I am absolutely disgusted with the experience I had at Public Storage, specifically the Lindenhurst, NY location (1070 Route 109), but it reflects a complete failure across the entire company. I purchased a Class C RV in November 2021 a vehicle I loved and stored it at this location beginning in November 2023. Today, I no longer have an RV. Why? Because Public Storage completely failed to protect my property. My RV was vandalized, broken into, and lived in by vagrants while on their lot a location I was led to believe was secure. When I discovered the damage, I could not reach a single live person. No one answered at the facility. No one returned voicemails. Even their 1-800 number is useless. I spent months trying to get someone to provide documentation for the police report and insurance company documentation that should've been easily accessible for a paying customer. But here's the irony: when you owe them a payment, they're magically available to call you. When your property is being destroyed? Silence. As of today, my RV has been officially deemed a total loss by insurance -- because of Public Storage's lack of security and complete absence of human accountability. I never received support, never received follow-up, and even now, I can't reach anyone to cancel my account. I repeat: DO NOT leave your valuables with Public Storage. I would never use this company again and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. They cost me the RV I worked for and I'm left with nothing but regret. read more

Very easy to set up rental. Easy monthly payments. Clean !! The people were very helpful. Close to where I live . Very easy and quick to end the lease! Totally recommend using Public Storage! read more

Never anyone in office to assist with problems, mouse problems, no security cameras in storage areas, people living there in storage units, prices are raised by $30 every few months. Find another place. read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

I was charged for 5 hours of their travel time when it only takes 3 hours to get to the new location (maybe 4 at most because of the truck having to take a different route). This company actually worked for the person buying my home too and they had an awful experience as well. The movers were all grumpy especially the lead person who did not like to be told what to do.... quite frankly, it's my belongings and if I want them to place it in a certain area "like a shelf in the garage" I should not be told no or questioned and then stuff just thrown on the floor. Absolutely a disgrace. The company did not want to hear about my complaints or concerns.... I should not have to waste my time on a phone call to explain my concerns the day of a stressful move.
