Great dining experience! Very lovely vibe here. There's a long bar and the dining area is very spacious with 3 sections that help to split up the noise. Food was good, nothing to write home about, but prices were definitely competitive and portion sizes were perfect. They have a great drink and dessert selection. Service was prompt and the food came out fast! Overall, I'd recommend.

    Duck confit burger over greens

During Family Weekend, we headed to Protocol for dinner. Our son order the smash burger which was devoured quickly. We also had the duck confit burger over lettuce, the acorn squash soup, the fall tagine (not pictured), and the sweet corn arepas. The dishes are arranged in order of how much I enjoyed them -- The duck really was the stand out as it wasnt greasy as duck can sometimes be -- but delightfully flavorful. My husband ordered the Passionate Presbyterian because of the name alone! The server was pleasant too despite the place being quite busy on a Friday evening.

The restaurant is very welcoming with so many plants throughout the restaurant. There's plenty of street parking and it's in a busy area. Seat yourself and the staff will greet you with a menu. It did take a while to get someone's attention. The fried chicken sandwich comes with chips. Order a side of fries, they are really good! The chicken is different than other places, I can't quite explain it. I think it's extra crispy while not being overcooked. This is a good place with a relaxing atmosphere.

12 Oct 2025: 1) crispy chicken sandwich 2) smash burger 3) hand cut fries 4) classic Caesar salad. Hand cut fries is not crispy. Caesar salad is good.

    Smash burger amazing-ness!!

OK - so I do believe their Smash Burger is the best hamburger I have ever had in my life. It's just bursting with flavor. Very impressed. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beer selection decent but not amazing. Other food and sides were all a 9 or 10. Cocktail selection so so but they are willing to go off menu for drinks. Overall high marks in terms of being a great bar and restaurant in the area. The bar itself is also LOOONG and pretty cool. Nice job!

The food was decently priced and tasty, but it was a bit loud and dark where we were sitting. Overall, a nice place to have a meal and a drink, our servers were very attentive.

Great vibe and food with good service. I'll definitely be going back to try their regular menu as my family and I went for a Sunday brunch.

Our table was as requested and a wonderful familiar server took excellent care of us. We ordered the Restaurant Week menu and added a bottle of wine and two salads. Our cold asparagus soup was delicious. Unfortunately, the entree was poorly prepared. The fish was badly overcooked, and the vegetables were burnt. When our server came by to ask how everything was, we answered honestly that the fish was very dry. We added that we had had much better fish dishes there before but it was fine. Our server went to his manager to share our answer to his question of how everything was. The manager came to our table and said "I understand that there is a problem here". We showed him our plates so he could see for himself. He asked if we wanted the kitchen to redo our entree and we said no. When we were presented with the bill our server apologized because his manager said there would be no adjustment. We never requested an adjustment! We never asked to speak with a manager! My wife and I are not con artists looking to get freebees. We simply gave an honest answer to the question asked of us. If we had a problem that needed to be corrected we would have made a request to do so. The fish was very dry and not very enjoyable. When asked if we wanted a replacement we said no thank you. We never asked for anything. We chalked this up to a less than stellar meal at a restaurant where we had enjoyed stellar meals in the past. It is most insulting to be treated like hustlers looking for something for free.

This time we ordered a Large Blanco pizza which was great because there was plenty to take home for lunches throughout the week. I had the Tex-Mex burger for the first time. It came with a choice of house-made black bean burger, Impossible patty or Beyond patty. I chose the Beyond and I'm really happy I did because it was so good. Normally I would suggest a Cubano sandwich but they were out chick'n and waffles is great too. But today the burger really hit the spot. I had my choice of fresh greens or roasted potatoes which was a no-brainer. These potatoes are the best. I ordered a second order for my Mom to take home. She loves them. Imagine biting into a firm roasted potato skin with a velvety buttery mashed potato inside. Yeah, it's that kind of good! Today was a bonus, I accumulated enough points for a free small pizza of my choice! Heck yeah, that heats up nicely back home for lunches at work during the week. We might have loaded up on desserts... cookies, chocolate mousse, cupcakes, rice pudding, pastries. Oh yes, it's dangerous! There is seating inside and outside in nicer weather. The ordering process was confusing. It asked you to omit things that you didn't want on the sandwich and it made it seem like the sandwich would include lots of different ingredients. Actually, it didn't include very many ingredients at all. If you wanted more ingredients like Cheese and mayonnaise and cucumbers and carrots for example, you had to pay extra for those ingredients. I got the half sandwich and it was pretty modest portion. It was enough but only just. I also ordered chips, a drink and a cookie. My lunch was over $20. I believe the total cost was $23. The drink alone was over three dollars. This is a very expensive place to get lunch. This was a one and done for me. I will not be returning to the Black Sheep.
