Proto pipe makes a very good handmade product made for smoking marijuana. They have as far as I know three models the original the rocket and yet another model. They're about $89 and each one is handmade. Phil is the owner and has been in business for over 50 years I've learned about Proto pipe about 40 years ago and my friend that went to Humboldt State has been buying The original Proto pipe for about 45 years. Phil takes pride and his product and I don't think it's stated anywhere but if your pipe is stuck and needs cleaning you stop by the shop he'll put it in the tank take it apart get all the tar out of it clean it up and give it back to you at no charge at least that's how it was many years ago and it's probably the same now. I just bought the rocket it was $89 and change plus pay I think a $15 shipping fee it might've been seven dollars but it doesn't matter. What matters is make sure you buy your Proto pipe from Phill. Candy handles all of the orders and she can tell you when to expect your pipe due within a day at least that was a situation with me I just bought a pipe two weeks ago it was the rocket is much easier to clean than the original but don't fool yourself by buying a pipe from Amazon or anyone else they just don't fit they're not machined handmade pipes annual have a bad experience with that pipe if it's not bought from Proto pipe the original makers because these pipes are machine and they give you seemingly lifetime care and maintenance on your pipe I can't say that for sure but they've been nice with me. You can only get the original Proto pipes from the store in central California do not buy them from anywhere else or you will be very very disappointed I've seen some from Amazon for $39 and I've seen some in head shops for five dollars because they're just trying to get rid of them the parts don't really fit well and is very frustrating. I've talked with Phil and Candy several times I've never met them in person but they're very good people. I can tell they do what they say they're going to do and you won't have any trouble with them just get on the phone and call Phil and tell them what you want you can use your credit card to place your order and you will get a very nice package in the mail and candy will tell you about when the Proto pipe will arrive. Do not buy from anywhere else I can't state that enough this is the only place in the world you can get the original Proto pipe, the rocket pipe, and one other pipe I suggest a rocket pipe because it's much easier to clean than the original Proto pipe. read more

It's impossible to get a proto from an outside seller or on the internet -- we'll have to go directly to the owner/partner, it seems. Fortunately, Willits is a place we occasionally drive past. I wish they'd chain the poker to the pipe or something, because we spend an occasional afternoon looking for the poker. I guess that kind of adds to the specific allure of the pipe, eh? read more

An update... the mendo arrived today and as promised it's fabulous. To the skeptics, this is a beautifully machined piece of art. A few days ago I had the opportunity to speak to the owner on the phone. Wonderful conversation and a person that is truly dedicated to his art. And much to my surprise he told me the Proto will make a resurgence! A few areas he has to take care of, but will have the new "old" model back on the market! I only give them a 3 star because these guys used to be on their A game. I've searched numerous websites where they are supposed to sell their famous proto pipe, to no avail. I've owned many pipes in the past and would like another but nobody has any in stock.When I contact the website they all say the same, Proto hasn't sent us any pipes. Not sure whats going on. The only sites that have them are the ones that sell them for the most expensive prices. Make no mistake, I love these pipes and I guess that's why I'm frustrated. There's no direct website and the phone just keeps ringing. It seems like theres no love for the customer. I would like to see them put a little more effort in their company. After all, these guys are classics and theresonly one true Proto Pipe. read more

Its the same great pipe as it was in the 1980's. You have to contact Proto Pipe direct to order a new pipe these days, but their Customer Service is great and its worth the hassle of having to contact them directly to purchase. read more

This thing lasts for year, no need of a screen. Great design, the only problem is where do you get them? Trying to replace my third.
