I was seen in the urgent care clinic for some increasing hip pain: I arrived about 9:40 (providers…read morestart at 10, and the clerk I spoke to on the phone the day before recommended arriving around then to start the check-in process). I was in the back shortly after ten a.m., Aaron (MA) was fabulous (personable, smart), Dr Brown rocked; he listened to what I had to say (AND it was transcribed perfectly into my portal), X-rays and a plan for treatment was completed with me out the door by 11! I am REALLY confused by the 1 star reviews; I can only guess they are referring to the main clinics, not the urgent care option. As I progress through their system I will update my review, but as of today they absolutely are FABULOUS!!

I went to Olympia Orthopaedic to see about getting a hip replacement. I met Dr Wood. He was…read moreextremely engaging and confident a hip replacement was exactly what I needed. One of the statements Dr. Woods kept repeating at both appointments was, "After 3 days , you'll be able to golf, go to Costco and mow the lawn ?" He also repeated "You will have my personal cell phone for LIFE ".All of his staff said pay no attention to what he says, you will NOT be able to do any of those things by day 3 !!! Dr Wood has 4 rules: 1- take stool softeners and drink SMOOTH TEA 2- Take your pain medicine as prescribed 3-Do the exercises 4-!!!! The surgery date was set. My wife and I filled out the same paperwork at least 5 times prior to the surgery. We were told this was vital for all the staff. Surgery day came, I had issues coming out of anesthesia with intense all over body shaking and my heart rate kept spiking. Dr. Wood came in and said everything went GREAT! And his personal cell phone would be given to us by the discharge nurse. I ended up staying way longer than normal because of my heart rate.An anesthesia Doctor came in as well to make sure I was ok. Finally I got to go home. The next day we followed the discharge instructions, which told us to elevate the leg that was operated on above your heart. That caused an amazing amount of pain, so, we called ,Anne who was listed as the 'Joint Replacement Coordinator 'she was listed as the person to contact with any after care questions.my wife called her in the morning, didn't hear from her ,so she tried again. She ultimately never called. Dr. Wood's personal cell phone # was never h The next day I started having very bad intestinal spasms. I thought it might be justdue to mild constipation It kept increasing. I couldn't eat and I got a low grade fever 99.9 The discharge papers said only call the 24hour after care if your fever goes to 101 or above. By Sunday my intestines were so painful I couldn't get out of bed, I felt weak and horrible. My fever was worse. My wife called the 24 hour service # on the discharge papers and there was a recording that said this # was no longer in service !!! She called their urgent care and they told her to call the main line. 15 minutes later a person from Olympia OB/GYN called. She said his pain was most likely due to the SMOOTH TEA. And to chew gum !!! Within a couple of hours I was in the bathroom in experiencing the worse stomach pains I've ever felt. My wife had to come in before I passed out to help me , stand ,clean me up and get back in bed. She called the OnCall doctors again. NO ONE called us back My wife does not drive. We are over an hour away from a hospital. We believed what that OB/GYN doctor said. By Monday morning my wife was insisting I go to an ER. My temperature was normal but I still had pain. My wife did call Dr. Wood's office to tell them of their epic failure of the weekend. The front office said someone would be reaching out to us. My wife had no choice but, to drive me to the ER, where they did a CT scan My fever went to 101.4 I had a perforated bowel. They flew me by helicopter to a hospital by car would be 2 1/2 hours away. The ER doctor had to find a doctor who had the experience to handle this issue. Since my wife doesn't drive, she had to go back to our home. She was very stressed and scared. I had emergency surgery. My surgeon found my sigmoid colon had ruptured. There was bile and bowel contents exposed in my cavity, which can make you septic and cause death. I ended up having a total of 3 surgeries and 6 inches of colon removed. My wife was finally able to come up to stay in an hotel after being there a week. In the meantime, NO ONE from Olympia Orthopaedic had called us, even though they had been made aware of their failure to respond when we called the after hours doctor. Finally day's later, Anne called to see how Steve was doing from his hip replacement surgery !!!!! When I told her of all he had gone through she was completely shocked and apologetic and told me I'd be hearing from Dr. Wood and administration etc. that day. A few days later, Steve JohnsDr. Woods, his PA called and he was rightly stunned. He also said heads would rolled and said I would be hearing from upper management. We heard from NO ONE. Fast forward.....over 2 years and I still have horrible hip pain!!! I went back to Dr. Brodie Woods and told him about what happened after the surgery and the absolute debacle of care and he had the audacity to say he knew NOTHING about it! He also felt that a little PT would fix my hip. Well it hasen't. I would strongly recommend avoiding Dr. Brodie Woods from operating on any part of my body.

The first week I called I was told it was being referred to the spinal specialist and they would need to review it so they could schedule me. I called back the next week and was told they still had not reviewed it but they would send another message. I called the following week and was told it was still being reviewed but they would send an urgent message and I would hear back with 24 hours. I called back the next day and was told it takes 48 hours for a response to an urgent message. I called back the next week and they said they still did not have it. I called back again the following week and was told "Oh it's been accepted we can schedule you now". We scheduled for two weeks out. The next day I got a call saying that was an accident that I shouldn't have been scheduled because it had not been reviewed yet and they needed to cancel the appointment. Today I finally got a call saying we need to refer you to someone else. So it took 5 weeks for them to tell me that they need to send me somewhere else. Meanwhile I'm in pain and doing what I can to alleviate it. The administrative process is awful. People should not have e to wait 5 weeks for a case to be accepted or referred out. On top of that no one at the office even knew what was going on as I was given several different messages.

Several days ago, I re-injured a shoulder rotator cuff causing sharp pain, considerable aching, loss of sleep, and limiting personal care. An MRI and a medical examination of the original injury signaled the need for a complete shoulder replacement. Instead, I chose a treatment plan of physical therapy and acetaminophen with a cortisone injection when needed. The recent re-injury caused sufficient pain to seek a cortisone injection. Therein rests my review of Olympia Orthopaedics. My physician is away on vacation and cannot order the injection. No health care provider is identified as a standby during his absence. The schedulers must "find a team that is willing" to order and give an injection during my physician's absence. Olympia Orthopaedics Urgent Care Clinic does not give cortisone injections. My torn rotator cuff and re-injury is certainly not an emergency. However, I await a resolution to my current need with the experience and thought of "once out the door...". Clearly, Olympia Orthopaedics needs to have a contingency plan/policy for continuity of care for patients when a health care provider is unavailable for whatever reason.

Since then I've been in twice and I've had a great experience! The office staff I've encountered has always been nice. Wait times have never been rough for me, both in the lobby to be taken back and then when needing to get x-rays. I have been seeing Dr. Kevin D. They saw my brother for a broken femur, which is obviously not a small thing, and from the moment we were there, the care felt different. The provider who saw him took her time, didn't rush through anything, and actually answered all of our questions in a way that made sense. You could tell she cared, not just about the injury, but about him as a person going through it. Same goes for her medical assistant. Super kind, attentive, and just easy to talk to. It didn't feel cold or clinical the way some places do. It felt like they actually wanted to make sure we understood everything and felt supported. Honestly, after seeing how they handled his care, I've been seriously considering switching my own care over to them. That says a lot coming from someone who's pretty particular about where I go. If you're dealing with anything orthopedic-related and want a team that actually listens and treats you like a human, I would absolutely recommend them.

My fiancee is stationed at JBLM and needs to continue his PT. He called this place after finding this place through his insurance he gave them a call and interrogated them, which is his standard procedure. His first impression? The receptionist picked up and sounded confident, a plus in his books. Well the result of that call is that he became a patient! He has been here about 6 times. He comes in, signs in and doesn't even get a chance to sit down as they already call him in! The only person who is ever in the waiting room for more than 2 minutes is me! I've seen multiple different patients come in and they are all treated the same. The ladies are kind and courtesy and have a bond with each patient. They are even kind to me, offering me coffee on some days. And they spend about 1.5 hours with my fiancee, who is recovering from a rotator cuff surgery. They give him a heated massage in the beginning and towards the end make him do exercises in their exercise room, which has a couple of flat beds, weights, a lat pull down machine, stair stepper, treadmill and other equipment. They take therapy seriously! Parking is a breeze, restrooms don't need keys, scheduling is simple. I and he have no conplaints about this place. They even have a fresh newspaper and ample magazines! I truly hope more people come to this office. Be on the lookout for his review!
