We enjoyed our meal here, for the most part. They gave generous portions of hearty Czech food. Great for a cold January night!
This place was hidden away in a cobblestone basement under the street, proving a very cool ambiance. We were greeted kindly.
The bread was quite tasty and very fresh and soft.
We ordered the Greek salad, which was just okay; there was not enough lettuce and too many chunky vegetables and cheese in it.
For our main course, my friend ordered a meat dish consisting of "old bohemian entrecôte beef with meat sausage, bacon, and potatoes." I was told that this dish was very good. We had a local with us who told us that this was a true, authentic Czech meal. The beef was very tender, and the sausage and bacon were incredibly flavorful and succulent. The gravy it came in was also very yummy. The potatoes were good, but a bit under-seasoned.
I ordered the pasta dish with vegetables for my main course, and it was fantastic! It had a kind of Italian/Chinese food feel to it, as strange as that sounds. The pasta was buttery and well flavored, and the stir-fried veggies were very tasty.
For dessert, we both had "pancakes with jam and sour cream." They were more like crepes with a jam filling. To us, they tasted a little funky and we did not like them. I think it's a different in cultural taste though.
Overall, this is a genuine, affordable Czech restaurant that's worth a visit! read more
