the bakery and fresh fruits and vegetables from the produce department. They offer a great selection of meats. A fair 5 Star execution for the opening of this Publix! I visited a couple of times since opening day on 12 November. I was very excited that they FINALLY made their way closer to me! Virginia lacks a good Grocery Store. The only real competition was Harris Teeter, before they flopped. The thing I like most about Publix is the way they adapt to the area. Down in Palm Beach, FL they have valet service, just north in Riviera Beach, they carry things for snowbirds and tourists, and here in Stafford/Northern VA they compete with Wegmans. This place is like Wegmans, without the excessive food court or New England "Hospitality". I am familiar with the East Coast and will take Floridian Hospitality any day! Getting back on topic, the store was more vast and modern than any other Publix I have been to in my life. They really hit the nail! Every sales floor employee was hospitable and helpful. I overheard one fellow customer even comment that other customers were just as polite as the employees. I found that comically true. Every aisle was well organized and stocked (even given the situation). Just as I would have expected at Wegmans, I found every niche item I was looking for here at Publix! I highly doubt I will deviate to other Grocery Stores now! My hope is that this location can keep it up past the Grand Opening Phase. I overheard multiple employees discussing how there were a lot of fellow employees from their North Carolina locations. Nonetheless, that will not stop me and I will be back again soon! The deli subs are fantastic, but there is always a line and long wait for them. The other thing I have to mention is the horrible design of the parking lot. Hard to get in and out and the one-way-only parking lanes are unreasonably difficult. It's almost as bad as the new Stafford 630 and 95 interchange. Keep it simple, stupid.
