Got to my initial appointment 15 minutes early and checked in. That was 9:10AM. I sat and watched as the people in the waiting room were called. I think that the waiting room cycled 3 times before I'd had enough. At 10:40 I finally went to the check-in desk and told the lady that I wasn't going to wait any longer and to cancel my appointment. She asked for my and birthdate and started looking for me in the computer. After not finding me she asked who checked me in. I told her that she had. She went back to looking for me, no apology or attempt to get me in right away. I will not go back. read more

They took my insurance info, had me wait 7 days with a broken arm only to tell me they didn't in fact take my insurance when I arrived for surgery. They advised I pay out of pocket or make an appointment in Spokane, over 300 miles away. I could have used the last week to find someone under my insurance. This incompetence cost me quality of life. read more

I was referred to Washington Ortho Center by an ER doctor following an accident. First visit was fine. Getting a follow up appt was challenging, getting my antibiotic refilled was also a problem. When I broke out into a rash all over my body and sweats and called because I was scared, I got zero useful information and attitude. You are a number with this group and they like their clinician speak, comments like, "that is outside my scope of practice." I know! That is why I have been calling so you can get me in touch with someone who can answer my medical questions. They just don't do that here. I have not talked with a medical provider from this group since my first visit a week ago. I have only spoken with administrative types who deflect. Your health is too important to deal with these people. read more

I severely injured my foot in August and was misdiagnosed by 2 podiatrists prior to seeing Dr. Dujela at Washington Orthopedic Center. Dr. Dujela took the time to listen to me and scheduled the appropriate imaging tests. Dr. Dujela made a correct diagnosis and worked with me to develop a treatment plan. Because of his knowledge and treatment I was able to make a full recovery from something that if not diagnosed properly could have became a lifelong disorder. In early January 2018 Dr. Michael D. Dujela, DPM did an extensive operation on my left foot. At the time my foot was in really bad shape for my 68 years due to a host of problems from injuries, use and abuse all causing me severe pain while walking, standing or sitting. Extensive foot surgery was necessary. As I write this review I want to say I have had three prior foot surgeries with other doctors, now it has been a full four months since my operation and I have healed well with no pain just minimal discomfort. I am on my feet again experiencing pain free walking for the first time in decades. I want all to know that it was worth while expenditure of time and effort to allow myself to heal go to Physical Therapy and follow the doctors orders. Do no expect this Dr. to care about you, as a person. This is a Get um-in and get um-out Dr. Do not ever speak your mind, question your care, or God forbid, be a Strong Woman who also happens to be PTSD and cannot always "hide it". This is not a "nice" Dr. This Dr. may know what he is doing, as a Dr. but as a Nice Person, he failed miserably. Left, in tears, many times. I had PTSD panic attacks & have documented this very well. He listened to the saga of my long-term knee issues and understood right away how difficult the loss of activity has been. He empathized and seemed to genuinely care. I've been to Olympia Orthapaedic many times over the years for my knee and I have never been treated so well and so respectfully by them. I am extremely thankful and blessed to have happened upon Dr. Dujela. I had originally received a referral for another clinic, but they did not get back in touch (a real problem because I had already been belatedly diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles, and there can be real problems if you do not get them repaired within 4 weeks). My wife was looking for a place that took our insurance, and she found Wa Ortho. I shudder to think how things could have gone for me if we had gone somewhere else. Dr. Dujela is a pioneer in the science of ruptured tendons. He has an aggressive rehabilitation program that gets you back using your legs much earlier before atrophy has shrunk your calf to a meagre shadow. Now, 20 months after a full rupture, I'm preparing to get back into sports, when lots of people who rupture their tendons are just happy to be able to walk normally. read more

I was not at all impressed with Olympia Orthopaedics' way of doing business so I tried a place in Tacoma that kept changing my appointment time because they would get caught in surgery. I was skeptical because it happened a couple times and I thought if things don't go how they planned more often than not, no thanks. Third try was WA Ortho. Staff is very respectful of your time, they don't rush you and explain everything thoroughly. Dr Anderson was great. Answered all my questions without making me feel like I was holding him up. Day of surgery went exactly as they said it would. Each DR and Nurse came into waiting area to tell me their role in the surgery and asked if I had questions, I felt very comfortable. Highly recommend this place. Short drive from Olympia and well worth getting away from the mill and monopoly that exists there. read more

had a small hand injury and was referred here after dealing with Olympia Orthopedics. I got in relatively quick after calling in. my issue was small but was handled as quickly as L&I would allow for. Dr. Birchard has a great attitude and did very well with me even when my attitude went sour with one of his staff. my 5 star rating is based solely on the outcome of the surgery I received there. the scar is minimal and healing quite nicely. the one fly in the ointment was the scheduling of the surgery. I was given a check in time but wasn't told WHEN i'd be going under the knife. I was left sitting in the waiting room for over 4 hours without even so much as a "this is how long it'll be or here's how many people are left in line." when I inquired as to why I got a very poor response from the same staff person that took such poor care of me over the phone. I've also got a knee injury that will cause some premature joint wear. I plan on going back to Dr. Birchard for that work just because I really like the interactions I've had with him. I'll be asking more of the one staff member IF I ever deal with her again. read more

Dr. Slattery replaced my hip, including removal of bone cysts, reshaping of the pelvic cup, and placement of bone grafts in March, 2012. Three years later, I couldn't be happier with the results. Due to my age and the severity of the procedure, it took six months before I could manage stairs without difficulty. I still don't have the muscle strength I used to, but I can walk! I can bend and lift and walk without pain and it is wonderful. read more

Recently, I had endoscopic surgery at the Washington Orthopedic Center. The entire experience was top drawer from beginning to end. First, the staff could not have been nicer. It appears that their mission is to make you feel comfortable while their professionalism gives you complete confidence in them. Second, Dr. Birchard takes the time to answer any and all questions thoroughly. Initially, he meets with you to evaluates your situation. He addresses any concerns and offers options. The day of surgery he stops by to answer any questions you might have then, and you meet again the day the stitches are removed. You never feel you are being rushed, or taking up too much time. He is very professional, and has a charming and relaxed manner. Third, the surgery itself. It has been about three weeks and all is well. I still use steri-strips over the wound, but it is healing quickly. I had put off this surgery for about three years and the numbing was quite severe. The thumb and fingers are about one-third as numb as they were. I am very pleased with this result, and I expect they will be even less numb with time.
