We need to replace the fence on both sides and the back of our property and PSG was recommended to us by a local friend in the real estate business. We got three estimates, and PSG (I mostly dealt with Alex), had not only the best price but also the best terms. Pay when the work is finished. The estimate is the contract, so there were no surprises. They started the job just when they said they would and finished it in a few days. We split the costs with our neighbors and all of us could not be more pleased, not just with the quality of the fence, but the responsiveness of the team that was working on it. Inevitably, there will be some unexpected things that come up, but all it took was a phone call and everything was resolved to our satisfaction immediately. They were always happy to do things the way we wanted it, even if we were uncertain about what we wanted until the last minute. PSG fencing was contracted to put up a fence and gate on my residential property back in October. The men who worked on the fence, were diligent. They came early, but didn't call ahead of time. Since there is a noise ordinance for our neighborhood, they could not start right away, but managed to set up early. The work done on the fence was good. The men were quick and efficient and did a beautiful job. However, about a week and a half later, my mother and I noticed that there was a palm-sized hole in the fence from a knot that came out of our gate. In addition, some of the boards were beginning to split right down the middle. We called Alex at PSG and informed him of the issue but he quickly brushed us off and let us know that the fence was guaranteed for up to three years, and this issue "doesn't need to be fixed right away." After explaining to him that we expected to receive what we paid for, he begrudgingly put us on his crew's calendar for December 3rd. (2 months after the job was initially completed). Alas, we come upon December 3rd, only to be told, there was no certainty that anything could be done within the previously agreed upon time frame. THEN, Alex told my mother that the gate had been fixed, and she needed to go check to see. The fact of the matter is, unless his crew came in the middle of the night and started working without letting anyone know... The gate was NOT fixed. After continually pointing fingers at who in the office is responsible for what, and giving my mother an unnecessary run around, Alex said that we had to talk to a man named Juan to get the problem addressed. After speaking to Juan, an agreement for an appointment for the following day was reached. Overall, working with PSG has been more hassle than it has been worth. Women beware. You may need to re-think partnering with PSG if you are looking to be taken seriously. They're quick to cash your check, but completely awful at returning phone calls, or attempting to address your concerns. read more

We used PSG to replace a fence for a rental, but the fence fell after 6.5 years, which was disappointing. We should've known, with only a 3 year warranty. But they offered a decent price back then, so I called them up to have them give an estimate to re-do the fence again. First guy I talked to was Juan, and he left me hanging on the phone for several minutes without explanation. Another guy, Frank, eventually picked up the phone, and I had to repeat my request to have an estimate done and emailed to me. Frank took down my information, but he ditched me on the phone as well. Juan came back a few minutes later, and I asked if they got my email, but Juan said no. I tried to give my email again, but Juan refused, saying he'll tell me in person. Plus he delayed my appointment time, which made it more inconvenient for my tenant. I said, it's a rental and the drive is long, I won't be there. But Juan said, that's why we'll call you before we come. I insisted I cannot make it, at which point Juan said, you keep talking like that, and I have to go. I started to say something, and he hung up on me! I called back because all I wanted to tell Juan was, if he cannot email me an estimate, then just hand it to my tenant. Juan said, is your tenant paying? I said, no we will pay. Then I started to say, please also give an estimate to my neighbor, who will be sharing the cost. But he hung up on me again before I could finish! My father was with me at the time, and seeing this, he decided to call himself, because he dealt with the owner last time. Juan picked up again, and he hung up on my father as well. My father tried once more to call back, but Juan never picked up and it went to voicemail. Fast forward 6 days to our appointment, and no one showed up. I figured in this time of covid, businesses must be struggling in CA, but I guess PSG must have so much business that they didn't want ours. read more

This is the WORST company DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. Had a fence put in around 3 years ago, about a year after installation the fence dried out so much everything was pulling away and exposing large gaps and wood was warping. The owner Frank came out a few times and informed me that the lumber they used was wet because of the restrictions caused by the Obama administration. He said the repairs would be covered and made an appointment to repair...day of the repair nobody showed...no call. I've called the shop over 30 times , called Frank numerous times and they are avoiding me. When I call now they put me on hold or just hang up , I paid a tremendous amount of money for this fence and now it's falling apart. I've read similar complaints about these guys , this company should not be in business. They rip people off with shoddy craftsmanship and poor quality lumber that will leave your fence a mess in less than three years. read more

We used these guys a few years ago and they did a good job so decided to use them again. What a mistake. They made an estimate appointment for Thursday at !:30. When no one showed up, I called and was told there was no record of us having made an appointment but they could come Friday morning. Frank (the owner) was there promptly at 9:00, in fact, he even called my cell because I was three minutes late. He measured the property and said he would call with the estimate by 3:00. No call. Since I had his cell number, I called him back about 7:00. He answered and told me he would call back as soon as he had finished dinner. No call back. Called again to his cell on Saturday morning and also left message on the office machine. No call back to any of my messages. Today, Thursday, a week after our first appointment was supposed to be, Juan called to tell me he was running early and could he come now. Guess what? Do I really want to deal with a company that can't even return messages and keep commitments? Instead we went with Golden Gate Fencing. They were on time for the estimate, the price was right and the fence was installed the next morning. Skip PSG and use Golden Gate. You will be much happier. read more

I used PSG a number of years ago and absolutely loved their work.... never had a chance to see if their work was still as good. I contacted them for another job - three long sections on two fences with two neighbors, a pretty good size job. My neighbors and I decided to call a few companies for competitive bids and PSG was on my list as one of the better companies. One fence company never called back (won't give the name but they are in Fremont) and another company sent someone out fairly quickly (again, won't give the name but they are in Newark). I wanted to give PSG a chance..... When I called, their estimator Juan was a bit rude but I chalked it up to "something must be going on in his life" and let it go. Made the appointment for the following Wednesday, May 20th. Juan came out and his attitude didn't improve much. He barely acknowledge that I was a customer, walked around the job site (had to basically say "follow me" as he didn't really ask many questions and showed no drive, interested, or initiative...), was non conversational and lacked any interested, and took the rough numbers I gave him from the other bids. I think he measured one fence section. Then he left... Didn't hear from PSG all day Wednesday. Called twice on Thursday and spoke with Alex, who genuinely seemed interested in customer service and who probably one who is keeping some reviews positive. Finally received the quote on Friday in a nondescript email with just the attachment, no personalization, no follow up request, no explanation of the numbers, nothing. Worse, even though he was told that there are two neighbors and I need two "good neighbor" estimates, only one was supplied. Add that one area was on my neighbors property and was to be paid by them only and you can see where confusion set it. I had to decipher the numbers to share with each neighbor... Juan's should have this in the first place. They lost the job and we haven't heard from them since. If you choose to use them, ask for Alex. Juan seems to be the common denominator in many bad reviews, here on Yelp and elsewhere. The fence company based in Newark received our business. The good: We have a fence that looks good and it's mostly what we expected. The bad: Took way too many problems to get this done, including being over budget. See below. We had received a quote, but then decided to wait 6 months before going through with it. 6 months later we couldn't find our original contract # so we tried to have PSG find it. They weren't willing to look for it after numerous calls to them, so they finally came over for another quote, only to say that "we've been here before, we'll find the contract". Throughout the planning process Juan was unresponsive on emails, but later in the process Alex took over and we were communicating again. After the work was completed, the gate was too short compared with the rest of the fence, which had a piano lattice. It took some work but they came back and redid a new fence, however the post was not changed, so it looked bad with the new taller fence. I asked them to come back again to fix that. Here's where my mind was blown. They didn't communicate when they would fix the gate, even after asking multiple times. We then went on vacation for a week and put a pad lock on the gate, which the police say we should do to deter theft and bulglary. When we got back from vacation, our gate was wide open! We thought there was a break in but as I examined it, it was clear PSG had come and changed out the post. They literally unscrewed the bolts and removed the lock so they can gain access, and then because the pad lock was still on the lock, they couldn't lock back the door and just left it open. This was unbelievable. At least tie a rope or something to keep the door closed. I should have received an email or call, telling me that they are coming over to fix the post, or worst case call and tell me what happened. Nothing. This shows that whoever fixed the post, didn't care about the homeowner. When I told this to Alex, he was genuinely surprised, but never came over to see the situation. Another issue that arose and they said they would NOT be liable for is that they put 2 posts on top of 2 sprinklers. Crazy how they say they are not liable for that. We continue to have poor communication with them about fixing one of the posts, where because it was put on top of a sprinkler, once the sprinkler was turned on it lifted the cement up and the post is now loose. Also, they needed to add a small portion of the piano lattice to the new fence side. Both if these issues are still pending and I'm unlikely to get them fixed anytime soon. Lastly, we were verbally given a lower price on the piano lattice per square foot, and I didn't realize this until it was too late and we went with the install. This is my fault not being more careful within the contract, but something to watch out for. read more

Appalling customer service from the estimator. Looking through the reviews now in hindsight, seems like others experienced something similar as well. My husband used PSG fencing a few years ago to replace the fence and gates on both sides of our house (coordinated through our two neighbors), thus he suggested that I consider using them to replace the fence at my rental property in Sunnyvale. I submitted a request for an estimate through their website on May 14, 2015 and didn't receive a response. I called them on May 21 and set up an appointment for today at 11:30am. I told the woman that it was a rental property and that I would be driving there to meet the estimator. I received a phone call from the estimator (Juan) 15 minutes before my appointment time saying that he was already at my property. I told him I was on my way and that the appointment was at 11:30am. He surprised me with his attitude and response saying that he only had a window from 11 to 11:30am as I was never told such a window when I made my appointment. In any case, he said he would be waiting there. When I arrived at 11:32am (two minutes late due to terrible construction traffic near the new Apple headquarters), he was not there. I called Juan and asked where he was, and he responded saying that he left because I was not there at 11:30am. Really???? He knew I was on my way and could not even wait two minutes? I called PSG fencing and spoke to the receptionist who confirmed my appointment time was 11:30am and that there was no 11-11:30am window that Juan was referring to. The receptionist could not understand what was up with Juan either and told me that she spoke to him to clarify the appointment time but he refused to come back. I asked her to send someone else, and she told me that there was no one else (that Juan was the only guy). I called up Juan and told him that his customer service was appalling. He then said he had a 12noon appointment in Menlo Park and could come back after he was done. Really? I'm supposed to wait around while he drives up to Menlo Park for another appointment, finishes that at some unknown time, and drives back down to Sunnyvale? Clearly, there is something screwed up with their scheduling if they schedule an 11:30am appointment in Sunnyvale and a 12noon appointment in Menlo Park--that's just irresponsible and is disrespectful of their customer's time because it would be impossible to meet both commitments. read more

This company also goes by the name Soares Lumber which is who was recommended to me by a friend. It seems that because they are a lumber company they are able to quote lower prices than others on their fence work. We had three quotes for our job and decided to go with PSG/Soares. There was a quite a long wait for them to start the work (i guess they do work in a pretty wide area so they are quote busy) but once they did, they stuck to the schedule and got it done on time for the quoted price. When they had questions, they took the time to consult with me. They were professional throughout and did a really nice job. The fence looks great and seems really well-built! The only downsides were: 1) they didn't dig out the old posts/concrete so at the corners, they ended up placing their posts slightly to the side, with the result being a slightly angled fence at the ends and one that doesn't quite match the property line there. 2) their truck leaks oil, quite a lot actually, and now we have an oil puddle in our driveway. 3) seemed like they were winging it on the gate/door design... you would think they would have done this so many times they could just bring a few photos to share and you could pick one. In all, i would use them again and recommend them to a friend as well. (I would give them 4.5 stars if yelp would let me.) Hopefully they'll read this review and take the time to improve on those couple of issues so others can give them 5 star reviews. read more

I had made an appointment and confirmed twice, once the week before and also the week of the appointment since I had explained to them that I had moved and was going to be travelling back in order to make this appointment. On the day of the appointment, they never showed up. I called an hour after the appointment was scheduled and they indicated that they showed no record of an appointment but would call me back to reschedule. When they didn't call back, I once again reached out to them and they kept saying they would call me back. This happened several times. The only reason they got two stars was that they had done some other work in the past where I would have given them three stars due to delays getting the earlier work completed on time and other issues including refusing to provide invoicing required for tax purposes. Definitely wouldn't have been my first choice for a contractor, but my neighbor had insisted on using this contractor since they had provided the lowest quote, even though they didn't fix the problems with the fence line. You definitely get what you pay for and selecting a contractor solely on price is a bad decision. I would be very careful dealing with this contractor. read more

If you want a good quality redwood fence, done well, quickly, and cheaply, call these guys. They are also a lumber yard, so you basically get the redwood at a good price and the labor for free. The fence around my property was falling over.... so being a handy guy, I went off bought the necessary redwood (Con-Heart, never Con-Common) and replaced the areas around the street. But I did not want to mess with the neighbors, especially since they would be paying for half the cost.... so I called up PSG. I just pointed to the fence that I had built and asked them to replicate it for me. They did a great job--so much so that I think a number of our neighbors hired them to do other things, like build a deck and more fences. Sadly for me, they charged exactly the same amount per foot that I paid for the lumber alone... making me feel quite foolish. Even worse, they did hundreds of feet of fencing in 3 days, where it took me a week to do 40 ft. Lesson learned!!! (PS: I told a realtor friend of mine about these guys and she has used them on multiple jobs, including her own house... She thanks me everytime she calls them... but alas, no commission yet :-) read more

If this is the same company p.s.g. Inc then I was appalled at their lack of respect for other people's property. The fence went up and they trampled and destroyed my plants and flower area. Very rude disrespectful and messy with no consideration for my property. Was only concerned about getting fence up and anything in the way gets smashed and destroyed!! There was no notification of fence work being done to the surrounding neighbors with dogs and they just tore down the old fence and left it so neighbors with dogs had no idea their dogs were running loose in the neighborhood because there was no communication. I talked with several local fence companies, but also had seen a recent fence in Palo Alto that had been done by PSG Fencing. I called received bids on the fence job (about 100 lineal feet of redwood plank fencing) from three fencing companies. Of the three PSG was the most prompt in returning my initial call, arriving at the scheduled appointment for the estimate (thanks Juan!) and were also very timely with returning what turned out to be the most competitive quote for the work. They fully and accurately disclose the scope of the work that was to be covered in their work, including the dimensional and quality aspects of the rails, posts and fence planking. Their workers were on time, efficient and courteous. I would highly recommend this company for anyone thinking of replacing a fence or gate. read more

Competitive fence bids, quality lumber promised -- then watch the delivery truck roll up with inferior seconds -- instead of your anticipated (and written in bid) redwood - you get boards with 3/4 white pine and bit of redwood -- total inferior second rate stuff. Next, they'll call in your refusal and tell you that you need to pay for upgrade you expected in first place - good old bait and switch. Frank Soars is the owner of both PSG Fencing and PSG Lumbar. The inferior product, lumber, comes from their yard. Recommend not using this company - very dishonest, deceptive practices that the owner will argue with you about on phone and refuse to correct improper or inadequate installation problems too, yet he has no problem making harrassing phone calls to collect when you insist they fix problems before they get paid. In our case, Frank personally refused to correct the problem and insisted it was fixed. We took pictures -- never happened. Avoid like the plague. read more

This company installed a fence and did a decent job on the fence itself, howerver, they broke my sprinkler line and proceeded to keep digging breaking 5 more lines. They never notified me of the problem and tried patching the 6 areas where they broke the line, the repairs failed and a week later my neighbor calls to say his yard is flooded. I had my Gardner repair the line properly and it cost me $525.I called the owner of PSG fencing Juan Guzman and he said it wasn't his fault and would not even discuss some sort of compromise on the cost to me of repairing the sprinklers he broke. I repeated our conversation from the day before that they were fitting me in because they had an appointment at 10:00am in Morgan Hill. You would have thought I was talking to someone from Mars. According to him, the conversation never happened. I didn't have an appointment and neither did the poor guy in Morgan Hill. They did a fence for me and the fence itself was ok, but the heighth was not. I asked them to make it the same height as our neighbors but they made it 7 inches taller. I called them everyday for 10 days and faxed them a 1 page complaint to fix the fence. They never called me back. As one last effort, after they called me twice to collect their money I told them that I had written the Board of Contractors a complaint for their incomplete job and lack of response and effort to resolve the issue. I first heard of PSG a few years ago when my mother in law had them install a new gate to keep her dog from escaping her yard. I felt they did an excellent job, the gate looked great and the workers were careful to avoid underground utility lines. We hired them again to replace about 30 feet of fence in her backyard before listing her house for sale in 2012. This year we hired them to replace our patio overhang and it turned out great! We also had them replace our gate at the same time. We did have to call them out to adjust the gate as it had weathered and was sticking, but they came right out and took care of it promptly! Last month my neighbor told me he wanted to get a new fence between our properties, He got the bids and hired PSG - He said they were the cheapest. And you get what you pay for. I told my neighbor I would split the bill with him but that with a new fence, I needed a new gate. My neighbor called PSG and was told that would be another $200.00 So when I was ready to leave my house for an extended period, I left a check with my neighbor for my 1/2 plus the gate. When I got back, weeks later, NO GATE. I have made 4 phone calls, never got a call back, and now they are just flat out lying to me. They win, in that I will get my money back from my neighbor and find someone else to build a gate. In the mean time, they put my old gate back on with 2 screws, so the first time someone tried to open it, it fell off. ( I have dogs and I live on a busy street. ) I found their attitude to be horrible, They tell you one thing but you get a different story the next time you call. I would have read the reviews on Yelp before ever hiring them. I am going to advise my neighbor to do the same next time he needs some work. STAY AWAY from these liars and cheats ...Yes they still have my money, and that is my neighbor's problem now because he has to pay me back, and collect the money himself. We were very happy at first, but now less than 5 years later the 4x6 posted fence has two failing posts and PSG refuses to provide an estimate for repair...yes, we are willing to pay to repair their work, but they won't come to San Jose anymore! We had to remind them to crown the concrete at the posts during installation, suggesting the failing posts are a result of their poor installation.
