I decided to take a walk on the San Diego Creek Bicycle Path on Memorial Day Monday at around 6am to kill time before I had to go to LAX to fly home. The trail was very nice and scenic. Most importantly, it wasn't crowded. Just me and the nature surrounding it. It was perfect since it was early in the morning and it was a holiday weekend too. With that said, I laced up my shoes and headed out into the path, which was basically all concrete paved. I spent about an hour and a half and probably went about 2 miles round trip. I didn't have that much time to spend out on the trail that morning but made the most from it. For the most part though, the morning was great that I was out on the trail and saw some people out that morning. I waved at them but some didn't wave back. Probably because they were in the zone getting in those miles! I had to make some landmark references since I'm not from the area. Basic rule was re-trace your steps and back track the way you came, which is what I did. The beautiful path was not used as a trash receptacle, which was great. And more importantly, I didn't see any individuals that looked like migrants or disheveled homeless persons. It's usually unfortunate to see them in our community and or hiding from authority in our natural parks and on bike paths. Luckily for me, I didn't see that during my walk along this stretch of the San Diego Creek trail. It's something to do while getting in some exercise for sure.
The overall experience here on the San Diego Creek Bicycle Path was fun and actually really enjoyable for me. Just need to tell yourself, or in my case, to get out there and enjoy the experience while killing some time instead of lounging around the hotel room like a bum. I particularly liked the random metal trash cans along the open paths. I also liked the causeway that extended over the canal that I walked thru and under the arch. It was nice to not have anyone bother me while walking along here around 7am on a Monday morning in Irvine. And so, if you enjoy waking or running on community assigned trail heads that may or may not be paved and maintained by the city of Irvine, consider coming to the San Diego creek trail. I'm not sure how long that trail is, but there is a opening next to the Sonesta simply suites hotel - Irvine where I was staying on memorial day weekend, 2023. For the most part, though, I enjoyed myself here before having to head on home. It was nice that it wasn't any people around, except for the usual runner, Walker, cyclists this early in the morning versus random people on any given day. Nature's calling and I answered that morning. Hope you will too, if you're in the area.
The San Diego Creek Bicycle Path is located in Irvine, California. At least the small part of it I was on is in Irvine. Like many community bike paths and walkways, access to this any many others nationwide are free. Void of admission, which is awesome! As far as parking goes, your best bet would be to find local street parking in the area and be okay with that. If you are familiar with southern California's mazes of public transportation, consider the ones you'd need to get here to Irvine. Best thing to do is to come here early or late enough to beat the heat, but be safe while doing so. The San Diego Creek Bicycle Path is as lovely as it is scenic. Definitely well worth your time to experience and explore here whenever you have the chance to. Gorgeous and quite clean. Glad there wasn't any homeless individuals along the trail when I was there. It really takes away from the experience when you got people there like that. It's the sign of the times, I guess. With that said, consider the San Diego Creek Bicycle Path as your means of an #activelife here in Irvine and Southern California. Whether you're running, walking, or cycling, or just getting from point A to B along the trail, it just may be the best time you may have outside without a car.
5.0 stars for the overall experience.
